Vegan and gluten free beer

I’m hoping this beer gets some decent distribution and starts moving around the planet.

Vida Latina is a brand new Mexican beer made from agave that is both gluten-free and vegan. I picked up a few bottles in my local supermarket in Mexico City today for less than £2 per bottle.

I get asked about gluten-free vegan beer all the time, so it is great to see a new brand on the market.

If you know of any vegan and gluten-free beer brands, please list them below so we can all get a taste. And let your local beer retailer know about Vida Latina and let’s see if we can get this Mexican vegan beer in your region/country.

You can follow Vida Latina on Twitter.

Your eyes are not deceiving you. That is vegan lasagne inside a roll. If you look carefully you will also see fresh green beans.

I recently devoured this glory thanks to Los Loosers, the pioneering vegan food business in Mexico City that delivers all orders via bicycle. I’m fairly certain this was the finest sandwich I have ever been served.

Even if you have no current plans to visit Mexico City, you should follow Los Loosers on Instagram to keep track of their beyond delicious creations.

New vegan street food in Mexico

Mexico is too intense. The speed at which the vegan scene is expanding is mind-boggling.

Today I found out about a new vegan hamburger and hot dog stand called Pan D-Monium that opened only two months ago.

Situated in the Roma Norte district, Pan D’Moniun is serving up simple yet delicious vegan comfort food near the corner of Colima and Orizaba.

Check out these photos.

My first trip to eat at this street food stand will certainly not be my last. The food was inexpensive and tasty while the people running the business couldn’t have been nicer.

Is this the best new vegan eatery on the planet?

To be genuinely impressed by a new vegan eatery is a rare occurrence. Yes, I know many places do a good job of feeding us compassionate people and a good job is often just what you need. I’ll even return to a café that does a good job.

What I want to talk about here is when you dine with an establishment and they blow you away. The service is exceptional, the decor is gorgeous and everything you try from the menu is above average.

People of the Internet, please meet Elk Bistro of Mexico City.

Elk Bistro is a joint venture between super talented chef Veronica and the owners of vegan grocery store, VeganVille.

The bistro opened mere weeks ago in conjunction with the second location of VeganVille but you would be forgiven if you thought the eatery was a long time established. Every single part of what they do had been polished to perfection before they opened the doors to diners.

The central courtyard is immaculately renovated with a grand Canary Island date palm towering over proceedings. Cutlery and tableware is stylish, while the friendly people looking after you make you feel like nothing is too much trouble.

And now the food. I can’t do it more justice than the following photos.

Just dined in the most gorgeous #vegan bistro/deli in Mexico City called Elk. #cdmx

Every dish placed on my table at Elk Bistro has been exquisite.

Dining with Elk is made even more special by the fact that you have to walk through a 100% vegan grocery store to exit. Talk about exit through the gift shop!

VeganVille is stacked solid with vegan cheeses, meats, pantry items, personal care products and more. There is even a cute deli/takeaway food counter positioned at the front of the store. It is an extension of Elk and it is here where you can pick up gorgeous cream cakes and ham and cheese croissants before you depart.

If you have been considering a trip to Mexico City, Elk is the last piece of convincing you need.

Amazing resource for vegan Latin America

If you are planning a trip anywhere within Latin America, the Todo Vegano website is going to be your best friend.

This interactive directory is the only online resource you will need when travelling in the region. It is packed full of suggestions on where to eat, where to shop, how to find cosmetics and much more.

You can move around the map to zoom in on regions and cities you are interested in or use the drop down menus to search for what you are after. There is even a search category for vegan tamales!

As you can see from the screen grab above, I used the map to discover a vegan taco eatery within walking distance of my apartment here in Mexico City. I honestly didn’t know this taco stand existed until I started searching Todo Vegano, so there are truly unique and valuable listings on this site.

You can use Todo Vegano to search for vegan  food and services in Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and many, many more Latin American countries.

This online resource is going help you plan an unforgettable vegan vacation in the region.

100% vegan café in Mexico impresses

I’m currently living in one of the largest cities on the planet and getting from one part of Mexico City to another can take hours. Traffic, congestion, overcrowding and people everywhere means you often have to plan well ahead to get somewhere on time.

The size of the city can be daunting so imagine how fabulous it is having one of the best vegan eateries in the megalopolis less than a ten minute walk from my front door.

Temictli is a friendly café perched on the corner of two incredibly busy streets on the fringes of the trendy Condesa neighbourhood. They serve freshly cooked food ranging from beautifully dressed salads to handmade seitan hot dogs with all the trimmings.

The photos below show a selection of dishes I’ve gobbled up in the few weeks since I first got acquainted with Temictli and its wonderful owners Rosa Linda and Elizabeth.

Follow Temictli on Instagram for more mouthwatering photos and be sure to either dine with them or take advantage of their bike delivery service if you find yourself in Mexico City.
