Vegan things in Tesco

I’m all about supporting local and independent vegan stores but I understand the reality for a lot of people means they rely on major chain supermarkets for their vegan products.

Places like Tesco have become especially helpful for picking up staples such as vegan cheese.

No shame in getting what you need as long as you do your best to be ethical when you can. We all try to do our best.

This is why I keep the info about the majors flowing on my blog and Instagram. Check out some of the items I saw in Tesco yesterday.

Have you tried any of the above? What do you think?

New vegan spreads

Here is some handy news for people looking for widely available and affordable vegan margarine.

Flora has released three new spreads and each one carries the trademark logo from The Vegan Society.

Check out the three new packs below.

The three spreads include avocado oil & lime, coconut & almond oil, plus walnut oil.

Of course some people are not interested in buying products owned by Unilever.

If you are looking for these new spreads, you can buy online from Tesco and OcadoTesco also have them in stores.

Have you tried any of these spreads? Did you like them?

Vegan fruit at Tesco

One obstacle for vegans doing their best to steer clear of animal derived ingredients in their food is the practice by supermarkets and fruit wholesalers to coat fresh fruit in wax for preservation. Wax made from insects.

But along comes giant UK supermarket chain Tesco with the surprise of the year. They have started to tell customers that they have commenced a program to coat their fruit with a vegan-suitable wax.

Check out this Twitter exchange.

That is some good news.

We do everything we can to avoid contributing to the demand of animal products but you have sometimes just gotta buy some fruit. This move by Tesco means one less thing we have to worry about. We can focus on their monopolising business practices instead!

Extra note: Josh has asked but we are yet to get an answer if we will be able to tell which fruit is coated in the vegan wax or if it is a guessing game.

Garlic bread and dough balls

Here’s a super quick blog post that might just have you making a rapid dash to your nearest Tesco.

You can now buy not only frozen vegan garlic bread from the UK supermarket chain, but also frozen vegan garlic dough balls.

I picked up a pack of each last night in a London Tesco Extra.

Tesco have #vegan garlic dough balls and garlic baguette in the frozen section!

Those fruit splits remind me of my childhood in Australia. I remember being on the beach, trying to eat this exact type of treat before it melted in the extreme heat.

Have you tried any of the dairy free frozen range at Tesco? Are the splits as good as they look?
