One of the greatest joys for me as Fat Gay Vegan over the past 16 years has been championing independent vegan businesses.
Whether it has been writing about exciting new products on this blog, organising Hackney Downs Vegan Market, or helping small businesses connect with thousands of customers through supper clubs and events, I have always believed that our independent traders are the heart of the vegan movement.
That is why I am so excited that the return of London Vegan Beer Fest this September 19th in Mile End will feature a dedicated retail tent packed with incredible independent businesses.

I don’t often stop to celebrate the legacy of the FGV blog itself.
This blog has always been about shining a light on other people. Independent vegan businesses. Animal sanctuaries. Fundraising events. Community gatherings. New products. Restaurant openings. Beer festivals (ahem!).

Last week a group of us headed along to Tofu Vegan on Charlotte Street to celebrate my husband’s birthday because he absolutely loves the place.
The food is consistently excellent, the menu is huge, and every single dish on our table had us declaring it the best of the night.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about compassion and how exhausting it can feel trying to care about the world in any meaningful way.
There is so much happening that we take on board as compassionate people. War. Genocide. Poverty. Racism. Anti-immigrant hatred. Queerphobia. Transphobia. Disabled people being abandoned by the Government (take your pick of the country!). Workers being crushed. Climate collapse. Animal suffering on an industrial scale. People struggling to afford food and rent while corporations make unimaginable profits.
Sometimes it can feel impossible to hold all of it in your head at once, so I wanted to take a few minutes to get some thoughts out my brain.
