I adore Mexican sweet breads such as conchas and we are fortunate in London to have a home bakery businesses specialising in vegan versions of some of my favourites.
AND… this baking business is taking part in a pop up market in east London on Sunday 25th October, 2026 so you can get a whole batch of their goodies to take home for yourself.

Pa’l Susto is a micro bakery bsuiness in London specialising in vegan versions of Mexican sweet breads.
In Mexico, these pastries are daily staples and my Mexican husband has explained to me many times that it is his cultural and historical right to eat sweet breads first thing in the morning and then again late at night.
Mexican sweet breads include the famous concha, a dense yet spongy half dome roll coated with a crunchy sugar shell. It is everywhere in Mexico and my husband’s family buy it in large quantites to devour with hot drinks.
There are only a few spots in Mexico city that sell vegan versions of these traditional breads, so we are super fortunate to have someone in London creating them.
Pa’l Susto can be found at pop up events around London, including the Not A Phase alternative market being hosted at Signature Brew at Blackhorse Road on Sunday October 25th, 2026.
Not A Phase is not a vegan market, but rather a collection of independent businesses celebrating alternative fashion, music, and sub-cultures. It’s all a bit gothy and emo!
Pa’l Susto will have a stall selling not only spooky versions of their conchas, but also pan de muerto. This sugary bread with hints of orange is made at this time of year to help celebrate the day of the dead. It is delicious.
Entry to this market is free but you want to get down as early as possible to snap up the bakery items. Pa’l Susto always draws a crowd.
Not A Phase runs from 1pm until 6pm. It is dog friendly. See the exact location of Signature Brew thanks to Google Maps.
