Vegan company moves to plastic free

Oumph! is phasing out plastic in preference for recyclable cardboard packaging. The multi award-winning Swedish plant-based food producer is rolling out the new cardboard packaging into all markets where Oumph! is sold, starting with the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands.

“Our food is a progressive choice and we wanted the packaging to match that. With our new recyclable packaging the aim is to further further limit our environmental impact”, says Linda Arnason, Global Brand Manager at Oumph! which is one of the LIVEKINDLY Collective’s brands.

Arnason, who is leading Oumph!’s packaging project continues:

“There are certain challenges in creating a more sustainable packaging for frozen food, and we are pleased to announce that we’ve found a solution with recyclable cardboard packaging. Not only is it better for the environment, but we’re also receiving positive feedback from retailers because the packaging is easy to stack, and requires less freezer space.”

The new Oumph! packaging is now available in the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands, and will be rolled out in Sweden, the Nordic countries, Germany, Ireland and South Africa this spring.

The new packaging is designed to match Oumph!’s bold brand attitude, and it has received good feedback from consumers and retailers alike.

“Oumph! has an edge as a brand and we want that to be reflected in the packaging. We believe the new design will stand out in the supermarket freezers for consumers to easily find their favourite Oumph! product”, comments Anders ‘Ankan’ Linden, Co-founder, Corporate Chef and Head of Innovation at Oumph!

“With several new product launches planned for this year, the new cardboard packaging plays an important part as we continue to develop tasty, appealing and innovative plant-based food products.”

New Oumph! products on the way including sausages!

Oumph! is launching two new fabulous products into Swedish supermarkets from March 16, 2020 with a UK and Ireland launch taking place later in the year.

The Oumph! Banger and Oumph! Smoky Bits are about to hit the shelves and they are highly anticipated. Especially by me!

“Our aim is that The Oumph! Banger and Oumph! Smoky Bits will raise the bar for the plant-based category in Sweden”, says Victoria Norviit, Brand and Category Manager at Oumph! and Food for Progress.

“The Oumph! Banger is a unique plant-based sausage for the next generation of products. The Oumph! Banger has been created combining traditional sausage making, craftsmanship and innovation with state of the art techniques”.

The Oumph! Banger is made from soya beans. It has a smokiness which means it works well as a hotdog, or in pasta dishes and stews. The sausage casing is made from algae and has the crisp bite you’d expect from a good sausage casing.

The Oumph! Banger is suitable for frying, cooking in the oven, barbecuing or grilling on an open fire.

Oumph! Smoky Bits is a wheat based product which is suitable to fry and serve in plant-based carbonara dishes, pies, omelettes and range of other dishes.

“Oumph! Smoky Bits is a versatile product for anyone who’s been looking for a really good plant-based alternative to bacon or ham, and it’s works in a range of classic dishes, such as pasta, or for other breakfast, lunch, dinner and party food occasions”, says Hans Mathiason, Head of Taste and Texture at Oumph! and Food for Progress.

The Oumph! Banger and Smoky Bits are sold frozen, and are available in Swedish supermarket chains ICA and City Gross from the week commencing March 16, 2020.

New seitan slices and pieces in the UK

Hey, friends.

Do you remember the new seitan company out of the UK called Love Seitan?

Love Seitan popped up at a few of my markets last year and have been steadily building their business ever since. They enjoyed an investment from VBites to help them with their expansion and now they have released a big range of seitan deli slices and pieces.

Check them out below.

In addition to the slices and pieces, Love Seitan have their large seitan blocks perfect for roast dinners.

The company is starting to roll out these products into independent food stores around the UK, but in the meantime you can order for home delivery from their website.

Vegan meat in Tesco

Superstar vegan meat brand Oumph from Sweden has finally secured a huge retail deal in the UK and us plant-eaters are celebrating.

You’ll need to check back here later this week for finer details but what I know for the moment is that Oumph will be available in 400 Tesco stores around the UK.

This is gigantic news.

This is one of the finest vegan meat products on the market.

I was fortunate to attend the UK launch last year and was blown away by the versatile nature of the food.

Vegan BBQ pack for summer

One of the biggest and most deserved success stories in the vegan business world recently has been Sgaia Vegan Meats.

As I reported a few days ago, this Scotland-based enterprise just secured a coveted listing with Whole Foods Market stores and this meteoric success has all happened in a matter of a few short years.

I’ve popped onto the blog today not to repeat myself, but rather to tell you about a superb summer BBQ pack Sgaia has available to order from their website.

You will all want one of these packs.

The BBQ Bumper Pack has everything you need for your next grilling session. It comes with 4 Aromatico Burgers, 2 packs of Streaky Rashers, 2 Smoked Steaks and, while supplies last, they’re throwing in a free pot of their signature mayo.

Check out the burgers being cooked!

Now available to mainland UK

Here are two pieces of HUGE news in one blog post.

Part one:

Adored vegan meat company Moodley Manor is now shipping to mainland UK customers. Their sausages, bacon and burgers have been firm favourites in Ireland (where they are made) and Northern Ireland for a while, but now the rest of us can enjoy the taste loved by so many.

Click here to visit the website and place an order for delivery.

News part two:

In an FGV exclusive, Moodley Manor is heading to London to trade at my very first Vegan Christmas Market.

Ais and Gav will be packing up the van and heading across the water to delight crowds on Saturday December 17, 2016. Market shoppers will be able to buy packs of bacon, sausages and burgers, as well as the lauded Moodley roast that by all accounts is massive and delicious.

Bring a shopping bag because you are going to want to stock up in a serious way.

I’m am absolutely stoked to have Moodley Manor at my event. I will be buying two of everything. And I’m even happier to know that anyone in the UK not able to make it along to the Vegan Christmas Market in London will be able to order their own goodies online.

And just a extra sliver of exciting news, Moodley Manor will also be selling their famed garlic mayo at my event and online. I love that the jar claims it is perfect with chips! I will be putting that to the test.

Best in the world

I have already posted and shared my thoughts all over social media about Sgaia and how this Scotland-based food company is truly a world leader.

I think it’s safe to say they are one of the finest vegan brands on the planet. Their products are flawless.

But even my unquestioning love for the vegan meat makers couldn’t prepare me for the outrageous and spectacular vision you are about to witness.

Have you ever seen anything so spectacular?

This Cheeze + Mheat Charcuterie Board features Herbed Roast, Späck, Karma Ham, Gorgonzola Dolcelatte, Emmenthal and Brie. There is also a medjoul date, a couple of sweet pickled onions and charcoal crackers. There is even a vegan hard boiled egg!

I’m speechless.

This Earth-shattering cheese and meat board is being sold exclusively from the Sgaia stand at this weekend’s huge VegfestUK London. They are at stall number CG6.

You need to follow Sgaia on Instagram and order food from them online.

Get all the Vegfest details here.

Extra note: I strongly suggest getting to the show as early as you can for these boards. I predict they will sell out in about an hour. It is going to be MAYHEM!

Vegan meat night

London, are you ready?

This Friday night is the night you go to Black Cat cafe in Hackney. No excuses.

Wanna know why?

Javier Suarez, a South American chef based in London, has spent the last decade traveling around the globe due to his activity as a musician. He has explored vegan food options across the whole world. Inacio Gomez, head chef at Black Cat Hackney, invited Javier to take over Fridays at the cafe kitchen. Together they developed the idea of the Artisan Vegan ‘Meats’ Supper Night.

The vegan meats night is launching from 5pm this Friday (March 20, 2015). Food will be served until 10pm and the regular low Black Cat prices will be in place.

The menu sounds stunning. Check it out on the poster below.
