Vegan popcorn chicken

Have you ever had a dream about something so wondrous, you simply push it to the back of your mind because it would probably never come to fruition? Yeah, me too. One of my long-held food fantasies has been to taste the crunchy, savoury goodness of vegan popcorn chicken. My FGV nights have been spent tossing and turning, waiting for these mythical balls of compassion to materialise.

And you know what comes next, right? Yep. The wait is over!

The talented people of Fry’s Vegetarian have crossed the final frontier of fast food by producing their new Pops. These golden balls of deliciousness are crunchy, irresistible and everything you could want in a bite-sized, vegan snack.

Fry's Pops are amazing

The chicken popcorn pieces are housed in a super-cute cube box, brightly emblazoned with colourful graphics that somehow make the experience even more exciting. The pieces called for either conventional oven or microwave cooking, but I went with conventional to ensure my snack was as crisp as possible.

I was not disappointed. As a matter of fact, I was the opposite of disappointed. The Pops were crunchy on the outside and succulent on the inside. I liberally sprinkled them with the accompanying fruit chutney flavour sachet and devoured them within about a minute.

Vegan chicken popcorn is a reality

These beauties are set to launch in the UK January 2012. I would suggest clearing out your freezer now to make sure you have enough storage space for your guaranteed new addiction.

  1. I had these for the first time at the weekend and thought they were not very nice. (I baked them in the oven – did you deep fry yours?)
