Vegan DJ alert

I am just 24 hours out from opening the doors for my second annual New Year’s Eve party.

Earlier this week, all 70 tickets for the vegan buffet dinner starting at 6:30pm sold out completely. I have been in touch with Louise and Frank of host venue Kabaret and we have sorted a few extra spaces for the meal, so book here for one of the last dinner spots. The dinner ticket also gets you access to the disco starting at 10pm.

Which brings me to this news.

Check out the line up of DJs set to keep the compassionate crowd dancing tomorrow night after 10pm until late.

Slaughter-free dairy?

OK. I think this one is a no brainer, but here goes anyway.

I don’t think you should support slaughter-free dairy. I think people should stop taking milk from cows and only consume plant-derived milks.

What prompts this statement?

There is currently an IndieGoGo campaign raising funds for a ‘no slaughter’ dairy farm in the UK called The Ahimsa Dairy Foundation.

Coconut cheese

My brother-in-law Ben sent me the following photo of a brand new cheese alternative he spotted in his local grocery store.

NYE menu

As you know (due to my relentless promotion), I am hosting a huge 100% vegan New Year’s Eve party this Wednesday in collaboration with Kabaret in Wood Green.

Some reasons why you might want to be there? Massive vegan buffet dinner, late night disco with rotating DJs and all night transport to nearby Turnpike Lane Underground Station thanks to Transport For London.

Yorkshire puddings

Growing up in Australia, I never was faced with the opportunity to eat a Yorkshire pudding. I only heard about Yorkshire puddings when I first came to the UK in 1998. I was so confused. They are called puddings but you smother them with gravy?

Since transitioning to vegan-only eating in 1999, Yorkshire puddings haven’t even been an option for me as all the brands I see in supermarkets contain animal products. A few days ago, I asked Josh if he knew how to make a vegan version. He said no but he was willing to give it an attempt.

Below is the photographic proof of Josh’s attempt, plus the recipe he made up on the spot in case you want to try and recreate in your own kitchen. Warning: this recipe has only been used once so it could deliver different results depending on your equipment.

Lots of ice cream

It has been a bit quiet on the Vegan Ice Cream Wars front. Not much to report back from the trenches.

Quiet, that is, until I stumbled into Waitrose in White City Westfield today.

When you shop in a mainstream grocery store in the UK, you usually find just one brand of vegan ice cream (or two if you are fortunate). My experiences as a vegan consumer have left me disappointed by the freezer section of most supermarkets.

This is what makes the ice cream freezer at the White City Waitrose so impressive.

I didn’t see one brand. Or two. Or three. I saw four brands of vegan ice cream or frozen desserts. This sighting was also impressive as each brand featured had at least two flavours available.

Check it out below.

(After the pics, I’ll let you know which one came home with me. Can you guess?)

Vegan cookies

I love vegan cookies but it is surprisingly difficult to get a decent version. Yes, I can make special trips to Cookies & Scream or Ms. Cupcake for the good stuff, but I don’t always feel like traveling halfway across the capital for a choc chip cookie.

Thankfully, I now have the option of making the cookies come to me.

Get stuffed

Apparently it is the season for stuffing, so why not make your choice for stuffing a compassionate one.

I was in Sainsbury’s earlier tonight and their Taste the Difference stuffing range caught my eye, especially as each flavour is priced at just £1 for a limited time.

Out of the five varieties on offer, four are labelled as suitable for vegans. Check the range out below.
