I’m thrilled to have been asked to join a panel discussion this Thursday February 21, 2019 at the University of Sussex.
So what is it all about?
The Exchange: Can Veganism Save the Planet?
Is a plant-based diet really the answer to saving the world? Or can the environmental impact of industrial farming outweigh the benefits? Can we still consume meat and dairy products in a sustainable way? What should governments and businesses do to promote sustainable living? When should environmental concerns limit individual choice?
Join our panel of speakers as they share their views on food production, sustainable living, individual responsibility, and whether adopting a particular diet is enough to secure our planet’s future. Put your questions to the panel and take part in an evening of lively discussion.
The event will be chaired by Sussex academic Dr Melissa Lazenby and will feature:
Louise Davies, Head of Campaigns, Policy and Research at The Vegan Society
Leo Hickman, Director and editor of Carbon Brief
Sebastien Kaye, undergraduate student at the University of Sussex
Nesta McGregor, Radio 1 Newsbeat reporter
Sean O’Callaghan aka The Fat Gay Vegan, award-winning writer and vegan events organiser
Isabella Tree, author and travel writer
The Exchange from the University of Sussex encourages free expression, lively discussion and the sharing of thoughts and ideas.
Proceeds from this event go to the Sussex Fund.
All event and ticket information (including concessions and event accessibilty) can be found online here. Tickets are selling quickly!
Did you know there is a vegan company called Up Beet Food Company based in Sussex that has started hosting regular supper clubs at a café in Shoreham-by-Sea?
Jenna (pictured below on the right in this pic by Shiv Meaker) also hosts supper clubs in Brighton (her next event is tonight and is completely SOLD OUT!) with 2nd September and 5th October lined up. You can pop over to the Up Beet website to sign up to the mailing list and be the first to know about tickets for these in demand dining events around Sussex.
Up Beet isn’t just about outrageously popular supper clubs in Shoreham and Brighton.
Jenna’s company is also available for catering jobs such as weddings and her website is a fab place to find useful and mouthwatering recipes. You can even hire Jenna for cooking classes anywhere in Sussex!
Here is a super cute vegan food adventure for those living in or visiting the seaside city of Brighton.
At the rear of Brighton station (and sometimes at the front) is a 100% vegan food trailer called CousCups and they are serving up some tasty-sounding takeaway food.
Owner/operator Marc told me all of the packaging they use is compostable which is obviously fabulous. The trailer sells a range of porridges including pesto porridge with toasted pine nuts plus couscous/quinoa salads with homemade seitan and hummus.
You’ll also find smoothies and launching soon (maybe it has already – I’m sometimes slow getting stories up) is a pearl barley dish with sautéed garlic mushrooms, caramelised onion, BBQ seitan, rice paper maple bacon, a cheese sauce core and topped with facon crispies and a piece of southern fried seitan. That sounds OUTRAGEOUS!
Before we check out some photos, be sure to follow CousCups on Instagram and Facebook.
If you have been to any vegan events during the past few years, there is a strong chance you have seen Happy Maki wrapping and selling their much-loved food to throngs of appreciative customers. They always have one of the longest lines at events I’ve seen them at and I’ve never heard a bad word.
People love this stuff!
Now people can love this stuff more regularly at the new Happy Maki shop front situated in The Lanes area of Brighton (next door to famous Boho Gelato).
The doors have only just been flung open but I’m sure there is already no shortage of loyal customers flowing into Happy Maki.
Yay for vegan sushi!
Visit the Happy Maki website for opening times and location. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for upcoming festival appearance news.
