Glorious London venue for vegan events

If you are looking for a gorgeous new venue in London that only supports vegan events, 10 Cable St is for you.

10 Cable St is a new vegan venue in London E1. A former pub known as The Horns and Horseshoe, this was the first public house in London to ban segregation. It started welcoming customers from all ethnic minorities in 1949.

It has been lovingly restored, keeping many of the original features while creating a light, bright, airy and tranquil space. They hosts a wide range of workshops, classes, supper clubs and events based around the themes of food, design and wellbeing and also invite others who shares this vision to collaborate or to host their own events. Yes, get in touch with 10 Cable St if you are a vegan chef or event planner.

I asked founder Moko what the philosophy was behind opening a vegan events space in central London. Here is what I was told:

At 10 Cable St, we think that it’s important to consider the wider impact of the things we do on a daily basis. From the food we eat, to the things that we buy and the products we use, minimising the impact on our bodies and the planet is always at the forefront of our minds. We aim to use only natural, plant-based ingredients in the dishes that we serve and, where we can, we source locally and use organic products. This way, we know where our food has come from and that the impact of getting it from ground to plate has been minimal.

If you want to ask about hosting your own vegan event in this beautiful space, get in touch with Moko via the 10 Cable St website.

If you are interested in keeping updated with all the wonderful events taking place at 10 Cable St, follow the venue on Facebook and Instagram.

100% vegan pub food menu

If you enjoy the idea of a 100% vegan pub food menu, then you really need to get to The Peacock in Nottingham.

This local pub situated about 200km north of London (for those unfamiliar with UK geography) is all about serving up mouthwatering vegan pub food 7 days a week.

Check out the stunning menu just released last week.

I don’t even know what to start singing the praises of first.

Pakoras. Seitan wings. Fish and chips. All day breakfast. Sunday roast. Ribwich. My head is spinning from this menu… and it’s all vegan!

Food is served at The Peacock between midday and 3pm and then 5pm until 8pm every day, except Sunday. Sunday hours are midday until 4pm. Click here to see where the pub is located thanks to Google Maps.

Follow The Peacock on Facebook and Twitter.

Yay for vegan pub food!

Grilled cheese this weekend

London, you have something very special happening this weekend and you must put a reminder in your phone NOW.

Decadent comfort food superstars Joey’s Kitchen will be back at The Boiler House on Brick Lane this weekend (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June, 2017) with a spectacular menu.

Check it out.

OK, so grilled vegan cheese sandwiches are fabulous in their own right but look at all of those extras you can add. Bacon bits! Jackfruit! Seitan!

Of course you would also have to make room for a slice of the baked cheese cake.

Follow Joey’s Kitchen on Instagram and let me know if you get your hands on a sandwich this weekend.

New vegan spreads

Here is some handy news for people looking for widely available and affordable vegan margarine.

Flora has released three new spreads and each one carries the trademark logo from The Vegan Society.

Check out the three new packs below.

The three spreads include avocado oil & lime, coconut & almond oil, plus walnut oil.

Of course some people are not interested in buying products owned by Unilever.

If you are looking for these new spreads, you can buy online from Tesco and OcadoTesco also have them in stores.

Have you tried any of these spreads? Did you like them?

Finally Pizza Express joins the club

I’m really not sure why this has taken so long, but it finally has arrived so you need to know.

After years of watching multiple other pizza chain restaurants introduce a vegan cheese option to their menu, Pizza Express is now offering vegan mozzarella.

It used to be that you could take your own vegan cheese into one of the almost 500 outlets in the UK and Ireland for the chefs to add to a customised pizza (I’m not joking), but now you can go into any one of their restaurants and order a vegan pizza without having to bring some of the ingredients yourself.

The following is from the official Pizza Express announcement online this week:

For some time now, our customers have been telling us that they want a vegan mozzarella alternative on the menu and in parallel, the world of vegan ingredients has opened up and become so interesting, enticing and tasty too. So, after a lot of tasting and testing, from June 20th we finally have an option that we believe you’ll love. One that we can say is sufficiently delicious to warrant it’s inclusion on our menu and sit atop our unique dough and delicious passata.
Made in Italy using Italian ingredients, our new vegan mozzarella alternative melts perfectly in our pizza oven and gives a creamy finish to any recipe. To celebrate, we have taken some of our favourite ingredients and created a new pizza recipe that combines flavoursome artichokes with our new asparagus, red onion, garlic oil, black olives and seasoning on a classic dough and passata base to create our new Vegan Giardiniera. Not only this, our vegan mozzarella alternative is available to be used across all of our pizzas, making this a great option for those looking for a dairy-free alternative.

How do you feel about this new option? Is it going to make your life any easier when it comes to dining out with friends, family or colleagues?

Yay for vegan pizza!

Tibits gets a new location

One of London’s top spots when it comes to vegan-friendly eating in a non-vegan spot is tibits.

This buffet-style eatery just off Regent Street has long been a hub for plant-based eaters. This might have something to do with most of their food being suitable for vegans, including delights such as sticky toffee pudding and a huge range of salads and pastas.

This month sees the opening of a second London version of tibits (if we don’t count the west London version that came and went very quickly years ago).

Fans of the serve-yourself restaurant can know fill up on their vegan options near the Tate Modern on the south side of the Thames.

The maps above shows the new location set to open this month (June 2017).

You can see all of the tibits locations over on their website, including the multiple restaurants spread around Switzerland.

Are you excited about another tibits?

New vegan milk in Sainsbury’s

I wrote about this brand coming to the UK a little while ago, but the time has finally arrived.

Cailfia Farms plant-based milks have started showing up in Sainsbury’s stores around the UK.

Dean, a super friendly reader, sent me this photo taken inside Sainsbury’s South Woodford.

I’m super excited about Califia Farms now being available around the UK. These milks are delicious.

I’m also curious about the Soya Dream  Oat Dream bottles on the shelf below. I’ve haven’t tried yet and I can’t wait to get my hands on these.

Have you tied any of these new plant milks?

All you can eat vegan cake event

How about an all you can eat vegan cake event?

PoppinEvents is hosting an all- you-can-eat vintage vegan tea party on June 25, 2017 near Dalston Junction inLondon.

They will be serving a variety of homemade delicious vegan treats including Strawberry Cheesecake, Ultimate Brownies, Lemon & Raspberry Loaf, and Nutella Fudge just to name a few.

All of this can be washed down with a scrumptious homemade vegan milk bottle milkshake, with other soft drinks available.

Or if you’re feeling bubbly you can pay £10 for unlimited prosecco (vegan friendly of course). If you choose this option you have the chance to visit the prosecco bar if you want to decorate and dress your drink.

An acoustic performer will entertain on the day, singing some of the old classics and new originals.

Sounds like an absolutely gorgeous event.
