Purezza set to open another location

They just can’t slow down.

Only days after announcing their third location will be opening in Hove, superstar vegan pizza chain Purezza has announced ANOTHER location is on its way.

This time in Bristol.

Not long after tripling the size of their Camden branch to become the biggest vegan restaurant in the UK, Purezza will be opening at 79-81 Gloucester Road, Bristol which just happens to be the site of a former butcher before being taken over by Pigsty, a pork and BBQ restaurant.

They are reclaiming the space for the vegans!

The ethos and ingredients behind Purezza’s plant-based Neapolitan pizzas may be a far cry from the building’s previous occupants, but they are nonetheless loved by foodies globally, having won National Pizza of the Year in 2018 in the UK, Vegan Restaurant of the Year 2018, and being prize winners in the World Pizza Championships in 2019.

Purezza is known for crafting its own plant-based mozzarella, and a unique sourdough pizza base made with organic wholegrain flours. These are used in a range of pizzas from classics like the Margherita, to unique inventions like the Parmigiana Party which uses aubergine parmigiana and meat substitutes for its toppings.

The restaurant will also serve a full gluten-free menu, a large range of creative cocktails, and raw dishes including a raw pizza using a base made with seeds and nuts, and raw tiramisu made using finely blended cashew nuts. Food will also be available via local delivery services.

Surplus food pop up event in Bristol

Anna just got in touch with me to let me know about a new vegan café venture she is launching. Café Surplus is part café, part campaign and part awareness-raising venture about food waste as the café will be stocked using surplus produce from local shops and businesses.

Anna is holding a party to launch the brand on 7th June, 2018 in Bristol (you can buy tickets online here).

A little bit about the event in Bristol:

Come along for an evening of food, drink and feel-good socialising. The fully vegan buffet will be sourced using surplus food collected from local shops, markets and supermarkets. There will be plenty to eat but the exact menu will be decided on the day. Ticket price covers all you can eat, a (non-alcoholic) cocktail on arrival, venue hire, staff wages and an evening full of fun and good vibes.

Tickets are just £10. Book now.

Also look out for Anna and Cafe Surplus to show up in London soon after the Bristol launch. There are plans to open a permanent location in the capital.

You can follow the venture on Facebook and Twitter.

Help vegan business

Hey!

Doesn’t it make you feel like a happier person when you get a chance to help an independent vegan business?

Well, today you are going to be twice as delighted because two vegan businesses need your assistance.

First up:

Vegan brewhouse and all-round legendary company Brass Castle needs our help to buy a crowler.

What the fuck is a crowler? A crowler is a canning machine that allows beer to be canned fresh out of the tap.

Having a crowler will allow Brass Castle to sell takeout beer to customers at their taphouse, as well as package and send beer to customers around the UK.

At time of posting this story, the Brass Castle crowler campaign was 65% funded with 16 days remaining. Click on the photo above or here to pledge if you can afford it. They have vegan beer rewards!

Next:

The Spotless Leopard is a much-loved vegan food truck in Bristol and it needs our help to stay on the road.

Running a food business is tough work. Mentally, physically and financially. Profit margins are narrow, leaving not a lot of money spare for when emergencies crop up.

The Spotless Leopard has a batch of repairs that need seeing to if they want to stay viable and trading.

You can click on the photo above or here if you are able to push some money their way. They have great thank you rewards available if you are in the Bristol area. A small donation if you are nowhere near the city would of course be greatly appreciated, I’m sure.

There you have it.

Two opportunities to lend a helping hand to independent business.

Vegan fish and chip shop now open

We’ve had a vegan cupcake bakery and a vegan fried chicken shop, so it’s about time the UK got its very own vegan fish and chip shop.

Say hello to Matter Fastfood.

If you are reading this from outside the UK, you might not be familiar with the term ‘chippy’. Chippy is a colloquialism for chip ship, a fast food outlet serving fish, chips, battered sausages, and all manner of comfort food delights.

The clever and compassionate people of Matter have made the population of Bristol incredibly happy by opening their vegan version of the much-loved chippy.

Check out how they describe their business:

We offer the healthiest fast food possible, everything from our vegan take on chip shop right through to super salad bowls and wraps. Imagine pie, chips & peas, vegan fried cheeken (a take on fried chicken), gluten-free battered sausage with chips, or the much-loved tofish and chips. We have kebab wraps, homemade sauces such as chilli, sweet & sour, gravy, curry sauce, garlic mayo all made without salt, oil or MSG. We have plans to develop the menu to include other classic takeout wok dishes and pizza. Our desserts range from pineapple/banana/apple fritters through to high-end raw vegan cheesecakes and homemade super chocolate. Tasty, affordable, nutritious and satisfying, our dishes are aimed at everyone (not just vegans).

Sounds fab. But how does it look?

See for yourself.

Not sure when I have time to get to Bristol this year, but this is as good a reason as any to make the effort.

You should follow Matter on Facebook.

You can see the exact location of the shop thanks to Google Maps.
