Vegan band has new EP & it’s FABULOUS

If you hang around my blog with any regularity, you will instantly recognise Colour Me Wednesday.

Colour Me Wednesday create some of the most irresistible music you will hear right now and they put on an absolutely killer live show. If you were fortunate enough to be at the final night of my Vegan Roadshow last summer, you will know exactly why I sing the praises of this band. They raised the roof.

Now that you know you should be paying attention to this band, here is some homework for you:

Get over to Upset Magazine by clicking here to listen to the brand new Colour Me Wednesday EP. The website also has a fab interview with Jennifer and Harriet from the band in which Harriet boldly states, “Go vegan. It seriously rules and I’m in permanent food heaven.”

Homework part 2?

Get along to one of these upcoming Colour Me Wednesday live shows. All the dates contain links with details, so there is no saying that FGV didn’t give you enough info. Support live music made and performed by vegans.

MARCH

APRIL
01 Wharf Chambers, Leeds
02 Opium, Edinburgh
03 Fulford Arms, York
04 Retro Bar, Manchester
05 DIY Space for London, London
08 Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Brighton

Homework the 3rd:

Get over to the Colour Me Wednesday Facebook page to like it and the Twitter page for a spot of following.

Homework part 4 (I used to be a school teacher):

Go to the Colour Me Wednesday Bandcamp page right now to order the new EP, Anyone and Everyone, and to listen to some of their older tracks.

Extra note:

I love Colour Me Wednesday so thoroughly, I even asked the band if I could use one of their tracks as the theme song for the cooking videos I make with my friend Julio. There is nothing as cool as having a song about being vegan that is written and performed by a kick ass vegan band as the theme song to a series of vegan Mexican cooking videos.

More vegan food in Amsterdam

Post by Joe:

My Amsterdam odyssey continues, bringing us to the charming Vegabond. Very centrally located, the café is not far from the popular Anne Frank museum.

We went here for a late breakfast one afternoon and were pleased to find a tofu scramble on the menu (nearly always a good option!) which came with delicious slices of avocado and spinach leaves on top. The ‘El Jefe’ hot sauces on the table livened things up nicely.

Vegabond isn’t just a café. It’s also got a decent selection of vegan groceries, including chilled and frozen foods and a wide range of sweets (we stocked up on all the new Nakd flavours!).

If you want more information about Vegabond, visit their website.

Vegan dog recipe book

My Instagram feed gets a lot of love and action, but I was surprised by the amount of comments that quickly piled up under a photo I posted of a vegan recipe book for dogs.

vegan dogs

The Simple Little Vegan Dog Book by Michelle A. Rivera was published in 2009 but it only came to my attention a few days ago when I stumbled across it in a vegan café in Mexico City.

I was fascinated by the idea that someone had written a vegan recipe book just for dogs, so I popped over to Amazon to find out a little bit more info about the book.

This is the product description:

Here is all the information needed so our friendly carnivorous canines can flourish as omnivores. Highlights include: expert opinions from animal nutritionist enthusiasts on plant-based diets; health survey on dogs fed a vegan diet versus commercial based; comprehensive lists of “people” foods that are beneficial to dogs and those that are harmful; and dozens of recipes for biscuits and treats as well as more substantial fare. Basic Dog Biscuit Recipe, Banana Nut Crunch Bars, Apple PupCakes, Rover’s Risotto, Canine Cashew Casserole and Snickerpoodles are a few of the numerous ways to supplement or completely transform mealtimes safely, soundly, and deliciously.

I’m fascinated by this idea of a vegan cook book for dogs. Have you seen any other cook books for dogs? Is this the only book of its kind in the world?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who has a copy of this book. What are the recipes like? Is it easy to use?

And of course I can’t wait to read all of the comments from scientific experts who will tell me that I am the worst type of vegan for even mentioning this book on my blog. I’ve still not recovered from the feedback on the vegan cat post from a few months ago.

Vegetarian café ditches dairy – turns 100% vegan!

BIG NEWS. In the UK town of Leamington Spa, a café has decided to remove all dairy from its menu thus changing from vegetarian to 100% vegan.

This is my favourite type of news to share with you all.

The Garden Shed started out a year ago as a veggie cafe with about 4-5 cheese sandwich options. Owners Stephanie and Ruth never used eggs, dairy or cheese in their cooking or baking so it was a natural progression (which coincidentally followed their own lifestyle choices) to remove the cheese options one by one over the last year and replace them with vegan options. They make all of their own vegan cakes, vegan cheesecakes and vegan cheeses. They’ve even developed their own vegan sausage recipe, too.

I’m typing the word ‘vegan’ a lot in this blog post and I love it!

Stephanie and Ruth sent me a WHOLE bunch of photos to share with you. Check them out below and be sure to visit their website. Like The Garden Shed on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Quorn is NOT turning everything vegan

Much excitement was generated a few days ago when it was reported that Quorn was set to switch its entire product range from vegetarian to vegan.

Well, it appears our excitement was severely premature.

Quorn have released the following statement in regards to our plant-based hysteria:

quorn vegan

That’s a bit of a let down.

You can still sign the petition asking Quorn to turn their products vegan.

Post by:

josh panel

Well here’s something you don’t see very often.

This Saturday and Sunday there is a pop-up sauna in South Tottenham with vegan food provided by The Magic Cauldron and the Facebook page for the event says that swimwear is optional! Housed in a converted horse trailer, the sauna is open to all interested people and towels can be hired for £3. Interested yet? If not, then let me tell you about the food.

The Magic Cauldron will be at the pop-up event providing 100% vegan food. Here’s the flyer for the event:

magiccauldronflyer

It all looks and sounds divine:

  • Baked turmeric falafel
  • Red Cabbage Vietnamese Rolls
  • Sweet potato, carrot & courgette fritters
  • Creamy roasted red pepper curry & rice
  • Roasted beetroot & fennel hot lentil salad

So if you’ve always fancied getting your kit off and getting stuck into some tasty vegan food, then this weekend could be right up your alley!

New vegan shop in UK seaside town

Try and stop the march of veganism. I dare you.

Plant-based shops are opening all over the UK and the seaside town of Bridlington in East Yorkshire is next on the list.

Planetwise is opening today (Thursday March 24, 2016) to sell compassionate goods to the 35,000 residents of Bridlington! It is a totally vegan and eco-friendly shop with fair trade and gluten free products and a yoga studio attached.

Check out the photos below showing the Planetwise team getting the shelves stocked ahead of the grand opening.

You can stop by Planetwise to snap up drinks, snacks, pantry items, household products, yoghurt, canned food, ice cream and much more.

I love that veganism is exploding even in small towns like Bridlington.

Get over to the Planetwise Facebook page and give them a like.

Is Quorn going 100% vegan?

The story I posted months ago about Quorn launching a few vegan products became one of the most-read posts in the history of my blog within hours of going live.

So I know you are all going to LOVE this update.

A fabulous person named Tracey Dixon has started a petition to demand that Quorn transforms all of its products into plant-based foods and she has added an update from the company that is sure to cause a lot of excitement.

Check it out below:

quorn

If the above is true, it means Quorn is in the process to switching all of their products to 100% plant-derived ingredients!

You can click here to add your name to the petition.
