Jackfruit burger and fries

London, get hungry.

The Duke’s Head pub in Highgate is known as a specialty beer pub, but also as a supporter of independent food traders in the capital. Each month, the kitchen at the Duke’s Head is handed over to caterers as a form of rolling pop-up kitchen.

Pulled Food is the current trader. The meat-centric food providers have a lot of animal products on their menu, but good news for plant eaters is the inclusion of a BBQ jackfruit burger being served for the entire month of February (2016).

Check out the glory in the photos below.

Besos de Oro

As of the end of April/beginning of May 2016, I no longer work with Besos de Oro

I am super happy to announce that I am helping Besos de Oro promote their gorgeous vegan Baileys alternative throughout the UK.

If you were one of the fortunate VegfestUK attendees who got their hands on this creamy spirit-based drink over the past year, you already know what all the fuss is about. It felt as if the majority of people stopping by my FGV stand at the shows were doing so to tell me about this amazing drink they had just sampled.

Besos de Oro is a creamy, subtly sweet brandy and horchata drink that can be consumed on its own as a digestif or poured over ice cream or brownies as a decadent treat. Personally, I would be making some sort of alcohol-fuelled milkshake topped with vegan cream.

When Peter from Besos de Oro reached out to me to see if I wanted to be part of the UK team, I jumped at the chance.

As of the end of April/beginning of May 2016, I no longer work with Besos de Oro

The first big piece of news I am spreading for Besos de Oro is their Valentine’s special offer.

Check it out.

facebook valentines

Besos de Oro have a fantastic offer for Valentine’s Day 2016.

Loved up shoppers will get a bag featuring 12 raspberry-filled chocolate hearts made by the glorious Essy & Bella (remember I wrote about them here?) plus a bottle of Besos de Oro for £19.99 plus £2.50 p&p.

That is a pretty special deal and I’d say that even if I wasn’t part of the sales team.

This Valentine’s offer is limited to only 300 orders and because I was a bit slow getting this blog post up, I think a big chunk of that quantity has already been snapped up. Order promptly and the delivery is guaranteed to reach you and/or your sweetheart in time for the big day.

If you want to order a bottle with a bag of chocolates for someone special (that can include yourself!), you need to get over to the Besos de Oro Facebook page and send them a private message telling them you want to order. Peter will put a bottle of the creamy drink and a bag of hearts aside for you before telling you how to pay.

Now, if someone could just buy one of these packs and ship to me in Mexico my heart would be eternally theirs.

Food and drink in Newcastle

I don’t know if this is new info or if I’m out of the loop, but you are going to love this very vegan-friendly establishment in Newcastle.

The Bohemian is a super cool looking bar, restaurant and record shop (!) situated smack bang in the heart of the northern city.

Drink FGV

This is my favourite piece of news I have shared in a long time.

I’m thrilled to let you know I am making my very own beer!

The brew is being made and sold in conjunction with Dominion Brewery Company, which is also responsible for the incredibly popular Pitfield range of vegan beers.

Andy, head brewer and owner of Dominion, has helped me bring my ideas to life and we recently held a tasting workshop during which we fine tuned the flavours.

The FGV beer will be exclusively launched at London Vegan Beer Fest in July and will be available to attendees of Manchester Vegan Beer Fest and Glasgow Vegan Beer Fest later in the year.

You can follow Vegan Beer Fest UK on Facebook and Twitter to be the first to know about tickets and dates for these three huge events in 2016.

Following on from the beer fests, the FGV beer will be available to buy online and in independent beer shops, vegan retailers and selected bars.

Jackfruit glory

Remember a few days ago when I posted about the best accidentally vegan product of 2015 being a cherry and bourbon sauce?

If you were too busy sleeping off your partying antics, you can check it out here.

Skip forward to today and I got my hands on the original version of this life-changing Jim Beam cooking sauce. Check out what we are having for dinner tonight.

Don’t be jealous BUT… pulled jackfruit cooked up in this Jim Beam sauce. Fuck this is good! #vegan

Vegan barleywine

This is some exciting news for lovers of drinking.

The always vegan-friendly Little Valley Brewery has just released a limited run of their brand new organic barleywine ale.

It looks like a real winner and at 10% ABV, you’ll need to take it easy with this one.

Here is what the brewery has to say about this decadent libation:

Eight of Europe’s finest hops and malts combine with fresh water from the Yorkshire Pennines to deliver a bottle conditioned barleywine ale that’s worth celebrating: rich, bold, dark, with hints of raisin and a strong malty backbone.

LVB X will continue to improve with age. Limited while stocks last.

Order online now and follow Little Valley on Twitter.

Eating in Glasgow

I am often found singing the praises of Glasgow. Well, not really singing because I can’t but I am known for seriously loving the city and its vegan food opportunities.

My recent-ish visit to the Scottish city had me all in a flap, trying to get my chubby paws on as much of the glorious plant-based offerings as possible.

Like I did with the following food/drink from The Flying Duck.

Vegan Beer Fest UK

Hold on to your pint glasses, people. News doesn’t come bigger than this.

Following on from the meteoric rise in popularity of London Vegan Beer Fest which resulted in 1000 guests enjoying the 2015 event, I am thrilled to announce I will be taking the event around the UK in 2016.

Of course London Vegan Beer Fest will be back for a 4th year this July, but I will also be staging the event in Manchester and Glasgow.

The Manchester and Glasgow events will have everything that is adored about the London event, but also unique twists to suit the city we are in. That means attendees will be able to get hold of branded pint cups/glasses, beer tick sheets, exclusive merchandise, and close to 100 different vegan beers from around the country, as well as gorgeous vegan food cooked up by local food vendors and restaurants.

While final details will follow soon, I can tell you Glasgow Vegan Beer Fest will take place in August 2016 while Manchester Vegan Beer Fest will roll out in September.

You can follow the official Vegan Beer Fest UK Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. This is where you will get breaking news about dates, venues and tickets.

Game over: we have a winner

It all makes sense now.

This is the vegan-friendly product I didn’t know I was waiting for my entire life.
