Manchester has a lot of fab vegan things going for it and right up there on that list is the plant-based menu at Ning.

Ning is a Malaysian cuisine eatery situated next door to the current location of Revolution. Even though I’ve written about Ning in the past, my recent trip there was so outstanding I wanted to share the food photos with you all.

Best crumble

How often do you find a vegan crumble with custard in a London pub?

If you answered, “Never FGV, never!” I would believe you and act extremely sympathetic. The lack of vegan pub desserts in the capital is close to a disgrace. An emergency, if you will.

Thankfully, the Old Ship W6 is here to elevate our compassionate pudding experience.

Not only is this pub serving up one of the items on my ‘top 13 vegan things to consume in London list’, they are also offering this seasonal dessert that would surely satisfy most anyone.

Seaweed burger in Netherlands

As we’re on our Dutch odyssey, let’s take a quick break from bustling Amsterdam and swing by Dordrecht, a nice little town that we visited partly (ahem, mainly) due to the presence of a new vegan café called Daantje there that we wanted to try.

And we were so glad we did! Dordrecht is a very pretty town, and Daantje was a lovely café, bright and cheerful, on a postcard-perfect old Dutch street.

So the ambience was spot-on, you’ll be glad to hear the food was excellent too. I had a “Dutch Weed Burger” (which may be named provocatively but is just a play on words, it’s named after the seaweed it contains) which had been recommended to me by almost every Dutch person I spoke to (or so it seemed). It was huge and delicious!

Jess had a brie, walnut and maple syrup wrap, which was also great. The vegan brie is apparently made on the premises, and was really creamy and full of flavour. Had we been served this in a non-vegan place, I’d have been suspicious of dairy infiltration! But the friendly owner is definitely 100% vegan.

So should you fancy visiting the Netherlands but having a break from Amsterdam, then I can recommend a day in Dordrecht, including a visit to Daantje.

Korean done vegan

How often do you see Korean cooking sauces labelled vegan in the supermarket?

I bet it’s not very often.

Check out these gorgeous-looking sauces called Yogiyo spotted by Josh in our local Sainsbury’s yesterday.

The blue label bottle is a dipping sauce while the orange is a cooking sauce. A third bottle does exist for stir frying but sadly that contains honey. How fab would it be if they could switch out the honey and veganise the entire range?

The company founder, Sue Youn, launched what she claims is the UK’s first Korean ingredient range via an appearance on the TV show Dragon’s Den. With the range now in hundreds of supermarkets around the country, Sue must have presented a great pitch on the show!

Review: Wild Food Cafe in London

For some foolish reason, I agreed to meet a colleague for a coffee in Covent Garden on the last Saturday before Christmas. The streets got busier as time went on and when our meeting came to an end just before lunchtime, I needed to find somewhere for a quick bite to eat away from the crowds. I immediately remembered the Wild Food Cafe in Neal’s Yard. I’d heard so much about it, but never had the chance to visit.

You’ve gone and got yourself a fabulous new food business called Vegan Pizza Co.

I’m certain that is the best company logo I have ever seen. How cool would that look on a t-shirt? I need that on a t-shirt. XXL, please.

Vegan Pizza Co. has been serving up hot delights for a few months now, mostly at pop up events and markets.

Head on over to their Facebook page to drool over the photos of dozens of delectable pizzas.

I need to get my chubby, pizza-loving carcass to Cardiff soon. I can’t seriously expect life to be OK until I get a few slices from Vegan Pizza Co.

Christmas fete

A brand new vegan cake company is taking part in a Christmas fete inside a vegan bar and nightclub.

This is pretty cool. Check it out.

Laurianne’s Raw Cakes has launched in Scotland and one of the first outings for the company is The Flying Duck’s Big Christmas Fete taking place tomorrow in Glasgow (Saturday 19th December, 2015).

As I was meeting a friend for dinner at the behemothic Westfield London shopping mall in White City earlier this week, I googled ‘vegan westfield london’ beforehand and a Brazilian restaurant called Cabana Brasilian Barbecue popped up as the third result. Intrigued, I clicked through to their website to discover that despite their name, this national chain clearly mark vegan options on their menus. So with some reservations about going anywhere with the word ‘barbecue’ in the name, I decided to give it a try.
