Even before it opened I received emails from readers asking if I had information about the vegan business Cakes ‘n’ Treats based in Camden, specifically about the rumours of it being linked to individuals with far-right and fascist leanings and ideologies.
In response to this overwhelming interest in the topic (I still receive multiple emails about it each month), I am sharing two links which I feel give an insight that readers might find informative.
If I already adored Cookies & Scream of Camden, how am I supposed to feel now they have created the finest vegan milkshake on the planet? I might just have to petition the Government to allow me to gay marry this vegan business.
My grasp of the English language is insufficient when it comes to doing justice to this drink. Let me just say it is fucking fabulous.
Just a super quick note to let you know about a new column I am writing for someone else. It’s not all about me, you know!
The wonderful and curious new online magazine called About Time has enlisted me to contribute a regular column called Fat Gay Vegan Eats. The first offering features my list of five destinations for vegans in Camden.
I was about to start this post by saying another week sees the appearance of another vegan food market stall, but I think they are popping up faster than one a week in London.
Rawwwsome is kind of unique, though.
The fabulous Steph has started this super cute stall right in the heart of Camden Lock Market. It is packed with incredibly healthy (and tasty!) handmade raw treats such as mint chocolate brownies, raspberry cheesecakes and banoffee bites.
Steph told me she is having a great time exposing this type of food to the mostly non-vegan punters of the market. During my visit, I counted almost a dozen curious people stop by to taste the samples on offer and every single one of them looked and sounded impressed.
And so was I. Everything I ate was gorgeous. Check out the photos below.
Get down to Camden Lock Market and eat all the raw treats from Rawwwsome. Follow Steph on Twitter. It might be a good idea to double check with her before you head down that she will be there. I think she is currently at the market most Fridays and Saturdays.
I have been writing this blog for several years and during that time I have always tried to stay on topic. Topic being food and overeating, of course.
But every now and then I like to slip in a little slice of information that means something to my heart and brain, as opposed to my belly.
If you love music and are impressed by other people who devote their lives to music, then you need to get your good self to Camden to check out a brand new store devoted to collectible vinyl. Vinyl Boutique Camden is the creation of UK rockabilly pioneers and legends, Lyn and Boz Boorer.
Lyn and Boz know everything there is to know about rockabilly, psychobilly, neobilly and everything in between and outside the genres. I would feel happy saying what they don’t know about the scene is not worth knowing.
Boz also enjoys a much-celebrated and adored musical relationship with Morrissey, collaborating on some of his finest solo material and heading up stage antics as band leader, guitarist and backing vocalist.
I dropped by the new store in Camden Village Market (shop 231) yesterday to see how things were shaping up. Lyn and Boz were both hard at work putting the finishing touches to their store, while the signage was due to go up ahead of the grand opening this weekend. Mayor of Camden Jonathon Simpson is due to cut the ribbon across the front door at 1pm on Sunday (April 13, 2014) but the Boorers are keen to get proceedings moving faster than that and will feature live music outside the shop throughout the day.
Get down to Vinyl Boutique Camden this weekend and expand your knowledge of good music. You couldn’t ask for finer teachers than Lyn and Boz.
Cookies & Screamin Camden isn’t just one of the best bakeries in the UK. I’d put my money on it being one of the finest on the planet.
This point of view was only strengthened today by my discovery of their new tiramisu creation. I was gobsmacked. The pie filling was decadent, gooey and delicious, while the cream topping was second to none.
Buy this pie.

The Vegan Society will be filming the entire day for a video to be shared on their website and social media platforms. It is our opportunity to show on a grand scale how London vegans and their friends can come together!
Please stay tuned for regular updates to this event. It is a real first for London and an amazing way to encourage local businesses to take notice of vegans. The event aims to support local traders while promoting and supporting the vegan community!
The unthinkable happened today. I saw a new vegan food truck located in Camden Lock Market and I didn’t buy any food. My stomach was beyond capacity following epic eating sessions at both Mr. Falafel and Cookies & Scream. I simply couldn’t fit in another morsel.
So you see, you need to assist me in getting information out to the vegan masses.
Your task, if you accept it, is to get down to Camden Lock Market and locate Rupert’s Street Food truck. Once you have found the food vending van, buy vegan savouries, cakes and drinks before reporting back on this very page.
I get asked a lot of questions as a vegan blogger living in London. People want to know my favourite places to eat. Where they can get vegan cheese. The top three vegan ‘must-see’ attractions if they are in town for just a day. If I’ll I go on a date with them…
OK, I admit the last one NEVER happens but the number of queries regarding veganism in London is huge. Out of all the questions and emails, there is one request that has been asked more than any other…
