Your Sunday fry up

I’ve got news for you that you are going to love.

Check out these amazing vegan breakfast options served at Veg Bar every Sunday between midday and 3pm.
The top photo shows one of the best vegan fry ups in London. My plate last week was stacked with deliciousness, including handmade hash browns. Not sure anyone else in London is doing that.

You can also see the breakfast burrito Josh enjoyed. It was crammed with rice, tofu scramble and a whole host of ingredients. He adored it.

These items are only available between midday and 3pm on Sunday at Veg Bar at 45 Tulse Hill, Brixton.

Good news gets better…

My new day club called Rock Queer takes place in the downstairs club underneath Veg Bar every Sunday between 1pm and 7pm. We play a wide range of alternative rock tunes and the bar serves vegan beer, wine and cocktails.

You can fill your tummy upstairs and then join us downstairs for a few hours of awesome music and socialising.

Vegan restaurant in an airport

I’ve been vegan for almost 17 years and I’ve seen a lot of changes during that period.

I can remember going to my first vegan fair at Conway Hall in London back in 1999. Somebody gave me seitan and I recall being incredibly confused.

I think there was choice of just one soya milk we used to buy from Sainsbury’s back in my early vegan days. It was sweetened with apple juice! Cheezly was the only vegan cheese on the block and I had the feeling that eating vegan was going to remain an outsider concern for a long, long time.

Flash forward to 2015 and I am now blogging about a vegan restaurant outlet situated inside Los Angeles International Airport. Times have changed.

Following on from our vacation in Southern California recently, Josh and I were booked to fly out of LAX Terminal 4. This air travel hub just so happens to be the site of an outlet for legendary vegan food chain, Real Food Daily. Yep. A vegan food outlet inside an airport.

The photos below show my club sandwich that was stacked solid with seitan, tempeh and avocado. Josh’s ‘build your own bowl’ meal was filled with brown rice, seitan, marinated tofu and steamed kale.

Highly skilled food transportation

I’ve developed incredible skills when it comes to transporting chilled and frozen vegan food from one part of the planet to another.

You could be forgiven for thinking a flight from Los Angeles to London is too much time in the air for frozen food to make it back safely, not to mention the long periods at either end getting to and from airports.

But I’m FGV and nothing stands in my way when it comes to the food I love.

All of the goods you see below were frozen and wrapped in multiple plastic bags before being swaddled inside my favourite Harrington jacket and crammed into a suitcase.

Every single item made it back to my London home still frozen.

Check it all out below. I’m off to eat it all!

We did it!

A few days ago I put a call out to concerned vegans. A vegan food business took a knock (really) and I wanted to rally the troops and make a sizeable donation to help them back on their feet.

Guess what?

We reached the target set of £500 in just a few days. I have already transferred the funds over to Veg Instead, so hopefully the hungry vegans of Croydon will have their favourite street food back again soon.

Greg of Veg Instead wrote in response:

The response has been really touching and the money will be really helpful. Please say thanks to your followers on our behalf.

How lovely! Vegans helping vegan business. We did it.

In Istanbul

After telling you about the airline food from his flight there and his flight back, Josh has finally found time to write about his recent work trip to Istanbul and it sounds so amazing that I think I’ll be booking a ticket to go there myself. Read on to find out what Josh had to say:

Vegan music

Music is one of my great loves, as is veganism. How cool that I get to combine the two!

As you know (because I never shut up about it), I am taking Australian band Love Like Hate on the road around the UK this July. Animal Equality are joining us for the shows calling at Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow, Oxford and London.

The final night of the tour is taking place at 100% vegan restaurant and nightspot, Kabaret. Of course we will be giving massive love to Love Like Hate before they fly back to Australia, but I’ve added another band to this final show line up and believe me when I say you don’t want to miss out.

Colour Me Wednesday are a fab independent punk/indie/pop band from West London. To put it in simple terms: they are fucking awesome.

Check out this insanely enjoyable song and music video.

Colour Me Wednesday aren’t just pumping out killer tunes, they are also dedicated vegans with a distinct disliking of sexism. They are my type of people.

July 31, 2015 is serving up probably the best vegan value you are gonna get for many years to come. I’ll be hosting. Two vegan bands will be storming through the entertainment. Animal Equality will be selling merchandise and signing people up. A DJ will be taking over the stage following the bands. Buy your ticket in advance and you also get two EP downloads from Love Like Hate!

All of this for just £5. I’m not fucking kidding you. Just £5.

You gotta book a ticket today. We are using funds raised to pay for the UK tour so please encourage friends to grab some tickets, too.

If you can’t make it to the final London date but would like to support the Vegan Roadshow tour, visit our Indiegogo campaign page to make a donation. Every single donation helps.

New vegan cake in Brixton

I was stumbling away from Rock ‘n’ Roll Vegan Brunch yesterday when I noticed a new store situated just a few steps down Tulse Hill (five doors away from Veg Bar) in Brixton.

Health and Pastry looked to be a small health food store with some interesting groceries, so I popped in for a quick inspection.

To my complete surprise, I was greeted by the following sight.
