Vegan in Earlsfield

If you think all the best London vegan food is in Hackney, I’m about to hip you to some news you can use.

Say hello to Amrutha Lounge.

Amrutha started life as a mobile food truck (which I wrote about here) but recently opened this permanent eatery in Earlsfield, SW London.

What do the founders say about their food?

Innovative vegan dishes and heart-warming classics are lovingly prepared on the premises by our chefs on a daily basis. The food is made from scratch with an emphasis on taking simple ingredients and elevating them to extraordinary levels, that’s our version of ‘Vegan Soul Food’.

You can follow Amrutha on Instagram. See the exact location thanks to Google Maps.

Now, let’s check out some food shots.

Tibits gets a new location

One of London’s top spots when it comes to vegan-friendly eating in a non-vegan spot is tibits.

This buffet-style eatery just off Regent Street has long been a hub for plant-based eaters. This might have something to do with most of their food being suitable for vegans, including delights such as sticky toffee pudding and a huge range of salads and pastas.

This month sees the opening of a second London version of tibits (if we don’t count the west London version that came and went very quickly years ago).

Fans of the serve-yourself restaurant can know fill up on their vegan options near the Tate Modern on the south side of the Thames.

The maps above shows the new location set to open this month (June 2017).

You can see all of the tibits locations over on their website, including the multiple restaurants spread around Switzerland.

Vegan restaurant NOT closed!

Remember when I told you Dou Dou in Camden was closed? You can see that original and hysterical post here.

The truth of the matter appears to be that the restaurant was closed temporarily for renovations.

Check out this update from Kellie:

As we came back home via London after the Vegan River Cruise, we happened by Camden and…whether to rub salt into my wounds or what…we decided to peak at the old Dou Dou…only to be very excited by the A-board out the front and the neon Open sign flashing!!

So apparently Dou Dou was closed for 3 weeks over Christmas for some renovations. Everything looked fairly similar / if not the same except perhaps for new tiles on the floor. There were some new faces and less staff than usual. It does make me wonder why they wouldn’t let people know (even if just by written sign on the door) that they were only temporarily closed?!

But…if renovations were in the works it perhaps suggests a more rosy picture than them struggling 🙂

Thanks for the good news, Kellie!

Vegan buffet

London vegetarian restaurant tibits has made quite a few vegans happy by making their food buffet completely vegan after 11:30am until closing every Tuesday.

The popular restaurant just off Regent Street in Central London must be seeing the benefits of this change as they are repeating the vegan takeover across both days of this weekend (Oct 31/Nov 1, 2015).

Check out this statement from the tibits website:

HALLOWEEN AND WORLD VEGAN DAY (31 OCT AND 1 NOV)

It’s the start of the party season and to celebrate we’re going Vegan for Halloween and World Vegan Day*. We’d love you to join us for a weekend of feasting and celebration!

If you’re gearing up for a night of ghouls, ghosts, and Halloween parties, tibits is the perfect spot – there’s undoubtedly something on the food boat that you’ll enjoy sinking your fangs into.

And the following day is World Vegan Day, and the start to World Vegan Month. It’s a great opportunity for the already vegan and the vegan curious to gather and have some fun.

*from 11.30 am

Anyone heading down to tibits to eat vegan this weekend?

Let’s hope this is a sign that tibits plan to switch to being a full time vegan restaurant in the near future. It is LONG overdue.
