Vegan Burger in Australian Chain

Sometimes we are faced with eating the vegan option in a non-vegan restaurant, especially when we find ourselves in a location with no all-vegan options or when the local vegan restaurants are closed.

This happened to me during my final day in Brisbane today, on a quiet Sunday night in the city centre.

Can FGV survive in Brisbane, Australia?

Coming home can be surprisingly complicated.

As I write this, I am in Brisbane, Australia, visiting friends and family in the city where I spent my childhood and early adult years. In a few days I will fly back to the UK, but later this year I will be making the move back to Brisbane on a much more permanent basis.

It is fair to say this visit has stirred up a lot of emotions.

Alternative Vegan Christmas Dinner

You might have seen a few days ago when I blogged about not being a fan of Christmas.

If you missed the post, you can read online here.

Knowing about my anti-Christmas stance you might be wondering what do I eat when everything is closed? Most Christmas Days of the past I have simply cooked a a meal in my own home, however I have become curious about restaurants that remain open on the day serving food that isn’t what a lot of people would consider traditional Christmas cuisine.

This year I was in Brisbane, Australia and was fortunate to discover that U-Tong Vegan Thai Restaurant was open on Christmas Day. It was a no-brainer to get along for a meal!

How vegan is Brisbane, Australia?

Returning to Brisbane after so many years away is something I have always approached with a mix of curiosity and caution.

This is the city that shaped me, confused me, challenged me and, at times, hurt me. It is also the city I left in order to make sense of the world on my own terms. Coming back has never felt simple, but this time something felt different, and a big part of that difference has been seeing Brisbane through a vegan lens.
