New Podcast: Episode 39

The latest episode of Tell Me Where I’m Going (Wrong) podcast is out now for your listening or watching (dis)pleasure.

Episode 39 already? Wow! How time flies when your creating a low-effort DIY podcast with your ex-partner who is still one of your best friends.

In this latest episode, Josh and I talk about the culture of toxic masculinity with special attention given to misogynists masquerading as influencers. I hate to say their names but people like Russell Brand and Andrew Tate.

There are some light hearted topics as well because we don’t want it to all be doom and gloom.

My First Ever Instagram Post Was a Beautiful Disaster

I’ve just realised something both hilarious and heartwarming.

My first ever Instagram post was made all the way back on 27 May, 2013. That means I have been faffing about on the app for nearly 12 years. A dozen years of food pics, community updates, bad choices, and thankfully not too many selfies.

But here is the twist. My blog actually started in December 2010. That is two and a half years of vegan ramblings online before I ever even thought to open the Instagram app. Why did it take me so long?

Veganism Is More Than What We Eat

I have said it before and I will most definitely say it many, many more times.

Veganism is more than what we eat.

While plant-based eating gets the most attention, a comprehensive and effective vegan lifestyle is about living in a way that seeks to avoid harm to animals in all areas of life.

Starting your vegan journey usually starts for most of us by swapping out meat and dairy, but it is important to acknowledge that compassionate living goes well beyond what is on our plates.

Creating Safer Vegan Social Spaces

Earlier today, a group of us who organise vegan social events got together for a conversation about something that’s been on our minds for a while.

We care deeply about the community we’ve built and the spaces we co-create, and we know that with that comes a responsibility to make them safer, more welcoming, and free from the harmful patterns we see out in the wider world.

I’m always thrilled when a vegetarian spot quietly evolves into something even more fabulous and that seems to be exactly what’s happened with KIN in London’s Fitzrovia.

These days you’ll find not just one but two KIN locations sitting pretty next door to each other, with a café and a restaurant both with fully plant-based menus!

Vegan Coffee Shop In Chiswick

West London has a bit of a lousy reputation when it comes to vegan food. For years, the majority of plant-based businesses have been concentrated over on the east side of London while the other side of the city went without.

But that has all changed with this 100% vegan coffee shop sat on Chiswick High Road.

New Podcast: Episode 38

The podcast this week takes an even more personal turn than usual.

Josh and I chat about our individual struggles with overeating, mental health, trauma, and the reality of turning to medication for help.

It’s not a lighthearted conversation so please go into it prepared. I’d love to hear about your own experiences managing similar issues if you feel comfortable sharing in the comments.

Black Cat Café Lives On

There are some places that mean more than just good food. They become part of your everyday. Your weekend routine. Your community. Black Cat Café in Hackney has been one of those places for me for years.

You can imagine how gutted I was when the vegan café closed for a spell after original team Carla and Nacho made the decision to leave London. For a while, it was unclear what would happen. The shutters came down. The building sat quiet.

But now for the good news. Black Cat is back.

If you’ve been around these parts a while, you’ll know I’ve got a soft spot for independent food stores that go the extra mile for plant-based shoppers.

And if you know me REALLY well, you’ll know that Out Of This World in Leeds has a very special place in my heart.
