Legendary vegan burger trader opens store

If you know anything about the London vegan street food scene, you will be aware of Big V London.

Big V is a superstar vegan burger business with multiple locations scattered around markets, including a weekly spot at Hackney Downs Vegan Market. Their burgers are the stuff of legend, lighting up social media every time they make an appearance.

Not satisfied with multiple street market locations each week, Big V owner Jill has taken the leap into the world of running a permanent burger bar every night on site at Exmouth Coffee Roasters in Whitechapel.

Open 7 nights a week from 6pm until 10pm, they have started with their full burger menu with fries and a mayo dipping menu. The business will slowly add more items over the coming weeks.

In addition to the incredible Big V burger menu, they are serving the wonderful Hell.Yum! ice cream (another Hackney Downs Vegan Market regular), FIX8 kombucha on tap, and sodas by Dalston.

You can see the exact location of the new, evenings-only Big V burger bar thanks to Google Maps. They are just a few steps from Aldgate East Underground station.

Be sure to follow Big V London on Instagram for latest updates.

Tegan the Vegan London

Being half a world away in Mexico City for half of every year means I miss out on a lot of incredible vegan food developments in London.

Of course I’m reporting as much as I possibly can, but I can’t physically get my greedy hands on a lot of the new and interesting stuff. If I’m completely honest, it does lead to a slight case of FOMO.

Take Tegan the Vegan for instance.

Tegan has been burning up the east London vegan scene for a little while now, but I’m yet to taste any of her amazing-looking food due to my globetrotting ways.

You can find Tegan the Vegan getting involved in all manner of events around the UK capital (and sometimes slightly further afield) and everyone I know who has tried her treats can’t stop raving about her skills. Tegan seems to have something very special going on.

There is often a weekly cake and vegan cheese menu posted via the Tegan the Vegan Facebook page and if you live in her catchment area, you can place an order for home delivery.

Check out this sample menu below.

OK. Before I make myself completely starving and jealous, let me give you a few links so you can get involved with this vegan food business on the rise. Get in on the ground floor before Tegan is recognised as London’s next vegan superstar!

Like Tegan the Vegan on Facebook. Follow Tegan the Vegan on Twitter and Instagram.

Now I’m going to spoil you with one of my favourite photos from Tegan’s Facebook page. Enjoy.

Extra note: Tegan’s incredible logo was created by Alex Bertram-Powell. See his art here.

Vegan Thai Food on Brick Lane

Post by:

josh panel

UPDATE: I just heard from Konnie, the founder of this business who explained that it is actually called Thai Vegan Food not Happy Moo Ping. I was mistaken as the latter is what the website URL redirects to and how the ‘meet the chef’ section of the website refers to the business. Either way, check out the delicious-looking photos….

It’s amazing what you can find out on Instagram! I recently discovered a new vegan Thai food stall called Happy Moo Ping Thai Vegan Food which is a regular feature on Brick Lane in East London. I reached out to them to find out more about who they are and what exciting food plans they have but I never heard back from them. Regardless, I’m going to go and see them when I get back to London next month as the food looks delicious! Check out their pics…

Freakshakes go vegan in London

You have probably read this all over the Internet, but I’m here with a reminder.

Vegan freakshakes are going to be served from TOMORROW (Tuesday May 31, 2016) at The Canvas Café in London.

What is a freakshake? Check it out.

canvas

The Canvas Café describe these supercharged shakes as follows:

Each gorgeous freakshake made at The Canvas Cafe is made from scratch in our kitchen. Our homemade ice cream is created with coconut milk, which we blend with soya milk to create our scrumptious milkshake.

Then, we take a raw, vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free homemade cake – you’ll see raspberry / beetroot, coconut / matcha, and chocolate / avocado. The raw base of each cake is made with dates and nuts. This cake sits on top of whipped coconut milk, and is topped with a variety of flavour-filled sauces such as cranberry / raspberry, homemade vegan nutella, and chopped pistachios.

Like what you see?

Visit The Canvas Café online to find out more and get their details.

Restaurant ditches meat, becomes 100% vegan

Hold on to your faux feather stuffed fedoras, London.

An Italian restaurant has ditched meat and dairy entirely from its menu, becoming a 100% vegan pizza, calzone and pasta specialist in the process.

I have been raving about the vegan options at FED by Water for a long time. The East London restaurant has developed a reputation for having some of the finest vegan food on the planet and their calzone alone makes me happier than almost any food on the planet. Even as an omni restaurant they excelled in using seitan and vegan cheeses in order to create mouthwatering Italian delicacies.

IMG_7117

FED by Water really have taken care of us plant eaters, supplying us with our own incredibly-extensive vegan menu that was actually mind-boggling.

But now everything is vegan. EVERYTHING!

I’m shocked and delighted. I reached out to Fabio at FED by Water to find out what powered this monumental change and this is what he had to say:

After almost 2 years running FED BY WATER with multiple options as a way to leverage on the omni/veggie menu to educate people to veganism, last weekend we decided time has come to cut off meat, fish and diary options completely and focus only on 100% plant based Italian gourmet. We will still educate people to veganism but without the “safe” options for omni customers to rely on as their primary choice.

I have to admit it is working well and non-vegans are quite relaxed in trying out other options. It helps that it is all delicious. The label vegan might scare some people off but luckily our new team (fully vegan also) is putting a lot of effort into educating the public about the revolutionary culture we have been embracing and pushing forward. So… VEGAN is LIFE!

I don’t know about you, but this is some of the best news I’ve heard in years.

100% vegan Italian restaurant serving meat/cheese platters, calzone, pizzas, bread bowls, pasta, raw pasta and so much more? It’s a dream come true.

Get to the FED by Water website, like the restaurant on Facebook, follow them on Twitter and visually devour their posts on Instagram.

And when you stop by for a meal, tell them FGV is back in town come July so they’d better be ready!
