New vegan donut café

Just when you thought that Berlin just couldn’t get any better for vegan food, along comes another place to make you drool. And this one is a corker!

Brammibal’s have been selling incredible vegan doughnuts at fairs and through other vegan cafés for about a year now, but finally they’ve achieved their goal of opening a café all of their own. And I’m pleased to say it’s excellent. The café is spacious and relaxing, a great place to spend an hour or so. It feels like it’s a piece of New York City transported across the Atlantic, I’m not quite sure why but that’s the feeling I get (in a good way!).

The headline product is the doughnuts, of course. A wide range of sticky, sweet confections which are well worth travelling for. But it’s not all about the sugar – even though it’s not promoted much, they also have excellent coffee and sandwiches. We had one with grilled BBQ tempeh and portobello mushroom, and another with cashew cheese and smoked “lox”, made from thinly-sliced carrot. (Lox isn’t a word I’d ever heard in Britain, but I recently learned that it’s used in North America to describe smoked salmon. And it surely comes from the German word “lachs”.) They were both magnificent.

You can find out more about Brammibal’s online.

Vegan donut stall comes to London!

Do you want luscious donuts? Not baked donuts that are kinda OK and almost like the real thing, but rather fried donuts with irresistible frostings, glazes and toppings?

London, you need to get friendly with Peanut Butter Bakery.

Lauren runs this baking business out of her home and has just started trading every Saturday at the legendary Boiler House market on Brick Lane.

How good do they look?

Like the Peanut Butter Bakery Facebook page to keep up with the latest news and get along to Brick Lane this weekend to buy a few delicious donuts.

Donuts are life

Facebook can be a tiresome place to hangout.

If you spend a lot of time on the social network, it can feel like you are learning a whole lot of information you really don’t want to know. My friends’ reaction to the latest Star Wars film nearly made me jump ship.

But occasionally the good ol’ FB gives us some truly valuable information. Specifically, where we can buy and eat gorgeous vegan donuts like these.

I saw the above photo posted on Facebook, so I wasted no time in reaching out to the poster to find out more info.

Lisa got back to me super quick with A LOT of details on what she is up to donut-wise. Scotland, you are in luck.

Vegan business closing

This is sad news.

One of the best vegan food providers in the UK is set to cease trading tomorrow (Saturday August 22, 2015). I am terribly saddened to report the end of The Mighty Food Fight.

Hannah and Isabel have decided to pack away their magic donut recipes and shutter up the food truck, as this much-adored Bristol business is wrapping up.

Here is what the food superstars had to say when I asked for comment:

It’s goodbye for now from us and our beloved food truck René! We’ve had an amazing adventure serving the lovely people of Bristol and beyond some tasty Mighty Sub Rolls and many glorious vegan donuts. We’re so grateful to all our loyal Food Fighters and everyone who has supported us, particularly when René was poorly. We’ll miss all of our customers but we hope that we’ve inspired people to seek out the best cruelty-free flavours. Fancy a chance to try a TMFF donut before we close? Come on down to Moor Beer Tap on Days Road, Bristol, between midday and 8pm this Saturday where we’ll be holding our Last Hurrah with vegan beer from Moor, along with two other street food traders from Bristol Eats.

Terrible news for anyone in love with spectacular vegan food.

You really should do whatever it takes to get along to this final trading day for The Mighty Food Fight. Hannah and Isabel will be serving up hundreds of vegan donuts including Boston Cream, Strawberry Daiquiri, Lemon, Lime + Toasted Coconut and many more.

As this final event is run in conjunction with Moor Beer Company, you can also look forward to vegan mac ‘n’ cheese balls drowned in a fig, tomato and Moor stout ketchup.

Don’t make excuses. Get to the event from midday for stunning vegan food. Get all the details on the Facebook event page.

While you are feeding yourself silly, make sure you take the time to thank Hannah and Isabel for everything they have done to raise the profile of vegan food in Bristol. They have made a profound difference.

Green Market

Post by:

This weekend found myself and my little vegan gang at a little festival called the Green Market, a small festival which happens three times a year.

The ‘summer edition’ took place next to the river Spree (in part of the former Berlin border strip, for any other history geeks out there!).

And though it may be small (about 30 stands?) the market has quality over quantity, as in addition to vegan clothing, shoes and accessories, there were tons of delicious things to eat.

Plenty of burger and wrap trucks, an ice-cream stand by Kontor (reviewed previously), and – behind a crowd of excited vegans – a new doughnut company called Brammibals, who are currently seeking crowdfunding for a new shop.

So without further ado, check out the following food photos:

Donuts, dumplings and hot damn

Enough with the torturous posts about divine food half a world away from where the majority of my readers reside. I will stop teasing.

Well, I will stop after this post. I promise.

I have given you some decidedly convincing reasons why you should visit San Diego. The Southern California city is a gorgeous location bursting with attractions that will keep compassionate people on the delirious side of happy. See the vegan drive thru and the vegan market stall as examples.

And there is more.

Moncai Vegan is exactly what I see when I close my eyes at night. It is like the dream I have where the food is irresistible, the service is lovely and there are vegan donuts in a large glass case.
