Hammersmith Thursdays

Poor old West London gets a bit neglected as all the cool vegan stuff tends to happen Central, South, North and East. Well get ready, ’cause Hammersmith is getting its vegan on.

I stumbled upon an outdoor food market set up in Lyric Square today and got a very pleasant surprise. There was vegan food available!

Go west

Why is all the fun, cheap vegan food everywhere but West London? It isn’t!

I recently heard rumblings of a pop up cafe on Portobello Road and wasted little time in getting over there to check it out.

LOTUS Cucina is a super cute pop up cafe housed in a juice bar at 297 Portobello Road, just under the Westway if you are heading away from Notting Hill (nearest Tube station is Ladbroke Grove).

You want vegan food? You got it. You want cheap prices? You got it. You want a friendly cook who will cheerfully deliver your food to your table? You got it. LOTUS Cucina is the perfect mix of tasty food and relaxed atmosphere. It’s good food done well. Simple.

Here comes the rising tide

The weather in London at the moment is not suited to dining by the river. Winds are getting chilly as temperatures sink. We were even gifted with an ever so light dusting of snow a few days ago.

Being forced indoors has prompted me to recall my last meal by the Thames prior to the sad weather descending on the capital. Even more depressingly, the meal was just as dull as the current weather situation.

Western Ghats what I’m talking about

Sagar vegetarian Indian restaurant

Something has been troubling me and I had no other choice than to bring in a guest. Many months ago Josh and I dined in a West London vegetarian restaurant. I was underwhelmed by the Indian food and have not been inspired to write a review about our experience.

Although much time has passed, Josh kindly agreed to write his first ever blog entry and has recounted our night at Sagar in Hammersmith as a FGV guest contributor. Take it away, Josh.

I went to the water’s edge

Summer is almost upon the UK. I think if I keep repeating this statement like a mantra, it will eventually come true. When it does, I am heading back to the Town Wharf for a vegan beverage.

The Town Wharf in Isleworth, Greater London

There are many places to consume alcohol around London. Online sources swing wildly in their estimates, with the average number being somewhere in the region of 7000.

I don’t think I will ever drink in more than a few per cent of these establishments and the chances of me spreading the FGV love around is even slimmer with the discovery of the Town Wharf pub in Isleworth.

This Samuel Smith pub is situated in a visually-stunning location in the west of London. Gorgeous views of the River Thames and passing wildlife make this a must-see for visitors and locals alike.

If I could melt your heart

Frozen lime daiquiri

Summer is desperately trying to break through the clouds here in the UK. The stuttering arrival of the warmest season brings with it handy excuses to eat copious amounts of frozen treats. Frozen treats rarely get tastier than the daiquiri sorbet I recently discovered. Oh yes, you read correctly.

These tubs of ice cold delight will make you smile. It’s that simple.

But it isn’t just clothing and accessories on offer to tempt eager consumers along this famous shopping strip. Vegan foodies will be delighted to learn of a sophisticated eatery serving up 100% plant-based fare. It is called Saf.
