News has been announced today of a partnership between two of the biggest retailers on the planet.
Multiple news outlets are reporting on the new deal bringing Holland & Barrett outlets into already existing Tesco stores.
I visited my local Tesco Extra last week and was surprised that its NutriCentre had been shuttered, but it makes sense now. It seems all of these are to be turned into Holland & Barrett stores!
To be clear, I’m not excited about two arms of two multi-national corporations joining forces. However, I think it is rad that this move will drastically increase the range of vegan groceries available to people all over the UK. Holland & Barrett stocks amazing brands such as Fry’s, Tofurky and so many more. It’s terrific news for a lot of these independent vegan food companies as they will have a direct passage to one of the biggest retailers on the planet.
The first Holland & Barret inside a Tesco opened in Dudley yesterday and apparently more are set to open in the next few months in Watford, Coventry Arena, Newcastle, Cambridge and Gatwick. I expect if these prove popular, we will see a lot more in the near future.

Well, we are about to flex our collective plant-based consumer muscle once again to ensure the same vegan food options are available all over the UK… in Sainsbury’s!
What is this campaign all about?
Consumers choose foods free of animal products for many reasons. Scientific evidence suggests the production of plant-based food contributes significantly less to environmental damage and climate change than animal farming.
Many religions require devotees to adhere to meat and dairy free diets during certain celebrations. People often choose a diet free of animal products for ethical reasons as they don’t agree with modern factory farming methods. Health is another major factor. A plant-based diet is completely free from cholesterol.
With plant-based food choices becoming increasingly popular amongst UK consumers, it is time for major food suppliers such as Sainsbury’s to answer this call for more vegan choices in their aisles. Brands such as Quorn and Linda McCartney have monopolised veggie shelves in UK supermarkets but very few of their items cater to people who want animal-free food. Quorn and Cauldron have the biggest presence of any veggie brands in the UK. The trouble is, they are the same company and clearly have little interest in serving the vegan community. Most of their products are not animal-free and those that are, are not even labeled suitable for vegans.
We don’t want egg in our food. We want burgers, pops, pies, schnitzels, sausages, sausage rolls, chunky strips and everything else made by Fry’s Vegetarian because it is all vegan!

Rumours have been circulating for a while now about new products coming soon from vegan food manufacturer Fry’s Vegetarian. Here at the Haus of FGV we have been just as excited as the next vegan foodie and if the whispers we are hearing are correct, cruelty-free eaters the world over are going to be ecstatic.
After a concentrated email and telephone campaign waged by vegans all over the country, it appears Holland & Barrett have had a change of heart in regards to stocking Fry’s Vegetarian frozen vegan foods.
The story is still developing, but until we have more details all we can bring you is this brief statement from the website of the UK distributor of Fry’s, Beanie’s Health Foods:
The hiccough regarding pricing of our FRY’S products with Holland & Barrett has been resolved and therefore Holland & Barrett will soon be stocking the full range of FRY’S products within their stores with freezers.

A recent tweet from a FGV reader alerted me to the fact that UK High Street retailer Holland & Barrett will no longer be selling the Fry’s Vegetarian range of frozen food. This news is a huge shock for the UK vegan community. Fry’s produce the finest range of frozen vegan goods in the world. Holland & Barretthas over 500 stores in the UK, reaching millions of consumers up and down the country. Consumers who are now without easy access to a quality brand of cruelty-free foods.
