13th Note Glasgow

I am slowly working my way through reporting back to you on the vegan wonders of Glasgow. I can see why it has often been named ‘Best vegan UK city’. The place is absolutely heaving with vegan-friendly eateries.

Take The 13th Note as one example.

This vegetarian cafe is primarily a live music venue, but food certainly doesn’t take a back seat.  My group ate extremely well as you will notice from the photos below.

Burger and salad

Here is a quick post from Paris about a fabulous vegan burger restaurant with two locations.

Actually, M.O.B. is a chain with three locations. Two of these are situated in Paris while the original is in Brooklyn, U.S.A.

My trip a few nights back to the Rue Charlot location in Paris was a tremendous success. Every part of the experience was gorgeous, from the food all the way to the decor. The person taking my order talked me through the entire menu and I couldn’t have been happier with the service.

Check out the photo below of my delicious smoked burger, kale salad and beer.

I would recommend this as a wonderful place to get 100% vegan food anytime you are in Paris. I wanna go back now!

Visit the M.O.B. website to see all their locations, menus and opening times.

World Vegan Day menu

As you know, London Vegan Drinks taking place this month is also a celebration for World Vegan Day.

I am expecting to welcome more than 150 vegans and their friends to Kabaret in Wood Green this Saturday November 1st, 2014 from 6pm onwards.

Kabaret is the fabulous 100% vegan bar and cafe co-owned by Louise Wallis, the person who actually founded World Vegan Day. Louise will be behind the bar and doing a few DJ spots, so make sure you congratulate her and show your thanks.

We also have a very special guest who will be chatting with attendees. Vegan legend Colleen Patrick-Goudreau will be mingling throughout the evening and will have a few copies of her books to sell and sign.

And then the food!

Anarkali is the resident chef at Kabaret and she has created a super fun bar snack menu for the night.

Revellers at London Vegan Drinks will be well fed with the following:

Handmade gourmet burgers
– tofu burger and salad on bun (can be gluten free on request)
– garlic sausage burger and salad on bun

7″ pizzas
– classic with tomato, cheese and basil
– spinach and mushroom
– margherita
– Hawaiian
– pepperoni

Extra toppings available for pizzas

Home cooked wedges featuring sweet potatoes and rustic fries

Selection of relishes and sauces

Vegan champagne £30 per bottle

How exciting!

Come along on Saturday night from 6pm. All the details including directions and address can be seen by clicking here.

Sweet as

I have discovered a product that I can’t live without. How did I make it this far in life without it?

This mix of chilli, sugar, salt and hibiscus is some sort of magic concoction to which I can’t say no.

Check it out.

Birds and bees

I am sitting on a cosy train, being whisked past mist covered rolling hills as I leave Scotland behind me and return to London.

I have many happy Glasgow memories in my head jostling for blog space, but I have decided to let a delicious Scottish beer take the limelight today.

All vegan. Maybe.

To many people, I imagine this post is going to sound like a moaning vegan going too far but this topic has been playing on my mind for a while.

Why do people refer to a vegan restaurant as 100% vegan when it stocks and sells non-vegan alcohol?

Moth believes in an afterglow

Manchester is hurtling towards being the most fun destination in the UK for vegans.

They have a super awesome vegan grocery store, an amazing vegan diner and even the non-vegan establishments are serving award-worthy vegan meals. Manchester is a vegan hot spot.

A scorching hot vegan landscape such as this requires lots of vegan beer to cool you down and Beermoth is exactly the place to get the job done.

Drunk eating

During my recent trip to Manchester, I found myself staggering around the city centre after a few too many vegan beers in need of late night snacks. Thankfully a 24 hour shop had something to fill the void.

The late night/early morning convenience store on Piccadilly Gardens carried the Forest Foods range of products, a range with a surprising number of vegan options. I can’t say the items I picked up were incredible or even above average but they certainly sent my tummy to bed with more than just a few litres of beer in it.

Check out the photo I took of my goods below. Not the best photo, but a drunk FGV stumbling around a Travelodge at 1am will never do much better.

Vegan beer in Leeds

Here is some wonderful news for the vegans and beer lovers of Leeds.

Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club has announced the return of its beer festival, showcasing some of the best in Yorkshire breweries. A hit in last year’s heatwave, the event is going ahead on 19-20th September at the club on Wharf Street, Leeds offering a selection of 25 beers across the spectrum.

10310102_686816841412158_4374693498351204262_nAmong those returning are last year’s favourite, the award winning Golden Salamander from Bradford, along with new offerings from the likes of other favourites Brass Castle, Marble and Two Roses. The festival is also including beers from in and around York, such as the Great Yorkshire, Rudgate and Harrograte Breweries as well as the York Brewery itself, with a few from further afield such as Wold Top from outside Scarborough. In addition to casks there will also be a selection of keg beers from Golden Owl, Northern Monk and Brass Castle.

There will be over twenty casks and several kegs in the selection with cider lovers also being catered for. All beer and food will be suitable for vegans so everyone can get stuck in.

To make sure all attendees are having the best time possible, local DJs will be spinning tunes throughout the event and into the night. I am upset that I won’t be able to make it to Leeds for this event but thrilled to see such wonderful vegan happenings in the Northern city that holds a special place in my heart (once you have lived in Armley, you never really leave Leeds).

Entry to the Wharf Chambers Beer Festival will be £4, which includes a free half pint and souvenir glass.

Get over to the Facebook event page now to RSVP and invite friends.
