Vegan Yorkshire Puddings in London

If you have been vegan for any length of time, you will probably understand the sadness of missing out on Yorkshire puddings. You can find yourself surrounded by roast potatoes, mountains of vegetables, gravy and all sorts of exciting plant-based centrepieces, yet there is one familiar feature missing from the plate.

For years, finding a genuinely good vegan Yorkshire pudding has been one of those frustrations that comes with being vegan. It seems almost absurd when you stop to think about it because Yorkshire puddings are not some mysterious food requiring a secret ingredient that can only be sourced from Emmerdale farm.

A traditional Yorkshire pudding is essentially a simple batter made from flour, eggs and milk, cooked in hot fat until it puffs up into a combination of crispy edges and soft, fluffy middle. Obviously, eggs and dairy are not vegan, but the basic idea can be recreated with plant-based ingredients.

And somehow us vegans have been taking our sweet time when it comes to making Yorkies a staple of our plant-based Sunday dinners.

But things have changed in London.

Watch England Game in London Vegan Pub

I’m not a football fan.

It’s not that I’m against the sport, but I am just not interested. I’m more of a tennis person. I could sit for hours as people hit balls to and fro on my screen, but a team of humans kicking a little round ball does nothing for me.

Best Vegan Sunday Roast In London?

As a long time vegan, I can recall the wilderness years when there wasn’t a decent Sunday dinner option in all of London. These were dark times of hearing other people rave about Yorkshire puddings drenched in gravy while us plant-munchers were left attempting to create our own versions at home.

I grew up in Australia which meant not being familiar with the concept of a roast dinner served in the middle of the day, so when I first moved to London in 1998 I was instantly intrigued by this concept.

And Sunday roasts are a tough thing to avoid in London. Pubs, carveries, and restaurants all shout about this very British meal which left me feeling a tiny bit isolated as a vegan.

Fast forward to 2025 and there is some stellar news for people interested in Sunday roast culture but who don’t want to hurt any animals in order to participate.

Say hello to this gorgeous plate of food being served weekly in east London.
