Vegan pop up event in Mexico City

Here’s one for my Mexico City friends.

Gorgeous new vegan bakery Veganería Le Muf  is hosting another spectacular pop up dining event and you need to book tickets now!

This is set to be an afternoon starring a delicious menu of 100% vegan food served in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

Your ticket costs 500 pesos and includes:

  • Two main courses.
  • A dessert
  • Flavoured water of the day or beer plus a mezcalito (a mezcal digestif)

This special event is taking place on Saturday June 29 between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The secret location in Colonia Escandón will be announced when you confirm your booking.

To book, you need to send a direct message to Le Muf via their Instagram or Facebook page. You will then be given instructions on how to make payment via bank deposit.

Would you like to read about the menu?

All food is made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients. The space in which it will take place is part of the experience as each smell, colour, and sound are specially designed for that day. It is a place to share time with people from the vegan community who have a special interest in food.

¡Provecho!

Help a Mexican business flourish

Times are tough for independent vegan businesses and they need a lot of support to get started.

This is no more true than in Mexico City and one very special vegan baking company is about to take the leap into opening a permanent store front.

Le Muf is a small 100% vegan company offering artisan, creative pastries of the highest quality.

The business started three years ago in a home kitchen, baking orders for friends and acquaintances, and eventually transitioned into making food and desserts for events, bazaars, festivals, and coffee shops.

Veganería Le Muf has grown a lot recently and it is time to take the big step and move to a professional space, to have a fixed point of business.

If you can support Le Muf by donating even a few pounds/dollars/pesos, you will be helping to put an independent vegan business on the map.

They need to raise about £1,200 to cover opening costs and have already passed £500 with about a week remaining of the campaign.

If you are interested in claiming a reward, Le Muf has created a range of gorgeous notepads, totes, and stickers. Alongside baking classes and food, these rewards are attached to various donation levels.

How cute is all that merch?!

Support the opening of this fabulous vegan business in Mexico City and be sure to follow them on Instagram.

Vegan press in Mexico

I am thrilled to share news of my collaboration with Time Out Mexico.

The magazine asked me to help with their January vegan issue and I’m pleased to say we were able to promote many independent vegan businesses in the Mexican capital.

The January issue features:

  • the top ten vegan places to eat in Mexico City
  • the top ten places to shop for vegan groceries in Mexico City
  • five reasons why a person should go vegan

If you are not in Mexico City and unable to get your hands on the magazine, you can download a PDF version online here.

I am quite emotional that I have been able to share the vegan message via such a huge platform, especially as it is directly supporting independent vegan business.

Yay for vegan Mexico!

Vegans raising funds for Mexico

One of the most important parts of being a vegan activist is understanding that we shouldn’t limit our acts of compassion to simply caring for non-human animals.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that all we need to do in order to be fabulous is to stop eating animals, raise money for animals, and encourage other people to stop eating animals.

In reality, there is so much more we should be doing to challenge oppression.

If we want to fight oppression, we should also look to redress disadvantage amongst humans.

Yes. We should eat, drink and live like we give a shit. (shameless book plus)

In line with this way of thinking, we use our fabulous karaoke sessions at Vegan Beer Fest UK events to raise money for a charity in Mexico City called Isla Urbana. This charity builds sustainable water catchment systems for households, schools, communities, and businesses in Mexico.

Many, many people live without access to safe water but of course we all understand that clean water is a basic human right, so I feel it is crucial we support the work of Isla Urbana.

We asked the audience and performers at our charioke (charity + karaoke) session to donate whatever coins they had towards our Isla Urbana drive and I’m thrilled to say we raised £180 for the charity.

We will also be collecting at Vegan Beer Fest UK 2018  events in Coventry, Sheffield, and Glasgow. You can book tickets for those events online here.

If you are not able to get along to our events but would like to support the work of Isla Urbana, donate online here and follow the charity on Instagram.

Helping Mexico

As you probably know, I have a strong connection to Mexico City. Some of the people I love most in the world are there and I live in the city for 6 months of each year.

I’ve been deeply worried about the devastating earthquake that affected the people of Mexico City last week and have felt helpless in London with no chance of being on the ground to help.

As a response, I have asked my publisher Nourish Books to help me raise money for a special charity based in Mexico City.

Isla Urbana works hard to install and maintain clean water infrastructure for some of the city’s most vulnerable people. Each water tank and system they install costs money but has the ability to give water security to an entire household and sometimes local schools.

Between Sunday September 24 and Saturday September 30, 2017, Nourish Books will kindly donate £1 to Isla Urbana for every copy of my book ‘Fat Gay Vegan: Eat, Drink and Live Like You Give a Sh!t’ that is pre-ordered via Amazon.

Use this link to pre-order the book: http://tinyurl.com/CDMXwater and please share this post where you can. If you prefer to donate directly to the charity, you can do that here: http://islaurbana.org/english/

100% vegan café in Mexico impresses

I’m currently living in one of the largest cities on the planet and getting from one part of Mexico City to another can take hours. Traffic, congestion, overcrowding and people everywhere means you often have to plan well ahead to get somewhere on time.

The size of the city can be daunting so imagine how fabulous it is having one of the best vegan eateries in the megalopolis less than a ten minute walk from my front door.

Temictli is a friendly café perched on the corner of two incredibly busy streets on the fringes of the trendy Condesa neighbourhood. They serve freshly cooked food ranging from beautifully dressed salads to handmade seitan hot dogs with all the trimmings.

The photos below show a selection of dishes I’ve gobbled up in the few weeks since I first got acquainted with Temictli and its wonderful owners Rosa Linda and Elizabeth.

Follow Temictli on Instagram for more mouthwatering photos and be sure to either dine with them or take advantage of their bike delivery service if you find yourself in Mexico City.
