Vegan store celebrates one year

Imagine opening a vegan store and then the world economy… well, the entire world itself, goes into shutdown.

Iwtopia in Wales did just that and they are still here to tell the tale.

They are survivors.

Sue from Iwtopia reached out to me from her independent business in Aberystwyth to let me know they are still hanging in there. I was so bowled over, I just had to share with you all.

Iwtopia is a vegan shop and deli, meaning you can stock up on all your essentials AND treat yourself to some gorgeous-looking vegan treats.

Head on over to the Iwtopia Instagram account to see photos of all the fab stuff Sue and the team are serving up.

If Facebook is more your speed, be sure to follow the shop to stay updated and be inspired.

If Aberystwyth is home for you (or nearby), you can even shop online for delivery. Head on over to the Iwtopia website to find out opening times and delivery details.

You can see the exact location of Iwtopia thanks to Google Maps.

Tofurei (pronounced tofu rye) is a fabulous business located in the historic Norwich Lanes District of the East Anglian city. Not only is Tofurei an amazing deli with all manner of treats and drinks, it doubles as a micro soya dairy and supplier of tofu-making ingredients and tools.

Yes, there is also soft serve vegan ice cream!

Tofurei make all of their own soya milks freshly on site in their very own micro dairy, meaning you can stop in to buy flavoured or plain milk and milkshakes daily. If you fancy getting involved in tofu and milk making in your own kitchen, the store also sells everything you need including soya beans and coagulants.

The Norwich outlet is as famous for their sandwich and cake offerings as it is for their soya facilities. Check out some these stunning options.

New vegan UK business debuts this week

How would you like to be one of the first people in the UK to experience delicious handcrafted vegan food from a new UK business?

Get along to the Kent Vegan Festival (Saturday May 7, 2016) this weekend to meet talented chef and all round fabulous person, Steph Hinton.

Steph is about to launch her very own vegan deli but before she does, she is serving up mouthwatering aged cheese, raw cakes, succulent pulled jackfruit wraps, meat free sausage and much more this weekend at the festival.

I asked Steph to give us a little insight into what people can expect from her food stand this weekend, as well as her food philosophy that will power her 100% vegan deli when it opens later this year in Kent.

Here is what she had to say:

“I have been a qualified chef for just over 15 years now. I have travelled and worked around the world including top restaurants in New Zealand, Australia & the UK. I have worked for John Torode & Jamie Oliver (not that I like admitting that now!). I was originally trained as a pastry chef but have also learned all other culinary techniques including butchery and cheese making.

I became vegan through working at Fortify Café and worked closely with James to veganise the eatery. I now have a huge passion for vromage (vegan cheeze – you can’t take the chef-iness out of me!) and after finding out I have a severe gluten intolerance, my focus has shifted to inventing my own range of gluten free meat substitutes and breads.

My business will be a start up vegan catering company that is 100% gluten & refined sugar free, with the end goal of growing into a gourmet delicatessen that utilises organic ethical goods and ingredients wherever possible while working to a low waste ethos. I will be making healthy and wholesome food that tastes like you are ‘cheating’. My aim is to show people that free from vegan food can not only be accessible and affordable, but bloody tasty too!”

Check out Steph’s website here, like her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

I can’t wait to see how her artisan deli business develops over the coming months and I would love to see food photos from anyone fortunate enough to eat with Steph this weekend at the Kent Vegan Festival. You can find out all the details of the event and RSVP on Facebook.

Now, just for fun, here are some photos of the Kent Vegan Festival from last year.

100% vegan deli is INCREDIBLE

Say goodbye to your socks because this is going to knock them right off.

Do you all know I am from Australia? Well, it appears a hell of a lot has improved down under since I was last there and one of the most drastic changes is the emergence of this absolutely stunning vegan deli in Melbourne.

My buddy Dex sent me some photos today and I actually can’t believe how impressive this is. She explained in her email that Smith & Deli is the newly opened companion business called Smith & Daughtersa super hip 100% vegan restaurant in the inner city region of Fitzroy.

Dex was impressed by the selection of goods on offer in the deli including sandwiches, pastries, pantry staples and hot coffee.

Check out the photos below and book your flights. Melbourne, we are coming for your deli food!

Things are really looking up for Melbourne vegans. Last time I was in town, I had to stress about my vegan burger being fried on the same hotplate as a runny egg. Now they have a proper vegan deli with no compromises.

Seriously, the menu is on another level.

Good work, Australia. Now, if you could just do something about the detention centres.

Follow Smith & Deli on Instagram and like them on Facebook.

Mega vegan food super photo post

Gopal vegan deli in Barcelona

If you want to go to vegan food heaven, get your backside to Barcelona and walk straight into a fantastic vegan deli known as Gopal. I proclaim this to be the finest vegan food in the entire city and I might even be bold enough to declare it in my top 5 restaurants in the world.

This post is very thin on words because I want the photos to do the talking. It was also important to me to get this up in the same week that Gopal announced their expansion. Madrid is very shortly and very fortunately going to be exposed to the Gopal goodness.

But enough from me and my FGV mouth. Let’s head on inside the deli to drool over some of the food I’ve consumed during my stay in Barcelona.
