I have just got back to London after a very long journey with China Eastern and I need to talk about it, partly as a vent and partly as a heads up for other vegan travellers.
The route was Brisbane to Shanghai, a flight of around nine and a half hours, followed by a six hour layover in Shanghai Pudong airport, and then a further fourteen hour flight from Shanghai to London Gatwick. All in all, a properly long haul journey that was tiring and rather gruelling.
Here is a photo of the food I was given in the cabin.
We are getting closer to a century of podcast episodes and this week episode 99 of Tell Me Where I’m Going (Wrong) was recorded while I was visiting Australia.
Josh and I chat about travel etiquette, what we think of Madonna’s new music, and legendary Australian rockstar (and vegan!) Adalita of Magic Dirt. We also revisit our our personal stories of dealing with homophobia following Australian sporting personality Kane Evans coming out.

Sometimes we are faced with eating the vegan option in a non-vegan restaurant, especially when we find ourselves in a location with no all-vegan options or when the local vegan restaurants are closed.
This happened to me during my final day in Brisbane today, on a quiet Sunday night in the city centre.
As I write this, I am in Brisbane, Australia, visiting friends and family in the city where I spent my childhood and early adult years. In a few days I will fly back to the UK, but later this year I will be making the move back to Brisbane on a much more permanent basis.
It is fair to say this visit has stirred up a lot of emotions.

How about two middle-aged gay men talking about lots of topics with no expertise or insight?
Episode 95 of Tell Me Where I’m Going (Wrong) is out now. In this episode, Josh and I chat about the death cap mushroom murder mystery from Australia, how the media attacks on Zack Polanski are getting out of hand, and why I love the new Gaga live album.
We are two vegans talking about current events, pop culture, food, music, travel, and whatever else takes our interest.

Knowing about my anti-Christmas stance you might be wondering what do I eat when everything is closed? Most Christmas Days of the past I have simply cooked a a meal in my own home, however I have become curious about restaurants that remain open on the day serving food that isn’t what a lot of people would consider traditional Christmas cuisine.
This year I was in Brisbane, Australia and was fortunate to discover that U-Tong Vegan Thai Restaurant was open on Christmas Day. It was a no-brainer to get along for a meal!
Oliver, who has been a regular reader around these parts for a LONG time, kindly let me know that he isn’t yet tired of my posts from Brisbane, Australia.
With that knowledge, I am dedicating this post about some delicious vegan comfort food to Oliver.
You are probably getting tired of reading about my trip to Brisbane, Australia.
I’ve been in my hometwon for the past few weeks but I am heading back to London in a few days, so you don’t have to put up with these Down Under updates for too much longer.
But before I head back to the land of 3:30pm sunsets, let me tell you about this lovely meal I recently enjoyed here in Brisbane.
My visit here in Brisbane, Australia is coming to an end and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegan groceries available in the larger supermarkets.
Following on from my post about vegan finds in the shops a few days ago, here is another bunch of plant-based supermarket items I’ve seen during these past few days.
I’m not afraid to make bold statemnts on this blog. I have strong opinions and I rarely hold my tongue, instead I’m happy to blurt out what comes to mind.
And today I want to continue this tradition of speaking freely and tell you about my favourite vegan restaurant on the planet. Yes, my number one restaurant.
