Online cheese shopping

Slowly, but surely, UK supermarket chains are waking up to the demands and needs of vegan shoppers.

Tesco is the latest company to add a previously difficult to find vegan product to their online shopping website. One of the most revolutionary vegan cheeses to ever hit the UK is now available to order online via Tesco.com.

Vegan cheese won’t quit

With only five weeks until I visit the east coast of the USA, my brother-in-law Ben is ramping up my excitement by sending me photos of vegan products he is finding in his local grocery store.

The latest pics below have me delirious with anticipation. I love a good cream cheese.

Order ice cream

The Vegan Ice Cream Wars have just launched into cyberspace.

Vegans are still celebrating the arrival of Almond Dream ice creams into Waitrose stores around the country, but not all outlets stock all four available flavours. As a matter of fact, a lot of their stores don’t have any.

Thankfully, it’s 2015 and we have the Internet.

Vegan surprise

Berlin is so incredibly vegan-friendly, I am still discovering vegan options long after I departed.

What the heck am I talking about?

I was flicking through food photos from my Berlin trip (food reminiscing is one of my favourite hobbies) when a picture of a Mexican-themed restaurant caught my attention. I remember taking the photo but only because I liked the look of it and the logo was a wrestling mask. It wasn’t a vegan or vegetarian restaurant as far as I could tell.

But I looked a bit more closely today and the chalk board out the front shows options for vegan burgers!

berlin mex veganBerlin is so vegan-friendly, you can accidentally photograph vegan menu items without realising.

Has anyone eaten at this place? Was the food tasty?

Eat this tomorrow

After all the excess of NYE, Saturday’s menu at London Vegan Drinks is pure comfort food.

You will be able to choose from Cornish pasties, mushroom and vegetable pies or sausage rolls with sides of home cooked ‘skins on’ fries/sweet potatoes and a healthy salad for a mere £7.95.

If you’ve got a grand scheme for some sort of January detox, our host venue Kabaret @ Karamel will also be serving a delicious brown basmati rice superfood salad for £6.95.

lvd flyerOf course the entire bar, like the food menu, is 100% vegan and will include beer, cider, spirits, wine and champagne.

DJs will be spinning between 10pm and 2am. We have Supa B & Springz with fresh tunes following on from their triumphant New Year’s Eve set (people were jumping up and down… really) plus the inimitable Baroness Bamberforth playing pop, house, indie and DEVO!

This is the first London Vegan Drinks of 2015, so let’s make it one to remember.

Vegan again

One of my favourite things to eat is cheap, rapid cook noodles. Sainsbury’s used to have a range of pot noodles and instant noodles that were all suitable for vegans. Over the course of a few years, these changed leaving not one vegan option in the range of their own brand instant noodles.

But things have changed, again!

My hangover today had me on my knees in my local Sainsbury’s, rummaging through the instant noodle section in a desperate attempt to see if any of the flavours were vegan. I am delighted to report I found a vegan option.

Brewed soda

One of my favourite things I consumed this year was not fried, baked or boiled.

It was brewed.

Mono is just one of the many, many locations in Glasgow packed with vegan options. The delicious-looking food menu is 100% vegan but it wasn’t what I ate that left me with fond memories of Mono.

It was a drink.

Vegan DJ alert

I am just 24 hours out from opening the doors for my second annual New Year’s Eve party.

Earlier this week, all 70 tickets for the vegan buffet dinner starting at 6:30pm sold out completely. I have been in touch with Louise and Frank of host venue Kabaret and we have sorted a few extra spaces for the meal, so book here for one of the last dinner spots. The dinner ticket also gets you access to the disco starting at 10pm.

Which brings me to this news.

Check out the line up of DJs set to keep the compassionate crowd dancing tomorrow night after 10pm until late.

Slaughter-free dairy?

OK. I think this one is a no brainer, but here goes anyway.

I don’t think you should support slaughter-free dairy. I think people should stop taking milk from cows and only consume plant-derived milks.

What prompts this statement?

There is currently an IndieGoGo campaign raising funds for a ‘no slaughter’ dairy farm in the UK called The Ahimsa Dairy Foundation.
