Mono in Glasgow has always been a special place for me.
It’s been far too long since I set foot in that glorious space. Years, in fact. Pre-COVID. But still, I think about it often. I miss it. Mono isn’t just a café bar or a music venue. It’s a cornerstone. A cultural institution. A big-hearted, fried vegan fish-slinging legend in the middle of Glasgow.

Do you enjoy eating vegan hot dogs? Do you love being in Glasgow?
Here is the news for which you have been waiting!

No Mean Dogs has been around for a little while in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow, but the hot dog joint has just had an overhaul.
The takeaway hot dog bar is so popular, most days they sell out of food completely.
To try and meet demand, the owners have invested time, money, and hard work to expand their preparation and cooking space inside the shop.
They are now able to cook their much loved vegan comfort food for more hungry and appreciative customers.
Let’s take a look at some of the good stuff.
No Mean Dogs also get a lot of rave reviews for their donuts, so make sure you save room for sweets!
You can see the exact location of No Mean Dogs thanks to Google Maps. You can also follow No Mean Dogs on Instagram.
The great vegan march forward continues as Chapter One Coffee Shop in Edinburgh announces that it is set to turn completely plant-based.
In case you are unable to access the above image, the coffee shop wrote:
Dear friends, from 5th June we will stop serving animal products in an effort to be a better business for the people, the planet, and the animals. We will still be serving all your favourites in a plant-based version! Thank you so much for understanding and hope to see you soon!
If you are in Edinburgh, you had better make this West End business your new local for coffee, sandwiches, and baked delicacies. It is a big deal to make this sort of statement with a business and Chapter One deserves all our support.
In extra fabulous news, Chapter One is fully powered by renewable energy. Could you love them more?!
You can follow Chapter One on Instagram and Facebook, while you can see the exact location thanks to Google Maps.
Now, let’s celebrate some of their food photos!

Here is a quick post to alert you to the fact that I was recently a guest on BBC Radio Scotland.
I was approached by a production assistant last week and asked if I would like to participate in an on air discussion about how people view vegans in 2018.

Yay for vegan representations in the media!
For a lot of people, summer means attending beer festivals.
For me, summer means attending vegan beer festivals! My series of Vegan Beer Fest UK events has become synonymous with this time of year and I’m thrilled to be heading back to Scotland next weekend for the third annual Glasgow Vegan Beer Fest.
Run in conjunction with Mono and William Bros, this event is set to be a rollicking Bank Holiday Sunday celebration of beer, cider, food, and karaoke!
Almost 25% of tickets have already been snapped up so book online now if you want a £4 advance ticket (£7 on the door).
We are excited about the food and karaoke, but of course it is all about the beer.
Check out the INCREDIBLE beer list for the Sunday August 5, 2018 event below:

There is a brand new vegan eatery set to open in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Thrive Cafe:Bar is all a bit top secret at the moment ahead of its August 2018 opening, but this is what I have been able to work out from snooping around on social media:
Yes, that is correct. If you are looking for a vegan job in Scotland, Thrive might be the right fit for you.
The new cafe and bar is looking for an assistant manager, supervisors, waiting staff, bar staff, a sous chef, a line chef, commis chefs, and kitchen porters.
You can follow Thrive on Facebook and Instagram, and email team@thrive-edinburgh.co.uk if you are interested in a position with this new eatery.
It has been a long time since I’ve eaten with Hug & Pint in Glasgow and even a longer time since I blogged about them.
I have always been blown away by the inventive and tasty food at this Glaswegian kitchen inside a bar that is above a live music venue, so I felt the need to give them a shout.
The menu is ever-changing and features small bowls and plates perfect for sharing. Order a whole bunch of them and share with friends.
You really need to follow Hug & Pint on Instagram to stay updated with their latest cuisine creations.
You can see the location of the venue online here thanks to Google Maps. The kitchen opens at midday every day.
Now, take a look at some of their latest dishes that caught my eye.
When asked about the most vegan-friendly destination around the UK, I always list Glasgow in my top three. It often makes number one.
The Scottish city has long been a haven for plant-based foodies and there is actually too much choice if you are only visiting for a few days.
If you live there, you will already understand that Glasgow is a world class vegan city.
It might actually be difficult to keep updated with all the latest vegan news. That’s what prompted this blog post. I wanted to list all of the 100% vegan places in Glasgow. Please let me know if I have missed any.
This list doesn’t include the non-vegan places which offer fantastic vegan options, so please use the HappyCow listings to discover those hidden gems and join the Vegan Edinburgh and Glasgow Facebook group if you would like keep informed about all things vegan in that part of the world.
Now, let’s start our vegan tour of Glasgow!
The Flying Duck – junk food kitchen, late night bar, and live music venue that is famous for hosting mini vegan fetes inside!
Falafel To Go – I’ve seen so many photos online showing people lining up for this food, it must be good. This hole in the wall spot is near the corner of Hope and Sauchiehall.

Stereo Cafe Bar – solid comfort food in this legendary live music venue and bar. Tucked away on Renfield Lane, Stereo is one of the finest spots in Glasgow for food, drink and live music. They also host some fab club nights.
Picnic – this deli and cafe on Ingram Street in the Merchant City section of Glasgow is truly a gem of a place. They serve up fresh sandwiches, nutritious bowls, hearty breakfasts, and irresistible cakes and pastries.
The Glasvegan – this comfort food spot in St Enoch Square can only be properly represented by viewing the menu.
Mono Cafe Bar – what can I add when it comes to this legendary Glasgow location? The food is pure decadence and it remains one of the best places in the city to catch live music. Extra curricular activities include the on site record shop and our annual Glasgow Vegan Beer Fest which is hosted here!
Lotus Vegetarian Cuisine – I have never heard people rave as much about a place as people from Glasgow rave about Lotus. If you are in the mood for a very typical Chinese/UK food joint with all sorts of fried and sticky dishes, this is the place for you.
In Bloom – located very close to St Georges Cross subway station, this is a Nirvana-inspired vegan cafe serving tasty-looking food. Yes, as in Kurt Cobain!

The Hug & Pint – maybe my favourite place to eat in the city, The Hug & Pint is a gorgeous vegan kitchen combined with a fabulous beer bar and live music venue. Located between St Georges Cross and Kelvinbridge stations along Great Western Road.
The 78 Bar & Kitchen – with the return of superstar chef VSO to this kitchen, you can now consume some of the best vegan food in the UK at The 78. Top tip: try to grab a table close to the open fire on a chilly day. They get a few of them in Scotland, apparently.

The V & V Cafe – this West End establishment is everything. By that I mean it is a coffee shop, a cafe, a mini grocery store, and a completely wonderful place for vegans to visit.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh6O9oqlfjL/
The Old Hairdresser’s – this isn’t a dining establishment but this music venue and gallery space serves only vegan booze. Situated opposite Stereo.
Serenity Now – another vegan spot on Great Western Road and another name inspired by a pop culture reference. This one takes its name from a famous episode of television sitcom Seinfeld. Those burritos, though!
One of my favourite places to eat (and drink) in Glasgow is The 78.
This restaurant/pub in Finnieston has long been a hot spot for satisfying vegan comfort food and is also well known for its music events.
The menu has always been good but the return of superstar chef VSO (following a stint setting up Harmonium in Edinburgh) means that the food is being elevated a few levels higher.
A new, full menu is being readied for public release very soon but in the meantime, drool over some of these food photos of all the testing and culinary exploration going on in the kitchen.
Glasgow, do you know how good you have got it?!
Follow The 78 on Instagram and stay tuned for more gorgeous food updates.
