Turkey to London British Airways meal

Josh is back with another airline meal report from his recent trip to Turkey. He already filled you in on his inflight meal on the way there and soon he’ll have a full report about vegan offerings in Istanbul. In the meantime read all about his meal on the way back…

Sad news

Josh and I are currently in San Diego visiting friends and dropping in on some of our favourite eateries.

We took a drive yesterday to one of the best (the best?) vegan fast food outlets on the planet, only to find a strange scene playing out in the parking lot.

As we pulled up to Evolution, we noticed a swarm of work trucks in the lot and people hurrying about cleaning and washing equipment. My heart sank as it looked as though my favourite place to eat in San Diego had closed down.

The truth is even more upsetting.

LA update

I’ve woken early on the morning of the 6th annual Los Angeles Vegan Beer & Food Festival due to jet lag. My body is struggling to adjust to the time difference on this trip. I want to sleep when I shouldn’t and can’t when I should.

I’ll take advantage of this early rise to update you on a few of the gorgeous food experiences I’ve had here in California.

Hope you’ve eaten already.

LHR to LAX

They had my vegan meal for me on my shared British Airways/American Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Los Angeles. Yep, they had it for me alright.

The problem was it just wan’t very exciting. My latest vegan airline meal was in fact so dull, I’ve spruced up this blog post about it by including photos I took of Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean on my inflight entertainment screen.

See the dreary food and fabulous Hollywood stars below.

Plane labelling

I love sharing tales of airplane meal glory and sorrow with you all. The stories always get a huge response and I think it taps into an experience with which most vegans can relate… being stuck somewhere with nothing to eat.

The latest instalment of Food In The Air comes courtesy of my partner, Josh, who just enjoyed this meal service between London and Istanbul.

Check out Josh’s meal below and then keep scrolling to find out what he has to say about it.

Best on the planet

Vedge.

There is nothing else.

Of all the vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants I’ve eaten with during my time on this planet, nothing comes close to capturing the delight of food quite like Vedge of Philadelphia.

If you are interested in plant-based dining at its finest, you need to make sure Vedge is on your bucket list, in your 3-year plan or somehow scheduled into your not-too-distant future.

Owners Kate Jacoby and Rich Landau have created a food paradise where subtle flavours and unique ingredients join forces to create a melt-in-your-mouth tour de force. If that sounds like hyperbole, you are clearly one of the unfortunate few yet to step foot inside the award-winning Locust Street eatery. Those who have dined with Vedge might very well think I am not employing sufficient superlatives in my description.

I have dined with Vedge on three occasions over the years and I am constantly scheming and plotting my return. If anyone asks you if you know FGV’s favourite restaurant in the world, tell them Vedge.

Before I launch into the photos from my recent visit, I want you to take a moment to follow Vedge on Twitter and like the restaurant on Facebook.

Now, visual proof of my fine dining experience.

Frozen

The last few days of any vacation in the USA is a fraught time, but it has nothing to do with trying to squeeze in last minute sightseeing.

The drama revolves around shopping for perishables and freezing them for the flight back to the UK. Does anyone else do this? I can’t be alone.

Arriving home with a case full of frozen food is a fabulous way to extend the joy of your holiday. Even when you are back in the grey UK, your vacation lives on through a freezer full of vegan groceries.

Check out the photos of the haul that made it back with me from New York City a few weeks ago.
