It’s bad news on the blog today, I’m sorry to say.

Pipoca in Brixton to close

I was searching online today, trying to find some good news to share with you all. However, my search ended up with sad news grabbing my attention.

The social media accounts for Pipoca of Brixton all featured news of the upcoming closure, with this heartfelt message from founder Claudia:

There comes a moment when you have to make one of the hardest decisions of your life, and with a very heavy heart, today is that moment for me.

After almost 8 years, it’s time to close this chapter of Pipoca.

This isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly. Last year, closing the shop helped ease some of the financial pressure, and I truly believed I could make this new concept work. What I didn’t realise was that starting again takes time—and more energy than I had left.

For the last few months I’ve been doing everything myself: managing the café, making coffees, cooking, washing dishes, creating content, organising events, and everything in between. I kept telling myself I could keep going, until my body started telling me otherwise.

After so many years of giving everything I had to Pipoca, I’ve reached a point where I can no longer give it what it deserves.

Even so, I don’t look back with regret.

Pipoca was never just a café. Together we’ve helped animals, inspired people to eat differently, built an incredible community, and created memories I’ll carry with me forever. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together.

To everyone who walked through our doors, shared a meal, came to an event, supported us, or simply believed in what we were trying to do—thank you. None of this would have been possible without you.

The timing makes this even harder because in just a couple of weeks Pipoca would have celebrated its 8th anniversary. I never imagined I’d be writing these words instead.

Maybe this isn’t the end of Pipoca—just the end of this chapter. Maybe one day it will return in a different form. For now, I just know I need to rest and reconnect with myself and nature.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in this little dream for almost eight years.

I’d like to express my genuine gratitude to Claudia and everyone involved in Pipoca for everything they did to support community and outcomes for animals.

In addition to the news of the site closing, Claudia has posted about a clearance sale in which she is selling furniture, cafe equipment, kitchenware, glassware, storage, interiors, greeting cards, and lots more.

If you are interested in helping Pipoca transition more smoothly and with less stress, please pop in before closing to shop for any of the above AND have a bite to eat. See the exact location thanks to Google Maps. Final trading day is September 20th, 2026.
