Best melting cheese?

Vegans are always on a mission to find the cheese with best melting qualities.

Is Violife the gold star winner in the UK?

Check out this sandwich I recently devoured. The Violife cheese was actually oozing out the sides as it melted. Is this the most meltable vegan cheese in the UK right now? Or do you have a preferred brand for when you need melted cheese in your life?

New vegan cheese in UK!

Nothing gets a plant-based motor running quite like news of new vegan cheese.

Buckle up, kids. This is a good one.

Probably the food highlight of Vegfest Brighton, Tyne Chease is a product range that is long overdue in the UK. This brand new company selling handmade vegan cheese is set to explode on the food scene following their official launch in May.

Tyne Chease, as the name would suggest, originates in the northeast of England. Varieties sold at Vegfest included Garlic & Herb, Aged Cashew, Original, Mustard & Ale and Smoked Paprika. People all over the show were raving about these vegan cheeses.

See our Garlic & Herb cheese wheel below. We showed little restraint once this had the first wedge carved from it.

Pizza Express

I think every vegan in the UK knows Pizza Express now offers a vegan, cheeseless pizza so I won’t go on about it for too long.

I popped into a nearby outlet (there are over 400 in the UK) to try the Pianta, the only pizza purposively made vegan by Pizza Express. The base is topped with spinach, chestnut mushrooms, pine kernels and artichokes, with a jumbo portion of fresh rocket piled on for good measure.

As all the doughs made by Pizza Express are vegan, I also indulged in a plate of dough balls with olive oil for dipping. I suggest stressing to your server how important it is the dough balls are brought to your table without the garlic butter.

My food was tasty and convenient.

What do you think? Do you eat with Pizza Express often?

Say vegan cheese

Every now and then something so revolutionary comes along, it turns the vegan world upside down. Vegusto is one of those things. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Vegusto display at VegFest 2011

During the last few months I have been enjoying a new vegan cheese range known as Vegusto. It isn’t easy to find in the UK but when you do get your hands on it, you won’t soon forget. The plant-based cheeses are made in Switzerland and are slowly working their way around Europe. I spoke with representatives at the recent Bristol VegFest who assured me they are toiling away with plans to get the range into health food stores around the UK as soon as possible.
