Vegan burger battle

Oh. My. Buns.

Do you enjoy decadent vegan burgers? Well, you had better along to Hackney Downs Vegan Market on Saturday Septmeber 16, 2017 between 11am and 5pm as four of the best vegan food traders in London go head to head with gorgeous burger creations.

It’s a Vegan Burger Battle, people!

Should we explore the options?

1- Temple of Seitan – soft white bun lightly toasted featuring a special recipe burger sauce, crunchy hash brown, succulent burger with gristle, fried mozzarella block, and a slice of bacon.

2 – Big V London – the Classic Facon Cheeseburger. Classic plant meat burger with melted mature cheddar, crispy house maple bacon, burger sauce, spicy tomato relish, red onion, pickles on a toasted custom poppy seed Brioche bun.

3 – Cafe SoVegan – the Mac Daddy. A southern style chicken burger topped with salad, mac no cheese and crispy onions.

4 – Eat Chay – Korean BBQ Big Mac with vegan cheese and homemade vegan kimchi.

If you had to pick just one, what would you do? OK, that’s a bit cruel. I’ll let you pick two.

This version of Hackney Downs Vegan Market is going to be one of the best showcases of vegan burgers you can get in the UK.

If burgers are not your thing (please leave), rest assured that we have a stunning line up of sweet and savoury food from a huge roster of street food traders.

You can see the full line up here and you can RSVP to the Facebook event online here.

Yay for vegan burger battles!

New vegan cheese business

I know I complain about not being able to keep up with vegan developments, but for real I cannot keep up with all the artisan vegan cheese flying at my face.

One such new nut cheese business on the block is called The Cashew Family and they just happen to be trading at Hackney Downs Vegan Market this Saturday (August 19, 2017).

Get a little sneak preview of what they do and make sure to follow them on Instagram so you can keep updated on their latest market dates (such as their Tottenham Green Market appearances each Sunday!).

The is all happening at Chorlton Brewery, 69 North Western Street, M12 6DX, around a ten minute walk from Piccadilly station. The event is at an actual brewery with some outdoor seating. Click here to see it on Google Maps.

Huge vegan street market in Birmingham

Kings Heath Business Improvement District is teaming up with The Vegan Grindhouse and Kitchen Garden Cafe for the all new Kings Heath Vegan Market in Birmingham.

This thing sounds huge.

The Kitchen Garden Art Market will showcase the work of talented local artists, creators and makers, while there will also be live music all afternoon from local musicians to keep you entertained.

Money raised from the market will go to Grace’s Rest, an animal welfare charity for rescued exotic animals.

The vendor line up is so huge you must get over to the Facebook event page to see the entire thing.

Yay for vegan markets!

Leicester gets into the community spirit

As someone who puts a lot of time and effort into running community events, I love hearing about other activists undertaking similar projects in their areas.

Take the Leicester Vegan Community, for example.

This group is a not-for-profit collection of local vegans who promote veganism through a series of special events, markets, meetups and fairs.

Their events have a no-fee policy for vegan charities and are powered by the strength of local volunteers.

The next big event on the Leicester Vegan Community calendar is the third edition of Leicester Vegan Market coming up on Sunday June 11, 2017.

This is a totally vegan takeover of Leicester’s market space, so it will be well worth the journey if you are in the surrounding area.

Like the Leicester Vegan Community group on Facebook and RSVP to the market Facebook event.

And for the love of carrots, get inspired by these humans and start this sort of thing in your area!

Autumn Yard is vegan for a day

If you are planning to be part of the first monthly Hackney Downs Vegan Market, you now have another option for dining.

As if all of the amazing street food wasn’t enough, you can now also plan on sitting down for a meal with onsite restaurant Autumn Yard. Like they did for the Christmas Market, the restaurant is switching to a 100% vegan food menu for the day.

Isn’t that fab?!

Would you like to see the menu?

That looks like a tasty line up!

Autumn Yard is a gorgeous setting inside an old warehouse and the perfect place to relax with a warming meal if the March weather is a little on the grim side. The food is exquisite and you might even be tempted by a cocktail or two.

You can visit Autumn Yard online and follow them on Instagram.

Vegan night market!

Are you worried that Australia is not on top of vegan stuff? Well, don’t be. They are all over it.

Check out the Farewell Winter Night Market in Sydney, organised by the wonderfully-named Vegan Collective.

As you can see on the Facebook event pageFarewell Winter Night Market is packed solid with multiple food stalls as well as various other traders.

If you are familiar with the vegan scene in Sydney, you’ll be happy to see the following line up of traders:

Treat Dreams
Over The Moo
GoGo Vego
Herbisaurus
Rhubarb Bakes
Wild Kombucha by Ballsy
Peppermint Pantry
Little Vegan Make Up Shop

The Chocolate Yogi

That’s a strong collection. Add live music to the mix and this sounds like a winning night out in Redfern (where FGV used to live!).

Extra note: this event is taking place on International Vegan Junk Food Day 2016.

Vegan market in Leicester

Nothing warms my heart quite like news of a vegan market.

I have recently been telling anyone who will listen that vegan street or farmers markets are the way forward, so I’m thrilled to hear that the first ever event of its kind for Leicester is taking place next month.

As the flyer says below, a diverse range of products will be available as well as lots of delicious plant-based food on June 12, 2016.

The best part? Leicester Vegan Market is being staged smack bang in the middle of the historic town centre, meaning it will enjoy extremely high visibility and will help expose a lot of locals to vegan choices.

You should RSVP to the Leicester Vegan Market Facebook event and make plans to get along to support this wonderful initiative.
