To help Hackney Downs Studios celebrate their annual Open Studios event on July 4, I am thrilled to announce the return of Hackney Downs Vegan Market for ONE NIGHT ONLY.
Eat Work Art are incredibly excited to announce their 10th anniversary Open Studios Series 2019, a celebration of 10 years of Eat Work Art across Netil House, Hackney Downs Studios and Old Paradise Yard.
The Eat Work Art Open Studios event at Hackney Downs Studios is taking place on Thursday July 4, 2019 from 6pm.
This year, Eat Work Art celebrates a decade of transforming under-appreciated buildings into vibrant, creative communities. Hackney Downs Studios was the second site to be developed, back in 2011, and since then they have attracted thousands of people to their annual Open Studios events, with the public eager to witness the magic that surrounds their catalytic home.
As you know, Hackney Downs Studios was also home to the legendary and game-changing Hackney Downs Vegan Market so it felt right that we should be back on site for this momentous celebration.
Hackney Downs Vegan Market will be back with half a dozen of the very best vegan street food traders in the capital.
We are going back to where it all began!
Open Studios will allow you to meet and network with over 300 inspiring creatives, as you discover their spaces and check out their incredible work. Take a tour of our collaborative spaces Palmspace and Heartspace to meet the makers & artists behind them for a chance to purchase original works of art, craft and design.
Expect exhibitions and talks curated by residents as well as taster classes & workshops, exclusive sample sales and art showcase at Public Gallery. Enjoy live music, food, drinks and dancing at our after party.
Not only will you be able to dine at our vegan market curated by Fat Gay Vegan (that’s me!) but you will also be able to explore on-site zero waste emporium Re:Store for environmentally friendly and sustainably sourced goodies.
Doesn’t this all sound fabulous?!
Due to the overwhelming demand for this event, free tickets need to be booked in advance. Yes, free tickets!

You have a new vegan street food trader and I think you should be very excited about them. Say hello to Bar Dei Baci and their fried pizza!
The vegan frizza (fried pizza) from Bar DeirBaci looks incredible.
It is made fresh on the market stall and comes in a range of flavours. The mac n cheese frizza has already proven to be a sensation and is selling out at appearances all around London.
If you haven’t been fortunate enough to get your hands on some frizza yet, your chance is coming up.
Bar Dei Baci is trading at Hackney Downs Vegan Market this Sunday October 14, 2018 for the first time ever. Come along after 11am for a taste of food heaven.
You can see the full Sunday line up online here and follow Bar Dei Baci on Instagram.
Extra market news: get along to the Sunday market for 3 for the price of 2 on New Roots award-winning vegan cheese. This is a rare opportunity to save some cash on one of the best vegan cheese ranges on the planet.
In case you have missed the news, Fat Gay Vegan is a London wide concern these days!
I have so much market news and am thrilled to announce that you can now eat and shop in Hackney all weekend long as Hackney Downs Vegan Market becomes a Saturday AND Sunday market.
In addition, I am launching Fat Gay Vegan at Venn Street which is our own weekly Saturday vegan market alongside the traditional Venn Street Market.
This is all kicking off from Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September, 2018.
Get along to Hackney Downs Vegan Marketthis Saturday September 1, 2018 where I will be giving away 1,000 vegan croissants!
The very friendly Free From Italy have kindly donated a HUGE amount of their Probios vegan croissants for me to give away for free at our market this week.
The croissants are individually wrapped and perfect for an on-the-go snack, to take to work or picnics.
I will be handing out several hundred in both Organic Whole Wheat and Spelt varieties. Even though I have a lot to hand out, please get to the market early as there is no purchase necessary to get them for free and there isn’t really a limit on how many you can take. However, I will probably get a bit annoyed and mouthy if you try and take too many. Be decent about it!
The croissants, which are usually available in Chocolate, Spelt, Wholemeal and Savoury flavours, are normally sold in packs of 5 individually wrapped portions and ready to eat.
If you can’t make it to the market but would like to buy your own vegan croissants, you can do so online at the Free From Italy website and Ocado. You can follow Free From Italy on Instagram.
The line up for the market is sensational, including a first time appearance by legendary vegan bakery Ms. Cupcake. See full details here. We open at 11am until 5pm and are located at E8 2BT.
Fat Gay Vegan teams up with legendary VENN STREET MARKET to turn the famous Clapham Common destination into your new favourite vegan market.
Fat Gay Vegan at Venn Street Market launches on Saturday September 15, 2018 and continues EVERY Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
Taking over one third of Venn Street Market, the FGV market is a weekly showcase of some of the finest vegan street food in the capital as well as take home vegan cheeses, cakes, and personal products. There will be at least ten vegan stalls each Saturday.
Fat Gay Vegan at Venn Street Market is situated just a two-minute walk from Clapham Common Underground station.
Just Falafs is a new vegan eatery getting rave reviews in Sheffield, so I am thrilled to announce that we are welcoming them to Hackney Downs Vegan Market this Saturday August 11, 2018 for an exclusive London appearance.
The menu at Just Falafs is packed solid with falafel, hummus, and all manner of Middle Eastern cuisine and I’m sure our market attendees are going to love the selection on offer just as much as Sheffield diners do.
Just Falafs are teaming up with legendary Hackney eatery Black Cat for this special appearance at our market.

London will soon welcome its first ever vegan, zero waste market.
Set to take place between 10:00am and 5:00pm on Saturday September 29, 2018 at the beautiful palm tree filled Conservatory (at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington), Zero Mkt London will involve zero animal products, zero single-use plastics and zero waste. Everything will be edible, reusable, recyclable or compostable. Guests will have an array of stalls to explore, ranging from vegan food and drink, eco lifestyle products, and sustainable clothing items.
Abigail Penny and James Morgan – founders of the market – describe this as a “celebration, where together we can bask in plant-based goodness, explore sustainable products, and begin to live more consciously”.
When asked what inspired them to set up the event, they added: “As consumers we can choose to have a positive impact on this world. We’re on a journey of discovery ourselves and want to share our experience with others. Animal agriculture, non-recyclable plastics, and throwaway fashion each have devastating impacts on our environment, so we hope that by bringing exciting alternatives to our community we can empower and equip others to change their habits and perspectives too!”
Zero Mkt London has partnered with City Harvest who will redistribute surplus food to London’s homeless community and any profit will be donated to Animal Equality, a leading animal protection organisation.
Zero Mkt London founders recognise that many stallholders will need to travel to the venue, so they will be planting trees as part of a carbon offsetting mission.
Hackney Downs Vegan Market is more than a place to buy food. For many of our traders, it has become an extended family.
Every single week I receive messages from market visitors who want to tell me that they loved the friendly, community feel of the event.
We work hard to make sure our traders feel happy, comfortable and cherished, which in turn helps create a positive atmosphere that flows onto the punters.
So, it is one big happy family but sadly sometimes people leave home.
Saturday May 5, 2018 is going to mark the final appearance of Clarisse and her superstar vegan patisserie The Sunny Spoon.
Clarisse has decided to follow up with a career opportunity which means she will no longer be able to trade at Hackney Downs Vegan Market.
Of course the food from The Sunny Spoon is spectacular, but it is the human behind the brand which is making us really feel the loss.
Clarisse has been more than just a friendly trader. She has worked tirelessly to make Hackney Downs Vegan Market a destination to which people want to return. The Sunny Spoon was one of the businesses to show up through the brutal winter months and Clarisse never stopped smiling.
Clarisse is not a person to rest on past glories. Her patisserie was already exquisite when I first met her but it is proof of Clarisse’s dedication to her profession that she never stopped working to take it all to the next level.
And as sad as I am to be saying goodbye, I know it is exactly these wonderful qualities that will take Clarisse onto even more rewarding and amazing adventures.
Thank you, Clarisse. You have been an important part of our market and you will be missed dearly.
Visit Hackney Downs Vegan Marketthis Saturday May 5, 2018 to say thank you and goodbye (for now) to Clarisse. Please follow The Sunny Spoon on Instagram to keep updated with her adventures.
I’ve only just recovered from the mammoth three-day Hackney Downs Festive Vegan Market held at Hackney Downs Studios.
Not only was the market a great opportunity for people to buy some of the best street food in the UK, it also marked our one year anniversary of hosting the market in this location.
I want to say a massive thank you to Eat Work Art for giving this market a home.
Hackney Downs Vegan Market has become one of the most iconic and loved destinations for vegans and their friends on the planet.
Thank you to all the attendees who have visited during 2017 and of course extra special thanks to our traders. Until you have done a day on the market, you can’t imagine how hard they work to bring fresh and exciting food to thousands of people each week.
The market returns weekly on Saturday January 6, 2018.
