Would you like Fry’s with that?

This is going to be controversial but it needs to be announced… Fry’s Vegetarian products are the ultimate faux-meats available on the global market. I can’t take them fighting words back.

Chicken-less bagel made using Fry's Vegetarian Chicken Style Strips

Fry Food Group is a company owned and operated by Debbie and Wally Fry. They create a huge range of meat-free foods and in my opinion are unmatched for quality, range and taste. The company operates an eco-friendly production facility in South Africa where they promote best environmental practice such as employing people who walk to work and the installation of a water treatment system. Debbie and Wally are committed vegetarians and all of their scrumptious products are certified vegan. Cue the food. You know you want to.

Chicken-Style Strips and Blue Dragon vegan Sweet Chilli

The Fry’s range is impressive and daunting. When faced with a store freezer full of their finery it can be  a hard task narrowing down your selection. My all time favourites have to be the Chicken-Style Nuggets and Traditional Sausages. Both items are superb and probably the best store-bought meat substitutes I have tasted. Other items to savour include Original Hot Dogs, Golden Crumbed Schnitzel, Traditional Burgers, Slicing Sausage and Beef Style Strips. I could go on. The photo above shows a snack I created using the Chicken-style Strips, Blue Dragon vegan Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce and the plain, vegan bagels from the New York Bakery Co™. I scattered some leftover Daiya Cheddar Style Shreds on top for good measure. The strips were succulent and soaked up the sauce beautifully.

If you want vegan food from a compassionate and forward-thinking family company, get acquainted with Fry’s Vegetarian as soon as possible. You will be delighted, I promise.

p.s. I have seen Fry’s on sale in Australia and the UK. I have heard reports of USA sightings.

p.p.s. The chicken-style strips are featured due to a reader request. If you would like to see me feature a product, leave a comment below or on Twitter.

  6. I absolutely love the Fry’s chicken-style strips with a glug of Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce: just make sure to fry it in the pan so it starts to catch and caramelise a little. I work for Blue Dragon, so was already a convert – I like to serve my Fry’s along with some stir fried veggies (with vegetarian oyster sauce or ketjap manis) and brown rice. totally lush.
