London’s first ever vegan bakery turned 7

If you think eating vegan food in London is a relatively new phenomenon that has found popularity over the past two years, you clearly haven’t done your reading.

There have been food providers working hard to showcase plant-based cuisine for a very long time, with one of these businesses recently celebrating a 7th birthday that completely passed me by.

Ms. Cupcake threw open its doors WAY BACK in April 2011, meaning London’s first ever vegan bakery turned seven years old earlier this year.

That is an incredible achievement for any food business and even more impressive for a vegan business that was paving the way for many others to follow. Mellissa Morgan and her Ms. Cupcake brand have become globally recognised and the store front is still there on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton for you to visit 7-days a week.

I am sharing some recent food photos from the bakery with you below, but let’s also get some important links listed on here.

Click here to see the exact location of the bakery thanks to Google Maps.

Follow Ms. Cupcake on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Find out about ordering bespoke cakes via the bakery’s website.

Order your own copy of the Ms. Cupcake recipe book and get a free Nanaimo bar recipe from the book online here. You can even step back in time to see my blog post from that grand opening day over 7 years ago!

Here is a super quick post to say thank you to south London cafe, Cupcakes & Shhht.

The Elephant and Castle cafe hosted an intimate get-together today to celebrate the launch of my book. It was a lot of fun chatting and getting a chance to say hello to a few friends and news faces, but the crowning glory of the evening was the cupcake selection.

The gorgeous vanilla and coconut cupcakes had mini edible front covers of my book on top of the frosting.

Check it out!

Please take a moment to follow Cupcakes & Shhht on Instagram so you can keep updated on their latest news, including an upcoming pop-up in Old Street!

You can join me at one of the book events coming up this week in London and Coventry. See all the dates and events online here.

If you would like a copy of my book, you can order online here.

Vegan cakes for LGBT charity

Pride news from superstar vegan bakery, Ms Cupcake.

In the past we have supported larger LGBT rights organisations and charities for Pride, but this year we wanted to help a smaller project in the hope that our donations could make a bigger difference – as well as giving the project some exposure so people could see the great work that was happening there.

This year the bakery is supporting Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre which is based in London – a registered non-profit organisation.

Who are Mosaic then?

“Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre is a London-based registered non-profit organisation, which is specifically designed for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) people, as well of those who are questioning their sexuality and/or gender identity, aged thirteen to nineteen. We have three central aims – to support, educate, and inspire our young person.”

To help the charity, Ms Cupcake has created a special, one-off cupcake that they will sell across the whole of Pride festival at their Brixton shop (they are available to buy now). Proceeds from each cupcake will be donated to Mosaic.

The cupcake is a Red Velvet and Vanilla sponge mix, with rainbow coloured icing swirl, rolled in multi-coloured sprinkles, with glitter sprinkled on top.

Special offer on vegan cake

I love when a new season rolls around, not least because of all the new flavours and treats from superstar vegan bakery Ms Cupcake.

The summer menu from Ms Cupcake involves a brand new fruit flapjack and a S’mores cupcake. I’m drooling.

Check these out.

They seem to be something of which I could make short work. That means I would eat them very quickly and decidedly.

I want to show you some of the other treats coming up as part of the Ms Cupcake summer menu, but before we get to that let me tell you about a special offer from the bakery.

To celebrate their new menu, they are offering 20% discount on postal orders of bakery items for the whole of June! Use code ‘Indulgence’ at the Shopify checkout to receive the savings. Click here to shop.

Cupcakes can be delivered around London while all the bakery items such as slices can be sent UK wide.

Fall-ing for cupcakes

A change in season means a change in cupcake flavours at Ms. Cupcake in Brixton.

I spotted this gorgeous autumnal flavour during a recent visit.

Other flavours for the cooler weather include Lemon Matcha, Speculoos, Black Bottom (with cream cheese baked in!), Apple Crumble Custard and finally, Blackberry.

How GORGEOUS do all of those sound?

Catch the special seasonal varieties until November in store and visit the Ms Cucpake stand at VegfestUK London on October 10 and 11, 2015.

BREAKING NEWS: Ms. Cupcake

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has put vegan sweets on the London food map quite like Mellissa Morgan. Mellissa’s Ms. Cupcake brand is known and loved by people all over the capital, while her recipe collection has sold by the pallet load to devoted fans.

Ms. Cupcake is a vegan brand that has come an impressive distance in a short time, but a booming Brixton bakery and plans for a follow up book do not signal anywhere close to the end of the story.

Ms. Cupcake and Mellissa Morgan have some big news to share.

Cake on the rise

Imagine my reaction when an invitation came through to visit a vegan cupcake factory. I was like a larger version of that dancing baby that was a viral sensation a few years back, except a bit camper.

One of the most-loved cake companies in London, Trina’s Delicacies, asked me to drop in on their production premises south of the river to see how they go about creating some of the loveliest vegan cupcakes on the planet.

When you love vegan cake as much as I do, it can be a little overwhelming to find yourself in the centre of a commercial kitchen dedicated to baking huge quantities of the stuff. Trina (along with her friendly assistant Andy) made sure I stayed focussed by talking me through how each cupcake is lovingly handcrafted, where they can be purchased and what the plans are for the future.
