Sometimes we are faced with eating the vegan option in a non-vegan restaurant, especially when we find ourselves in a location with no all-vegan options or when the local vegan restaurants are closed.
This happened to me during my final day in Brisbane today, on a quiet Sunday night in the city centre.

I had to race back to pack my suitcase tonight and only had limited time to look for something to eat.
I stumbled across Betty’s Burgers, a non-vegan burger chain with some clearly marked vegan options. The chain restaurant has more than 70 locations scattered around Australia and is growing quickly.
I normally try to stay away from fast food restaurants that serve meat and dairy, but with limited options on call tonight I decided to take a risk on the vegan menu items.
The vegan burger was delicious with a patty that was a bit like a bean burger inside a soft bun, accompanied by fresh lettuce, tomato, and spicy burger sauce. This is one of the tastiest vegan burgers I’ve enjoyed from a fast food spot and it was interesting to see something other than a Beyond Burger patty.
Both the fries and sweet potato fries were perfect (and clearly marked vegan on the menu). They were hot, salted, and crispy!
I am not familiar at all with the reputation of Betty’s Burgers so I can’t vouch for them in any way other than they have vegan options that might help you out if you find yourself caught short in Australia.
Check the Betty’s Burgers website to see more about the locations and the menu.
