Buy vegan cheese and cakes in Camden

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I am involved with rolling out a new vegan market in central London and I’ve now got some news for you.

Tasty news!

Vegan Makers at Buck Street Market is starting small (sigh… COVID is making everything so tough) but the three traders we have lined up for you this week are top shelf.

Vegan Makers at Buck Street is a 4-day a week collection of traders located in the courtyard of Buck Street Market. You might have already seen this impressive complex made from shipping containers, just a few metres along Camden High Street from Camden Town Underground station. See the location thanks to Google Maps.

Our artisan market is starting small this week, but you can get along for some of the finest vegan products in the city. (Vegan Makers is on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 11am and 5pm)

What will you find this week?

Vegan Makers is now a permanent home for Honestly Tasty, the sensational vegan cheese company based in Wood Green.

Run by sister and brother team Beth and Mike, Honestly Tasty is quickly becoming the vegan cheese brand everyone is talking about. Mike trained in vegan cheesemaking in Berlin, so stop by their stall to talk about their interesting family story and to buy their game-changing cheeses.

You can also follow Honestly Tasty on Instagram.

You can’t have a Fat Gay Vegan market or trader get-together without Chanel and Cake Cult LDN.

In her previous incarnation as Vegan Delice, Chanel was the heart and soul of Hackney Downs Vegan Market. Her cakes, donuts, and tray bakes would bring people from all over London.

We expect Cake Cult LDN to be just as popular at Vegan Makers at Buck Street Market, especially with busy people on their lunch breaks.

Everything Chanel makes is delicious and I say that as an authoritative source, having eaten MANY items over the years.

You can also follow Cake Cult LDN on Instagram.

Have you been looking for vegan-friendly CBD oil?

Our third trader this week from Thursday until Sunday at Vegan Makers at Buck Street is Cosmic Oils.

Cosmic Oils specialise in high strength CBD oils and related products. Everything they do is homemade in London and of course it’s always vegan. You can also follow Cosmic Oils on Instagram.

Get along to from 11am this Thursday June 24, 2021. These traders will be in the courtyard of Buck Street Market Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week between 11am and 5pm.

You can follow Vegan Makers on Instagram for all the latest trader information each week.

If you need more reason to visit our traders (umm… vegan cheese and cake is not enough?), Buck Street Market is overflowing with vegan food options from their regular restaurants.

PRTZL is on the first floor and is home to 100% vegan burgers and hot dogs. Bad Vegan (on the top level but not 100% vegan hence the name I guess) is having their grand opening on Thursday June 24 and are even giving away free food. Magic Falafel is 100% vegan and they are also on the first floor. There are many other vegan options on site as well as just a few metres around the corner (Temple of Seitan and What The Pitta to name just two).

Buy cheese. Buy cake. Buy CBD oils. Support independent vegan traders.

Want to trade at a new vegan market in London?

It isn’t a stretch to say Hackney Downs Vegan Market was one of the most influential plant-based things to happen to London over the past 10 years.

The opening weekend welcomed approximately 5,000 people and the market acted as the launching pad for some of the most recognised vegan brands in the UK capital.

Ever since Hackney Downs Vegan Market came to an end, I’ve been thinking and dreaming of bringing another market to life.

It’s 2021 and I feel like it’s time to stop dreaming. I want to get a vegan market up and running again!

Fat Gay Vegan (that’s me) is teaming up with Buck Street Market on Camden Hight Street to launch a 5-day a week artisan market just for vegan products. Yes, that’s correct. 5-days a week, every week. The market will run 11am until 6pm from Wednesday until Sunday.

Vegan Makers at Buck Street is set to be a collection of stalls celebrating the best take home vegan products including deli items, cheese, pantry items homewares, clothing, candles, and personal products.

Located just a few steps from Camden Town Underground station on one of the busiest streets in the UK, Vegan Makers at Buck Street will be the most exciting place to shop in London for compassionate consumers.

Buck Street Market is a 3-level complex featuring rooftop bars, restaurants, street food, and shops. Vegan Makers will be in the central courtyard on street level, meaning our vegan stalls lead out to Camden High Street and are less than a 60-second walk from Camden Town Underground station.

Camden is undoubtedly the vegan centre of London and visitors to Buck Street will have a huge choice of places to dine in the area. Even though there will be no hot food on our market, Camden is simply overflowing with plant-based food outlets.

Buck Street Market itself is home to vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants and cafes, while legendary eateries Temple of Seitan and Purezza are only a 2-minute walk away (to name just two).

People can shop at Vegan Makers at Buck Street and then have the tough job of narrowing down the dozens of plant-based food choices in the neighbourhood.

The above photos shows what our stalls look like. They are white metal with folding doors on both sides, meaning traders can lock their stall at the end of each day and will only have to worry about transporting perishables each day. No clumsy stalls to pack up. No heavy gazebos to drag home.

Vegan Makers at Buck Street is a chance for vegan businesses and independent traders to have a mini shop in the heart of London without having to commit to huge rents and business rates. WiFi is available for traders to use for payment devices, while there will be limited electricity for some stalls.

This shopping district is one of the most desired in London and a spot in the Vegan Makers section will expose traders and brands to potentially tens of thousands of shoppers every day. Weekends on this street are particularly busy and a summertime coming out of lockdown means record numbers of shoppers are expected.

Examples of what we would love to see on the vegan market:

  • Cheese and deli items
  • Kombucha
  • Wine, spirits, and champagne to take home
  • Cake or patisserie
  • Personal care products
  • Zero waste
  • Candles and gifts
  • Cruelty free make up
  • Organic pantry items
  • Jewellery
  • Hats, shoes, sunglasses, and clothing

Vegan Makers at Buck Street plans to launch in June 2021.

We have great introductory rates for the first month (even lower if you commit to the full month). There is no market in Central London where you could trade in such a high profile spot at these prices.

If you are a trader and want more information about booking a stall, email josh@fgvpr.co.uk and he will fill you in. This market is for vegan products only and spots are offered for the full 5 days each week. There are no weekend-only spots.

PLEASE NOTE: there will be NO hot food or street food on the Vegan Makers section of Buck Street Market. There are many 100% vegan food spots in Camden right now and this artisan market has been designed to add value to the area for vegan visitors, not take away from businesses already in Camden.

DIY vegan Reuben sandwich kit

I am still recovering from the massive vegan feast I enjoyed thanks to Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner of Camden, London.

I wasn’t at the diner, but rather I had one of their impressive DIY kits delivered to my house as a gift from the much-loved food business.

Check out this amazing line up of ingredients that we used to recreate their peerless Reuben sandwich.

You can see the quality in that shot. Everything was simply perfection.

The DIY kit to recreate the Rudy’s Reuben contains:

Vegan seitan pastrami x2
Sliced cheeze x2
whole loaf rye bread 600g
Pickles
Sauerkraut
Grilled onions
Russian dressing
Parmesan dressing
Crispy onions

All of this for £18 (£1 of which is donated to Friend Farm Animal Sanctuary) means it is sensational value. Everything is artisan and we had enough for four sandwiches.

The packing was very thoughtful with recyclable plastic bags used, as well as cardboard and glass.

The DIY kit comes with an instruction card featuring a QR code that takes you to an instructional video online.

All the guesswork is taken out of the preparation!

Here is a shot of Gil watching the video before he made the sandwiches.

And the finished product?

Check it out.

I got this DIY Reuben kit as a gift but the truth is I wouldn’t even hesitate to buy this again legitimately for myself. If I had the money, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it.

Other DIY kits from Rudy’s include Broccoli Mac ‘n’ Cheeze, Dirty Burger, and Grilled Chick’n Caesar Burger.

Visit the online shop for Rudy’s right now to order your own kit.

And be sure to follow Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner on Instagram for all their latest news, including a new deli opening in Islington very soon!

Temple of Seitan opening in the heart of Camden

Temple of Seitan just doesn’t quit with the news.

Recently we heard about how the legendary London comfort food business made a huge distribution deal with a chain of pubs (I was happy and sad – read about that online here).

Now we have news this week of Temple of Seitan opening a new location on Parkway, smack bang in the heart of Camden. Vegan fried chicken for the win in Camden!

The new location replaces the Camley Street outlet (which recently closed) and keeps their number of London restaurants at two when you count the original Hackney Central joint.

The new Camden Temple of Seitan is opening on Thursday February 20, 2020 in the old Purezza vegan pizza restaurant location.

Purezza recently relocated to the space next door (keep up, people!) which you can read about online here. It is now three times the size it used to be.

Yay for Temple of Seitan and their new Camden digs. You can see the exact location thanks to Google Maps.

UK’s leading vegan pizza restaurant triples in size

Multi-award winning vegan pizzeria Purezza extends its Camden venue using recycled and eco-friendly materials.

Purezza, the UK’s first vegan pizzeria, is extending its Camden branch. The new branch will be one of the biggest vegan restaurants in the UK, and is the first part of the restaurant’s expansion plans for 2020.

Purezza’s Camden branch first opened in March 2018. The company, which also has a branch in Brighton & Hove, went on to win National Pizza of the Year following its London opening.

The new restaurant is three times bigger than its previous Camden branch. It boasts a new sheltered garden area with live plants adorning the walls, making it perfect for alfresco-style dining no matter the weather. It also has a large extended bar, where diners can enjoy a range of drinks and cocktails along with light nibbles such as Purezza’s famed vegan Cheese Dough Balls.

Purezza’s focus on sustainability in its food has extended to the build and interior of the new restaurant. Furniture is from both Purezza’s previous restaurant, and discarded items from other restaurants. The plaster on the walls is made using sustainable hemp. Upholstered furniture uses vegan leathers and inner foams made with recycled plastic bottles. Mirrors and lighting were made with recycled and reclaimed materials using sustainable methods of production. Purezza even used the flooring from their previous Camden restaurant for seating booths, and doors were sourced from an old chapel.

The restaurant has seen steadily growing demand, which it credits to the combination of growing interest in plant-based food and innovation, and its unwavering commitment to quality.

Tim Barclay, co-founder and co-owner of Purezza said “our flagship London restaurant has been struggling to keep up with demand throughout 2019. The single biggest complaint we receive is that it’s almost impossible to get a table most nights. It’s a good problem to have, but providing exceptional customer experiences is one of our core tenets at Purezza, and by tripling the size of our Camden restaurant we’ll be able to meet the demand.”

The new Purezza opens on 3rd February in Camden at 45-47 Parkway, NW1 7PN. Click here to see the exact location thanks to Google Maps.

Follow Purezza on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Book a table at the new Camden restaurant online here.

New vegan bakery for London

One of the most popular traders we have ever hosted at Hackney Downs Vegan Market is LuckyLek.

Nora was always drawing large crowds with her exquisite baked goods and her patisserie items were snapped up quickly by eager fans.

Nora and LuckyLek disappeared from our market lineup a while back but for very good reason.

London has a brand new vegan bakery now that Nora has teamed up with her friend Nama. Get ready to visit Nora & Nama: Vegan Bakery & Deli in Camden.

If you can see the photo above, you will see that Nora & Nama have extremely special menu items and expertly-crafted baked goods.

Customers will discover and adore cakes, celebration cakes, finger food, cookies, bread, canapes, pies, tarts, baked goods, starters, spreads, and gluten free options.

The bakery is located in Camden Market (unit 596-598 Camden Lock) and the grand opening celebration is taking place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December, 2018.

Click here to RSVP to the Facebook event for the opening weekend, follow Nora & Nama on Facebook and Instagram, and see their official website here.

New vegan pizza pockets in London

  • The Barbie: Pan fried chicken pieces with house BBQ sauce and cheese cheesy
  • Red Bianca: Creamy ricotta, broccoli and our family’s signature marinara sauce
  • Willy Wonky: Melty chocolate with peanut butter (warning: messy!)

ANOTHER vegan food joint in Camden

If I hadn’t seen the photos with my own eyes, I would have thought this story was made up.

You see, it’s getting tough to imagine how many more vegan eateries can be squeezed into Camden.

Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner is a recent addition to London and is located in The Stables section of Camden Market. You can get along every single day between 11am and 7pm.

The menu line up looks like a junk food vegan’s dreams come to life and I am especially drooling over those seitan buffalo wings wrapped around lemongrass sticks. I love it!

New vegan eatery in Camden

Hey, I just found out about a new vegan place to eat in Camden so I thought I should pass on the info.

The friendly Verena got in touch to let me know she has just opened this new food business on February 1, 2018 so it is super fresh.

This is what she had to say about Green Rhino:

The Green Rhino London is a proper sit down restaurant in Camden Town. We opened on the 1st of February this year. Our opening times are Thursday to Sunday from 5pm until 10pm. Our menu is small and simple because it’s just me at the moment but as soon as it gets busy I will be looking for helping hands.
Our idea of a regular vegan meal is plant based without many meat replacements or deep frying, so we offer a changing vegetable based soup that comes with wholemeal brown toast for £5.50. We also have two main courses for £8.50 each; a cauliflower and kidney bean stew in tomato sauce served with boiled new potatoes and a green crunchy side salad plus our vegetable medley with fresh veggies in a creamy coconut sauce served with brown rice and a couscous salad.
We try to keep the portions big to make sure everybody is full!
For the sweet tooth we have homemade vegan Snicker bars and muffins.

Sounds tasty and filling!

You can get along to Green Rhino at 25a Pratt Street NW1 0BG. Click here to see the exact location thanks to Google Maps.

You can follow Green Rhino on Instagram.

Now, let’s look at the food!
