Temple of Seitan in the North

I’ve been helping legendary London restaurant Temple of Seitan for a little while now and the most common comments I see from customers when I’m hanging around their social media have to do with the North of the UK.

People really want to see a Temple of Seitan location up North.

I’m sorry if I got you excited and made you think there is now a full location of the famous food chain in the North, however you can buy and eat Temple of Seitan in Manchester, Leeds, and Liverpool as part of their collaboration with Yard & Coop.

Yard & Coop is not a vegan restaurant chain, so please use caution if you go sniffing around their website. You could stumble across animal-derived foods.

The vegan offerings however ARE gorgeous-looking and they all use Temple of Seitan chick’n.

Visitors to Yard & Coop can choose between:

AbraKEBABra – seitan with sweet pickled cabbage, diced tomato, minted yoghurt, chilli sauce, pickle chilli and crisp fries wrapped in pitta. All Veganuary dishes are served with a portion of fries

Karen’s Doing Veganuary – Temple of Seitan tenders accompanied with crispy bacon, street slaw, lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce and vegan mayo

Massive Vegan Cock Burger – a 12″ plant-based version of the original Yard & Coop Massive Cock dish. Standing at 30cm tall, piled high with Temple of Seitan tenders, 2 hash browns, salt and pepper cauliflower, and street slaw. There’s also vegan bacon, cheese slices, lashings of chilli and mint yoghurt, iceberg lettuce, fresh tomato, gherkins, and red onion topped with a seitan wing perched on top. This monster is all crammed within a vegan brioche bun with loads of fries.

These Veganuary specials will not be around forever (until February 6, 2022) so if you are interested, get along to Yard & Coop in Manchester, Leeds, and Liverpool ASAP.

You can get all store location info as well as links for ordering delivery on the Yard & Coop website.

You can follow Temple of Seitan on Instagram.

Now, let’s keep hoping for that permanent Temple of Seitan location in the North!

Vegan junk food in Leeds

It has been quite a while since I visited Mog’s in Leeds, so I thought it would be the right time to remind everyone about this 100% vegan junk food joint.

Mog’s started life as a vegetarian and vegan eatery a few years back. In 2018 it became a fully vegan restaurant and then got itself some new management in 2019.

What can you expect to eat at Mog’s in 2020?

The menu is packed solid with comfort food such as burgers, chickn dinners, coleslaw, gravy, wraps, and fries.

Check out some of these images.

Reviews online show people raving about Mog’s, so I think that means you should get there as soon as possible.

You can see the exact location of Mog’s online thanks to Google Maps.

You should follow Mog’s on Instagram.

New vegan joint in York

How many reasons do you need to adore the northern English city of York?

There are pubs named after torture devices. They have haunted buildings all over the place. A cholera burial ground greets you as you exit the train station.

York is one of my favourite places on the planet!

If all of these glorious, creepy facts aren’t enough to get your rushing there, maybe this news of a new vegan döner and cocktail restaurant will have you making plans for a York visit.

Leeds Queer Film Festival serves vegan food

Are you in Leeds this week?

If you are, you should get along to some the screenings taking place as part of Leeds Queer Film Festival 2019… and not just for the films!

In excellent news, all of the food served during the festival is vegan.

First things first. Let me share the aims of the festival:

We create spaces to showcase queer cinema with a focus on independent and DIY films. We screen films that elevate and prioritise the voices and work of those most marginalised within our LGBTQ+ communities. LQFF is run by unpaid volunteers and we are not for profit; money raised from our festival goes towards future events and supporting queer filmmakers. We aim to make our events as friendly, affordable, accessible and inclusive as we can. By bringing people together and building links, we hope to strengthen our communities.

Now, what about the food?

All the food is vegan and all the food is EXTREMELY inexpensive. Snacks are usually £1 while a hot meal will set you back between £2 and £3. Devour cakes, samosas, sausage rolls, hot dogs, soup, and curry. There will also be hot and cold drinks.

The festival is unfunded so they rely on selling food to make a little bit of money. The more you eat, the more you’re supporting the future of the festival!

Leeds gets super vegan

Hey, friends.

The UK has been undergoing a vegan transformation over the past five years or so, but there was one large city that seemed to be on the back foot.

Leeds.

Now, I’m not disparaging Leeds. I love the place. I used to live in the Yorkshire city and it has a special place in my heart, but it has documented that the vegan offerings had been thin on the ground while other places such as Manchester and Glasgow flourished.

But all this has changed in recent times and my trip to Leeds this week has left me delighted with the gorgeous plant-based options that have sprung up all over town.

Take a look at some of the vegan delights I sampled in Leeds this week and start planning your weekend now!

Best in Leeds

If you need proof that the UK is now a serious vegan food contender on the world stage, get along to Leeds and eat with El Marchador Tacos.

It will be one of the best eating experiences you will have.

El Marchador is a fully vegan and gluten free eatery in the heart of Leeds. The menu is packed solid with absolutely mouthwatering Mexican cuisine and the tacos are the finest I’ve tasted outside of Mexico.

In addition to the incredible food line up, the venue also hosts an impressive line up of tequilas and craft beers. Of course the bar is entirely vegan, too.

Follow El Marchador on Instagram and see the exact location of the cantina thanks to Google Maps.
