Cheese spread

Hooray for vegan cheese!

Violife has been sweeping the country as people react positively to having a plant-based range of cheeses in the UK that taste good and melt superbly.

The rise in popularity of Violife has been swift, thanks mostly to how darn easy it is to buy. I’ve seen the slices in Tesco stores, the blocks in independent health food stores and even the smoked flavour in vegan shop Vx.

Despite this massive march of the vegan cheese brand across the country, I struggled to find their cheese spread known as Violife Creamy. Until yesterday, that is!

Best breakfast

People in the UK love a cooked breakfast and the number one question I get asked by readers is concerned with that very topic.

Who serves a vegan version of a full English breakfast?

Vegans in Leeds will know the answer to this query. Yep, check out my recent breakfast at Global Tribe Cafe in Leeds city centre.

Oils ain’t oils

I need your help.

I have been sent these gorgeous-looking oils as a gift from a company called Mokhado and I’m not sure how best to utilise them.

There is a bottle of avocado oil, one of apricot kernel oil and a third of macadamia oil. I have never cooked with any of these oils and I’m especially curious about the apricot kernel variety. What should I do with this? Has anyone used it before?

The oils, from the Limpopo region of South Africa, are available to buy in the UK as a starter pack. Click here to see them online.

Vegan Tuck Box have surpassed themselves.

This fabulous subscription service has, for a while now, been the go to supplier of hard to find sweets and chocolates. The monthly box delivery is always rammed solid with tasty snacks and delicious surprises. (I first wrote about the Vegan Tuck Box here)

But what of surpassing themselves?

Vegan Tuck Box is now the number one place in the UK for the best vegan candy on the planet. They have No No’sPeanot No No’sPeanot Cups and Chocolate Covered Pretzels. The better part of this news is you don’t have to hope to get these in the mystery subscription box as you can order what you want, when you want.

Click here to visit the Vegan Tuck Box shop to see all the candy and treats available, as well as the eight (yes, eight!) different subscription box options. I’m incredibly tempted by the chocolate lover’s box.

But that’s not all.

How would you like to win the following selection of the best vegan candy on the planet?

tuck box prizeYou have no idea how difficult it is for me to have this in my house and not eat everything. Many thanks (sarcastic and real) to Vegan Tuck Box for donating this selection of goodies as a giveaway.

How do you win?

This is an Instagram competition. Head on over to my Instagram account, find the photo you see above, like it and leave a comment. Also follow my account if you feel like it.

I will randomly pick a winner next week. I probably won’t pick you if we are friends or enemies. I will post the box to you wherever you are in the world.

Get to it!

Also, follow Vegan Tuck Box on Twitter for news of more gorgeous treats coming up!

So delicious

Here’s a super quick post to let you know superstar vegan brand So Delicious has been spotted popping up around the UK.

I grabbed the chocolate coconut milk you see below from a Planet Organic store in London and there have been reports of their other milk products surfacing around the country.

Chip shop curry sauce

Oh, yes. Vegan chip shop curry sauce in a jar thanks to Sainsbury’s.

I’m from Brisbane, Australia so it is understandable that I have never eaten chips with curry sauce. We were too busy experiencing homophobic bullying at the hands of a corrupt police force to hunt out such exotic food stuffs. (Kinda joking. Google ‘corrupt Queensland police’ if you enjoy that sort of thing. But pack a lunch, it will be a long read).

Due to my mundane food experiences as an oppressed queer teenager, I don’t know too much about the chip shop curry sauce phenomenon.

Is it a thing all over the UK or just in certain parts? Is it delicious? Or horrendous?

Extra note: this jar carries the Sainsbury’s vegan label and the photo originally appeared on my Instagram account which you can see here.

Sucker

I am a sucker for pro-vegan product labelling and it doesn’t come grander than this carton of Oatly milk.

I didn’t need milk. I bought it anyway. How could I not buy it?

This is one of the most fabulous things I have ever seen printed on the side of a product. There is so much minimising of veganism by food producers for fear of scaring away possible customers, but not by Oatly!

News flash, people. It is 2015 and the general public know, understand and are even beginning to like what the word ‘vegan’ means.

Vegan pride.

North London snacking

Yesterday was a celebration of vegan snack purchases in North London.

Check out four items that floated by plant-based boat north of the River Thames.

The top three were purchased in Bumblebee on Brecknock Road in Kentish Town while the spicy popcorn is from Vx in Kings Cross. Do you like what you see?

I love vegan snacks! Have you seen anything lately you think I should check out? Don’t keep me hanging. Comments below, por favor.
