Vegan mega venue in Sheffield

Have you all heard about Church, the new mega vegan venue is Sheffield?

A few week ago I reported on legendary vegan eatery Make No Bones closing up their old location in preparation for moving to a new spot.

Well, the new spot is open and it is taking the city by storm.

Say hello to Church.

Church is much more than just a vegan restaurant, although when it’s Make No Bones doing the cooking you really don’t need any other motivation to visit.

Located in the Neepsend area of Sheffield, Church houses the following:

  • the Church bar serves beers, wines and their unique spin on classic cocktails
  • as mentioned, Make No Bones serve their legendary cuisine from 10am until 9pm daily
  • Church is also a live music and event space
  • a selection of items from the Drop Dead fashion label are sold on site
  • it is also an arcade bar featuring games and consoles

Church is certainly getting lots of praise online from satisfied punters and the venue is also drawing a lot of attention from music fans due to the fact it is owned by Oliver Sykes of band Bring Me The Horizon.

Congratulations to Oliver, Make No Bones, and the entire Church team for bringing this incredible venue to life.

You can follow Church on Instagram and see the venue’s exact location online thanks to Google Maps.

EXTRA NOTE: Church is located just a few steps from where we host Sheffield Vegan Beer Fest each year. You can buy tickets for that event online here.

Vegan cafe in Bradford

This blog post started life thanks to my partner Josh saying to me, “Hey, there is a new vegan cafe in Bradford and the menu looks amazing”.

So, I’m here to tell you about The Willow Tree Cafe located in Saltaire, Bradford but I thought it would also be amusing to give you an insight into how a short blog post like this can take me more than an hour to put together.

Following on from Josh’s statement, I felt it was my duty to at least understand where exactly Saltaire is positioned on a map. This task also found me comparing distances from Saltaire to major cities and towns in the region. I discovered that Saltaire is twice the driving distance from Manchester as it is from Leeds.

Once I was satisfied that I could place Saltaire geographically, I decided that it would be nice to know a little bit of history. I soon found myself wrapped up in the life and times of the mill and the town’s namesake, Sir Titus Salt. Yep, his name was joined with the River Aire to form the town’s name.

I am now obsessed with the fact that Saltaire is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town was built as a Victorian model village in 1851 and all of the buildings are now protected.

This is how ridiculous writing one single blog post can be for me… and I do this every single day of the year!

Because I am now in love with Saltaire, I’m even more thrilled to know about The Willow Tree Cafe situated on Fairfield Road.

The menu is absolutely stunning and I’m particularly impressed by the Sunday roast consisting of seitan beef, roasties, maple roasted root veg, greens, Yorkshire pudding, and lashings of homemade beef style gravy.

Do yourself a massive favour and get in for some tasty comfort food.

Now, do you wanna see some vegan food being served up in a UNESCO World Heritage Site village?

BIG NEWS out of Leeds.

Comfort food eatery MOG’S located on Kirkstall Lane has taken the plunge and will become 100% vegan starting this week.

MOG’S is famous in Leeds for serving up decadent wraps, burgers and breakfast plates. They have always had a super strong vegan offering but used to sell animal products.

That is all about to change with a menu revamp that is completely plant-based.

Vegan eatery coming to Doncaster

Doncaster!

Yes, Doncaster.

If you are unfamiliar with this northern town, Doncaster is situated in Yorkshire just about an hour south of Leeds.

I’ve been to Doncaster a few times in my life and I never remember anything close to a vegan restaurant existing in the town. In fact, I would not have named Doncaster if you asked me to list unlikely locations that would soon have a vegan eatery.

So, I am thoroughly delighted and pleasantly shocked to hear about the soon to launch The Greenhouse Eatery.

The Greenhouse Eatery has been sharing food teasers for a few weeks ahead of their highly anticipated launch night on Valentine’s Day.

The set menu launch dinner taking place on this loved up day has actually sold out for the later sitting, but if you HURRY you can book some spots for the 6:30pm meal. Click here to see this special menu on Facebook.

Before I share some of the glorious food photos from this new vegan eatery, please take a moment to follow The Greenhouse on Instagram and Facebook.

Vegan food trike in Sheffield

This is some fabulous, old school vegan news.

Sheffield has a vegan food trike operating in the city centre, selling stacked burgers featuring potato waffles. Yes. Potato waffles inside your burger bun!

No Meat Today UK commenced trading in December 2017 but I’ve only just heard about it thanks to my Sheffield spy on the ground, Jez (who works at Incredible Nutshell and admins the Sheffield Vegan & Vegetarian Facebook Group and always has the best news for me).

The new burger trike takes me back to when this sort of trading was extremely popular for vegan businesses. Heck, there was even a vegan hot dog trike in my hometown of Australia about a decade ago.

For some reason, the trike gave way to regular street market stalls so I’m thrilled to see No Meat Today bringing it back.

The No Meat Today social media accounts seem to be just warming up so help get things kicking along by following them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Family owned vegan café in York

If you read my ramblings around these parts often, you will know that I love to sing the praises of independent vegan businesses.

I believe it is crucial that we not only use our consumer choices to help reduce harm to animals, we also need to spend our money (when we can) with independently owned vegan businesses in our local areas.

Instead of our money being swept away by multi-national corporations with little or no interest in our neighbourhoods, the money we spend with independents is then put back into the community.

These business owners buy local as well. Their families spend local. The money stays in the town, city, and region.

With all of that said (again), I want to tell you about a fabulous vegan café in the northern England city of York.

True Story is a family-owned vegan café serving up tasty, nutritious vegan food to their community. The café has a stunning view of the Minster and is even available for private hire and functions.

Follow True Story on Instagram and Facebook, then check out the photos below.

Support independent local business. Eat here when you are in York.

Best in the UK gets better

If you haven’t been there, you will just have to take me at my word when I tell you Make No Bones is one of the best vegan food providers on the planet.

It is definitely in the top 5 for Europe.

I wanted to update you with some of their cuisine from my visit yesterday. I have never eaten anything with them that wasn’t superb. Even their fries are a work of art.

Follow Make No Bones on Instagram and the check out the photos from my visit below. The seitan BBQ ribs are otherworldly.

Vegan café in Hebden Bridge

You need proof that vegan food and the vegan lifestyle are both sweeping the UK?

Check out this incredibly cute vegan café that has recently opened in the West Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge. The population of this gorgeous location is around 4,500.

The food menu sounds like a dream come to life.

There are full English breakfasts, main meals, pancakes with syrup, drinks, cakes, and so much more. I need to shift some plans around to make space for a trip to this new vegan business as soon as possible.
