Temple of Seitan in the North

I’ve been helping legendary London restaurant Temple of Seitan for a little while now and the most common comments I see from customers when I’m hanging around their social media have to do with the North of the UK.

People really want to see a Temple of Seitan location up North.

I’m sorry if I got you excited and made you think there is now a full location of the famous food chain in the North, however you can buy and eat Temple of Seitan in Manchester, Leeds, and Liverpool as part of their collaboration with Yard & Coop.

Yard & Coop is not a vegan restaurant chain, so please use caution if you go sniffing around their website. You could stumble across animal-derived foods.

The vegan offerings however ARE gorgeous-looking and they all use Temple of Seitan chick’n.

Visitors to Yard & Coop can choose between:

AbraKEBABra – seitan with sweet pickled cabbage, diced tomato, minted yoghurt, chilli sauce, pickle chilli and crisp fries wrapped in pitta. All Veganuary dishes are served with a portion of fries

Karen’s Doing Veganuary – Temple of Seitan tenders accompanied with crispy bacon, street slaw, lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce and vegan mayo

Massive Vegan Cock Burger – a 12″ plant-based version of the original Yard & Coop Massive Cock dish. Standing at 30cm tall, piled high with Temple of Seitan tenders, 2 hash browns, salt and pepper cauliflower, and street slaw. There’s also vegan bacon, cheese slices, lashings of chilli and mint yoghurt, iceberg lettuce, fresh tomato, gherkins, and red onion topped with a seitan wing perched on top. This monster is all crammed within a vegan brioche bun with loads of fries.

These Veganuary specials will not be around forever (until February 6, 2022) so if you are interested, get along to Yard & Coop in Manchester, Leeds, and Liverpool ASAP.

You can get all store location info as well as links for ordering delivery on the Yard & Coop website.

You can follow Temple of Seitan on Instagram.

Now, let’s keep hoping for that permanent Temple of Seitan location in the North!

Vegan tapas at Beer Engine Sheffield

A few days ago I was invited to try the vegan food options at The Beer Engine in Sheffield, South Yorkshire which has just reopened.

The food menu is tapas style and all super tasty. Yes, I ate everything I’ve listed below:

  • caramelised onion hummus with olives and pita
  • padron peppers with sea salt
  • agedashi tofu
  • tomato bruschetta
  • miso and maple cauliflower wings
  • patatas bravas with vegan aioli
  • loaded nachos
  • fried plantain with pineapple salsa

Click on the image to see all the food via my Instagram account.

They have renovated the beer garden of the pub with plants, lights, and umbrellas so rug up and get down there between Wednesday and Sunday. Come summer, this place is going to be packed solid every single day.

You can see the Beer Engine food menu online here.

All of the cheeses are nut-based and include:

New vegan fast food in Sheffield

Vegans ready to get Saucy in the UK.

Sheffield vegans and the vegan-curious alike are set to enjoy a true taste revolution as plant-based Saucy launches with gourmet fast food delivery in the South Yorkshire city.

Launching on July 31, 2020 Saucy is the new project from the founders of legendary vegan eatery, Make No Bones, and I’m super happy to be working with them to help with promotion.

Saucy co-founder Dave Shaw said of this new fast food concept:

“My dream has always been to feed delicious vegan comfort food to as many people as I can. While our team is busy working hard behind the scenes to get Make No Bones back up and running and serving our loyal customers again, we also wanted to bring another plan to life.

We designed the Saucy menu to appeal directly to the taste buds of decadent burger lovers and people who, just like me, can’t resist a hefty portion of crispy fries.”

Specialty menu items set to impress include the Katsu Burger featuring a fried chicken-style fillet housed in a fresh bun with sesame-infused slaw and Japanese curry sauce.

Freshly cooked fries are available in two sizes, as is the irresistible Japanese-inspired slaw when ordered as a side.

A selection of beef-style burgers sit alongside the line-up of chicken-style burgers, while fans of gourmet dipping sauces will be thrilled to see a wide range of in house sauces available to order separately to take their fries experience to another level.

Saucy is currently serving delivery only via local food app Mealbase, with more options for takeaway and delivery coming soon.

Purezza set to open another location

They just can’t slow down.

Only days after announcing their third location will be opening in Hove, superstar vegan pizza chain Purezza has announced ANOTHER location is on its way.

This time in Bristol.

Not long after tripling the size of their Camden branch to become the biggest vegan restaurant in the UK, Purezza will be opening at 79-81 Gloucester Road, Bristol which just happens to be the site of a former butcher before being taken over by Pigsty, a pork and BBQ restaurant.

They are reclaiming the space for the vegans!

The ethos and ingredients behind Purezza’s plant-based Neapolitan pizzas may be a far cry from the building’s previous occupants, but they are nonetheless loved by foodies globally, having won National Pizza of the Year in 2018 in the UK, Vegan Restaurant of the Year 2018, and being prize winners in the World Pizza Championships in 2019.

Purezza is known for crafting its own plant-based mozzarella, and a unique sourdough pizza base made with organic wholegrain flours. These are used in a range of pizzas from classics like the Margherita, to unique inventions like the Parmigiana Party which uses aubergine parmigiana and meat substitutes for its toppings.

The restaurant will also serve a full gluten-free menu, a large range of creative cocktails, and raw dishes including a raw pizza using a base made with seeds and nuts, and raw tiramisu made using finely blended cashew nuts. Food will also be available via local delivery services.

Another vegan business for sale in the UK

Hot on the news that Sheffield’s adored vegan grocery store The Incredible Nutshell is for sale (read here), we now hear about another successful UK business on the market.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmaUoyAnbfH/

The Cornish Vegan is an award winning and massively loved vegan eatery in Truro, Cornwall.

Here is what owners Dawn and Paul said on their website regarding the decision to close:

Our goal when starting The Cornish Vegan in 2016 was to become the best vegan eatery in Cornwall within 5 years. Little did we expect that to happen so quickly, especially the awards and TripAdvisor rankings, obviously achieved with the support of our loyal customers. Even now as the business thrives, customers often mention the potential of adding breakfasts, evenings, Sundays and franchising.

However, as our motto reads: “Nothing is as certain as the unforeseen.” Having been full on for nearly 4 years now, all this effort has left us extremely tired. So now we would like to take a step back to enjoy a quieter life in Cornwall.

Therefore, we have decided to put the business on the market. Hopefully someone will want to take over The Cornish Vegan as a going concern and build on our success. We would even help the new owner during the handover in order to make the transition as seamless as possible for our customers. Perhaps you or someone you know might be interested in running a successful vegan business?

This is a wonderful opportunity to step into a successful and established business in a gorgeous town.

If you are interested, email dawn@thecornishvegan.com for more details. And keep eating with them while Dawn and Paul are still in charge!

Be sure to follow The Cornish Vegan on Instagram to stay updated on the new owners!
