Vegan meat night

London, are you ready?

This Friday night is the night you go to Black Cat cafe in Hackney. No excuses.

Wanna know why?

Javier Suarez, a South American chef based in London, has spent the last decade traveling around the globe due to his activity as a musician. He has explored vegan food options across the whole world. Inacio Gomez, head chef at Black Cat Hackney, invited Javier to take over Fridays at the cafe kitchen. Together they developed the idea of the Artisan Vegan ‘Meats’ Supper Night.

The vegan meats night is launching from 5pm this Friday (March 20, 2015). Food will be served until 10pm and the regular low Black Cat prices will be in place.

The menu sounds stunning. Check it out on the poster below.

Breakfast can’t wait

A rapid post to hip you to a fun breakfast I recently enjoyed.

Following on from a quick trip to Chatsworth Road Market to buy vegan cake (see here), Josh and I were of course still hungry. What’s the nearest vegan food provider to the market? Black Cat Cafe!

Learn to boss

We all know about the fabulous Made in Hackney, right? This community-concerned kitchen is an invaluable source of information about plant based eating for local residents via a whole host of workshops and classes.

The centre offers discounted courses to people experiencing financial hardship. These courses are in part made possible by some of the full-priced classes hosted by Made in Hackney. This is a great way of making sure everyone has access to information about vegan food, no matter what their economic status.

One of these full price classes is a weekend long, hands on experience for people looking to start their own small food company. It sounds thorough and extremely valuable.

The Making to Sell Intensive Weekender will cover:

  • Becoming an ethical small scale producer
  • Product presentation
  • Branding
  • Securing retailers
  • Sourcing local/ethical ingredients
  • The legal bits

This sounds like a perfect course for someone looking to start or expand a vegan home food business or market stall.

Taking place on June 14 and 15, the cost for the weekend is £65 (£52 Concession) including a free organic lunch.

All the information about the course and how to book can be found by clicking here.

Go get schooled and start some vegan businesses, London. We need you!

I overdid it at the soda shop

Here is some quick and tasty news for you.

Buy vegan soda in London that is delicious!

I have been hearing good things about new(ish) soda company Square Root and was keen to get it on my chubby tastebuds. This Hackney-based company make all their drinks by hand from seasonal ingredients and they sell them from a gorgeous vintage tricycle fitted out with taps from which they pour the tasty liquid.

Nine lives

Pogo Cafe is gone but in a city the size of London, vacant cafes don’t sit empty for long.

It is with great excitement that I welcome Black Cat Vegan Café to the capital food scene. This workers’ co-op has taken over the old Pogo site and looks set to keep the spirit of vegan eating alive and well in Hackney.

I am yet to make it over to the new cafe but that hasn’t stopped me from sharing with you what I know. Here are some bits of information sent through by Carolyn, the chef at Black Cat Vegan Café.

I would love to hear what you all think of the food on offer.
