Gorgeous vegan food in north Wales

As fabulous as it is seeing the explosion of vegan food businesses across the UK, I do worry about ever having enough time and money to visit them all.

Take Harvest Vegetarian Kitchen for example.

The food being served looks absolutely stunning but when and how am I ever going to get to Wrexham in Wales?

However, the more I read their GIANT vegan menu the more feasible the mammoth journey seems.

The Harvest menu features all manner of stir fried dishes, noodle mains, crispy sides and vegan meats in black bean sauce. I would order one of everything!

The restaurant kindly gave me permission to reproduce some of their photos here. Check them out!

That is only a tiny fraction of the menu. Looks fab, right?

You can see the entire menu on the Harvest website and be sure to follow their Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Bwyty Fegan Newydd – New Vegan Restaurant

Post by:

Forgive the (possibly dodgy) Google translation in Welsh, but I was really excited about a new 100% vegan restaurant in Bangor, Wales. I reached out to the owners to find out what it was all about and here’s what they had to say:

We decided to open a vegan restaurant simply because it’s the right thing to do. We were tempted to hide behind the vegetarian safety net but decided to be brave and follow the heart. The support has been amazing and it turns out that there is certainly a demand for this modern cuisine. People are most certainly waking up to the effects our meat and dairy consumption is having on the planet. Also the health implications that processed meat is having and the disgraceful treatment of animals is appalling and needs to stop. We can’t always barge into slaughter houses or testing labs to protest but we can produce businesses that oppose such things. We can create easier ways for people to find cruelty free food.

Voltaire is vegan food but not typical vegan style, the food is actually more in keeping with regular restaurant food, it just happens to be vegan. Our meals are fusion, worldly and totally delicious! We wanted to create indulgent food, not just healthy. Food to treat yourself with! Creamy mushrooms and crispy battered cauliflower. Summer fruity curry with warmed naan, or Tibetan fried noodles with a choice of caramelised parsnip or non meat pieces. We love comfort food at Voltaire and our customers are our family.

I’m so pleased that they decided to take the 100% vegan route and the food sounds right up my alley. Check out the picture they sent me and another one I found on Instagram. I can’t wait to make my way to Bangor and get some of that beer-battered cauliflower!

ANOTHER vegan shop opens in UK

Cardiff. It’s your turn.

When news reached me of a 100% vegan grocery shop in Cardiff, I was ecstatic. The march of plant-based consumerism is fabulous news for our animal friends and compassionate people in Wales can now shop until they drop.

I reached out to Simply V co-founder Spencer to find out a little bit of inside information on his store:

Vegan Pizza Co.

Good for you, Cardiff.

You’ve gone and got yourself a fabulous new food business called Vegan Pizza Co.

I’m certain that is the best company logo I have ever seen. How cool would that look on a t-shirt? I need that on a t-shirt. XXL, please.

Vegan Pizza Co. has been serving up hot delights for a few months now, mostly at pop up events and markets.

Head on over to their Facebook page to drool over the photos of dozens of delectable pizzas.

I need to get my chubby, pizza-loving carcass to Cardiff soon. I can’t seriously expect life to be OK until I get a few slices from Vegan Pizza Co.

Like Vegan Pizza Co. on Facebook and follow them on Instagram and Twitter.

Man v Horse

Something popped up in my Twitter timeline this morning that made me feel sad and angry.

There is an annual sporting event in Wales called Man V Horse. This mini marathon is staged through the Welsh countryside and features people attempting to complete the course before riders on horseback.

As I watched the video showcasing the event (see below), of course I was instantly horrified by the use of animals in a sporting event. I am opposed to animals being used for any form of entertainment, especially a cross country race that they most definitely would not enter and run without a human on their back.

High on a hill

I’m not a physically-adventurous vegan, but I can’t assume the same of all my readers. In that vein, I am pleased to bring you the following information about the Snowdon Vegan Weekender.

Between Friday 25th and Sunday 27th July, 2014  you can stay in in a hostel, eat lots of vegan food and get active up a mountain. Oh, yeah. You can also help raise money for charity.

The 2nd Sponsored Walk up Snowdon, raising funds for the Vegan Organic Network and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, is taking place on Saturday 26th July. You can get involved AND make an entire vegan weekend out of the adventure.

The YHA at Pen-y-Pass, which is situated at the foot of Snowdon, is where the walk will start and also happens to be the main accommodation for the weekend. People not staying at the hostel will still be able to join the walk, dine at the hostel for vegan meals and enjoy all the entertainment on offer. Information about the sponsored walk and veganism will be on show in the YHA’s cafe, which will be open to the public during the day and is adopting an all vegan menu for the weekend!

For those making the trek up Snowdon, My Cupcakes bakery are supplying free vegan cakes at the summit.

The Snowdon Vegan Weekender promises to be a unique experience, that’s for certain. Last year’s event saw 70 people on the summit, a world record for the most people eating vegan cake on a mountain. How awesome is that?

Everyone is welcome on the family friendly walk, though you do need to be reasonably fit and know that you can walk the distance, which includes some steep sections. It is after all the biggest mountain in Wales. Non-walkers can catch the Snowdon Mountain Railway train to the summit from Llanberis but tickets need to be booked well in advance.

Full informations about the weekend, the climb and how to book accommodation can be found here.

Let me know what the view is like from the top!
