Vegan ingenuity in Glasgow

Times are tough and small business owners are looking for unique and unusual ways to stay afloat.

Hugh of Trusty Buck’s in Glasgow is just one example of this vegan ingenuity.

After being forced to close his location housed inside a pub due to the global crisis, Hugh was desperate to find a way to keep his vegan comfort food business alive.

Hugh got busy organising his festival catering setup so he could run Trusty Buck’s in the garden of his family home. Yes, that’s right. Hugh created a temporary catering kitchen in the garden!

After a lot of back and forth with the council, Trusty Buck’s is all certified and ready to roll. They are now serving delivery and collection.

The menu at Trust Buck’s is intensely delicious looking. Click here to explore the cuisine line up and order.

They are taking orders (live or pre-booked) for delivery around Glasgow’s southside or for collection between 5pm and 10pm between Wednesday and Sunday.

Follow Trusty Buck’s on Instagram for all the latest news and updates.

Award winning vegan food in Jacksonville

Have you seen this incredible vegan comfort food spot in Jacksonville, Florida?

Murray Hillbilly is a much-loved independent vegan restaurant in the Murray Hill neighbourhood of Jacksonville, a city that sits about 5-hours drive time north of Miami.

I don’t know a lot about Jacksonville, except that the major sports team is called the Jaguars and I only know that fact because it was mentioned many times by a character on drama/comedy series The Good Place.

However, I am starting to get a lot more interested in Jacksonville thanks to the food photos coming out from Murray Hillbilly.

This multi-award winning restaurant opened in late 2017 and has since built up a huge number of loyal locals who can’t get enough of their cuisine.

Check out some photos below:

My friend Steven and his husband Nate live in Jacksonville and can’t say enough great things about this place. In particular, they rave about the weekend brunch.

I need to visit soon. For food and friends.

You can see the exact location of Murray Hillbilly online thanks to Google Maps. You can also follow them on Instagram and Facebook.

Veggie Grill still the best

Gil and I were recently in Los Angeles, so I made sure I put some time aside in order to visit a Veggie Grill location.

In case you don’t know, Veggie Grill is a vegan restaurant chain with locations around the USA.

The growth of the restaurant group has been sensational with approximately thirty locations spread around the country.

Their food is some of the best plant-based cuisine you will eat on the planet, with a special seasonal mini menu that changes throughout the year in addition to their regular items.

Check out my photos below and be sure to follow Veggie Grill on Instagram.

Vegan eatery in Mexico City

Mexico City is my home for at least half of each year, so I’m thrilled that it is also one of the vegan capitals of the planet.

The latest addition to the huge number of vegan eateries is the bricks and mortar restaurant of famed vegan street food trader Pan D’Monium.

Pan D’Monium has built a loyal customer following with their super cute street stall on Orizaba in Colonia Roma.

The women-owned and run business has now expanded with a permanent location, taking over a restaurant space on busy Chilpancingo. They are keeping everyone happy with pizza, burgers, hot dogs, shakes, and more.

I dropped by a few days ago to congratulate them on their new endeavour and of course to eat and drink.

Vegan eatery in Whitstable

I got a nice message from Becky a little while back in which she was telling me about her new vegan restaurant in Kent.

I asked for a little more info in order to let you all know about it and this is what she told me.

It’s called ‘Potato Tomato – The Eatery’ and it’s in Whitstable, Kent. My sister Niki and I opened it on 4th August and we’ve been overwhelmed so far by how popular we’ve been with vegans, veggies and omnis alike. This May we celebrated our 30 year ‘veganniversary’ so it was great to be able to celebrate that by opening a restaurant, which is something we’ve talked about for years.

The food we serve aims to show people that vegan food isn’t bland or boring. We enjoy creating dishes that will appeal to everyone and that are bursting with flavour. We have a children’s menu and serve brunch, lunch and desserts. We are currently open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays 10:30am – 4:00pm, and Saturdays and Sundays 10:00am – 4:00pm. In October we will be opening on Saturday evenings to serve three-course meals.

This is fabulous news for the people of Whitstable and surrounding towns in Kent.

You can visit Potato Tomato online and follow them on Facebook.

Now, let’s check out some photos!

Decadent vegan food in Leeds

Leeds has been a bit of a slow burner when it comes to food.

There is maybe just one 100% vegan eatery and it seems to be really developing a lot more slowly than the rest of the UK.

However there is one area where the northern city is picking up a bit of steam and that is in the field of non-vegan places adopting stand alone vegan menus and options.

Take Mog’s for example.

Drool over some of the amazing and decadent sandwiches being served up by this not-completely-vegan cafe on Kirkstall Lane.

Wow, right?!

I am absolutely beside myself over some of those photos.

Take a quick look at Mog’s Instagram or Facebook pages to see plant-based customers raving about this food. I also see a lot of people talking about the huge vegan breakfast.

Get involved and get to Mog’s.

All time Champs

Many have tried but no one else comes close to what Champs do with diner comfort food in Brooklyn.

As my bus trundled into the Port Authority bus terminal, I had an overwhelming chorus of NYC vegan eatery recommendations swimming in my head. A call out on my blog for food ideas to explore during my time in the Big Apple had been met with countless suggestions and recommendations, so it was up to me to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Of all the recommendations that landed in my laptop, one place towered above the rest for sheer number of mentions.

Vegans of the world, I give you Champs Diner.
