Vegan company moves to plastic free

Oumph! is phasing out plastic in preference for recyclable cardboard packaging. The multi award-winning Swedish plant-based food producer is rolling out the new cardboard packaging into all markets where Oumph! is sold, starting with the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands.

“Our food is a progressive choice and we wanted the packaging to match that. With our new recyclable packaging the aim is to further further limit our environmental impact”, says Linda Arnason, Global Brand Manager at Oumph! which is one of the LIVEKINDLY Collective’s brands.

Arnason, who is leading Oumph!’s packaging project continues:

“There are certain challenges in creating a more sustainable packaging for frozen food, and we are pleased to announce that we’ve found a solution with recyclable cardboard packaging. Not only is it better for the environment, but we’re also receiving positive feedback from retailers because the packaging is easy to stack, and requires less freezer space.”

The new Oumph! packaging is now available in the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands, and will be rolled out in Sweden, the Nordic countries, Germany, Ireland and South Africa this spring.

The new packaging is designed to match Oumph!’s bold brand attitude, and it has received good feedback from consumers and retailers alike.

“Oumph! has an edge as a brand and we want that to be reflected in the packaging. We believe the new design will stand out in the supermarket freezers for consumers to easily find their favourite Oumph! product”, comments Anders ‘Ankan’ Linden, Co-founder, Corporate Chef and Head of Innovation at Oumph!

“With several new product launches planned for this year, the new cardboard packaging plays an important part as we continue to develop tasty, appealing and innovative plant-based food products.”

Oumph! is heading to Australia

LIVEKINDLY Collective, a collection of brands on track to become one of the world’s largest plant-based food companies, is spicing up the plant-based food category with the launch of Swedish brand Oumph! into Australia.

The award-winning range – which has gained a cult following in Europe for its uniquely ‘meaty’ mouth feel, and bold, irreverent brand – has been introduced to the Australian market with its hero product, Pulled Oumph!

The Oumph! range is made from sustainable soya protein and is designed for use in cooking and recipes, setting it apart from the many ‘ready meal’ style plant-based products currently available in Australian retail.

LIVEKINDLY Collective is a global group of brands led by a management team of food industry veterans that collectively aim to lead the lifestyle shift to plant-based. The launch of Oumph! in Australia, alongside top performing sister brand The Fry Family Food Group, signals a rapid development of Australia’s plant-based food market.

LIVEKINDLY Collective Australia’s General Manager Shaun Richardson said, “We’re excited about what Oumph! will bring to the Australian market. We want to kill boring and see a huge opportunity to satisfy consumers – particularly younger audiences – that are keen to experiment with plant-based foods, but don’t resonate with the brands and products currently on the market.”

“In the early days of the plant-based movement, plant-based consumers were seen by the market as a homogenous group – the stereotypical vegans. Now, as plant-based gains pace in becoming the ‘new normal’, we’re at an exciting phase where we’re realising that there are many different types of people that enjoy plant-based foods, and there are many different ways to enjoy them.”

Pulled Oumph! has already been listed at Woolworths supermarkets down under.

Extra note: Oumph! and LiveKindly have sponsored some of my content in the past, however this is something I’m sharing off my own back. I’m excited this brand is now available in the place of my birth!

FGV takes on Oumph!

I love getting invited to try new vegan products and I love it even more when said products are TASTY!

Oumph! reached out to me recently and asked if they could sponsor me to shop for their range in an Iceland store near me. If you don’t know, Iceland is a chain of supermarkets in the UK that specialises in frozen foods.

The exciting news of the month is all about the HUGE selection of vegan meat products now stocked in Icelend stores, including a bunch of products from Oumph!

Click here to take a look at the very DIY video I made of my trip. It features shoddily recorded footage of me shopping in my nearest Iceland store.

The meat free/plant based freezer in the store is packed with brands from the LIVEKINDLY Collective including Oumph!, LikeMeat, The No Meat Company, and Fry Family Foods.

I bought pretty much one of everything, but my favourites so far have been the Oumph! Mince and the Oumph! Balls. Check out this ramen-inspired dish we had at my house tonight featuring the mince.

Get into your nearest Iceland store if you want to check out the vegan freezer, but take my word on the balls. You gotta get the balls!

Much love to Oumph! for sponsoring this content. You can follow them on Instagram.

Oumph! asked me to Plant It Forward

One of my favourite things to happen during Veganuary 2021 was being asked by Oumph! to take part in their Plant It Forward campaign.

Being sponsored to cook with (and eat) food you love is the dream, right?!

If you don’t know, Oumph! is an award-winning business making delicious meat alternatives that are helping people go vegan and stay vegan.

The product range from Oumph! includes seasoned and unseasoned meat alternatives, making them versatile and suited for every occasion. If you are looking to make a gourmet meal, pack a quick snack, or fore up a BBQ, Oumph! has got a product for you.

Check out two of my recent Oumph! creations below.

The Pulled Oumph! worked perfectly in this warm potato salad.

You can ignore the cheeky lettuce in the first image. I’m really not sure what I was thinking, but I swapped it out for parsley in the final dish.

The creaminess of the potatoes and vegan mayo was the perfect accompaniment for the tangy Oumph!.

The Smoky Bits made from wheat are what you need for a solid pasta dish.

I upgraded some penne with broccolini, tomato, mushroom, and Oumph! Smoky Bits. I would eat this meal every single day.

Big thanks to Oumph! for getting me involved in this campaign for Veganuary. My tastebuds had a great time.

Veganuary gets global sponsors

To mark World Vegan Day on 1 November, 2020, popular vegan food brands The Fry Family Food Co. and Oumph! have announced their official sponsorship of Veganuary 2021.

International Marketing Director at Fry’s and Veganuary ambassador of six years, Tammy Fry, will be spearheading the month-long challenge on behalf of the brands to encourage people worldwide to try a plant-based diet for January and beyond.

“As a lifelong herbivore, mother and business leader in the plant-based food space, Veganuary is an opportunity to share my years of knowledge and support people regardless of where they’re at in their plant-based food journey,” said Tammy Fry.

She continued, “Fry’s has a history of leading plant-based initiatives, like Veganuary, in South Africa. This is the first year we’ve been able to step up as a global sponsor and I cannot wait to work with our sister brand Oumph!, to use our collective reach and resources to help drive record participation around the world to make plant-based eating the new normal.”

The Veganuary pledge works by signing up participants who will receive 31 days of recipes, shopping guides, meal plans, restaurant suggestions, social media community groups, and more to take them on a taste adventure full of new flavour experiences, as well as a kinder way of eating.

The LikeMeat brand will also be amplifying the initiative in Germany.

New Oumph! products on the way including sausages!

Oumph! is launching two new fabulous products into Swedish supermarkets from March 16, 2020 with a UK and Ireland launch taking place later in the year.

The Oumph! Banger and Oumph! Smoky Bits are about to hit the shelves and they are highly anticipated. Especially by me!

“Our aim is that The Oumph! Banger and Oumph! Smoky Bits will raise the bar for the plant-based category in Sweden”, says Victoria Norviit, Brand and Category Manager at Oumph! and Food for Progress.

“The Oumph! Banger is a unique plant-based sausage for the next generation of products. The Oumph! Banger has been created combining traditional sausage making, craftsmanship and innovation with state of the art techniques”.

The Oumph! Banger is made from soya beans. It has a smokiness which means it works well as a hotdog, or in pasta dishes and stews. The sausage casing is made from algae and has the crisp bite you’d expect from a good sausage casing.

The Oumph! Banger is suitable for frying, cooking in the oven, barbecuing or grilling on an open fire.

Oumph! Smoky Bits is a wheat based product which is suitable to fry and serve in plant-based carbonara dishes, pies, omelettes and range of other dishes.

“Oumph! Smoky Bits is a versatile product for anyone who’s been looking for a really good plant-based alternative to bacon or ham, and it’s works in a range of classic dishes, such as pasta, or for other breakfast, lunch, dinner and party food occasions”, says Hans Mathiason, Head of Taste and Texture at Oumph! and Food for Progress.

UK pub chain adds vegan burger to menu

The plant-based Oumph! Burger, from Swedish multi-award winning Food for Progress, is now on the menu in a number of Shepherd Neame flagship pubs in Kent and London.

“There is a growing market for vegan burgers, so we decided to put a number of different brands to the test before introducing one on our menu. We asked 30 members of our team to try the burgers, and every time the Oumph! burger came out on top for taste and texture. When comparing the nutritional content of the burgers, the Oumph! Burger also scored very highly”, says Shepherd Neame head development chef Simon Howlett.

The inspiration for The Oumph! Burger was based on a juicy rare burger, but the difference is that the Oumph! Burger is made with entirely plant-based ingredients. Like all Oumph! products, The Oumph! Burger is made with soya beans, and the fine red colour comes from beetroot. The Oumph! Burger weighs 113g, which is the equivalent of a Quarter Pounder.

Dave Smith, head of UK Foodservice at Oumph! and Food for Progress comments:

“We’re pleased to see that such a well-established pub company as Shepherd Neame has chosen the plant-based Oumph! Burger for their pub menu. No doubt this will be very welcome among vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians.”

The Oumph! Burger is now available in the following Shepherd Neame flagship pubs: The Spitfire in Kings Hill; Ship & Trades in Chatham Maritime; Royal Hotel in Deal; Bell Hotel in Sandwich; Royal Albion in Broadstairs; Samuel Pepys in London; Sun Inn, Faversham; Market House, Maidstone; Jamaica Wine House in London; and Marine Hotel, Tankerton.

The Oumph! burger at these Shepherd Neame locations is totally vegan including the bun and all accompaniments . It’s cooked in an oven and grill, while their preparation and service of vegan food follows the same guidelines as their allergen controls. One person oversees the burger from start to finish in order to control process and quality.

Oumph! are launching their plant-based frozen Italian Style pizza in 179 Tesco stores in the UK from September 16, 2018.
