Best in the UK

Here it is. My ultimate sweeping declaration.

I visited a restaurant a few days ago and it turned out to be the best vegan dining experience I have ever enjoyed in the UK. I am pretty sure I could stretch the ‘best’ label to encompass all of Europe, too.

See the food photos below.

Say hello to Wildebeest in Falmouth, Cornwall.

Wildebeest is a world class dining set up and everything about the restaurant is what I want in a vegan establishment. The menu is exquisite and inventive, yet still familiar and comforting. The wine list is of course 100% vegan and cocktail lovers can choose from mojitos, martinis and Cosmopolitans. The people working in Wildebeest are friendly and the service was second to none. The decor is gorgeous while the entire space is comfortable and charming.

Can you tell I’m in love?

Just wait until you see the food!

Vegan grocery stores

Josh and I are currently traipsing around the southwest of England, enjoying the gorgeous views and eating whatever we can get our hands on.

Thanks to two wonderful vegan grocery stores, we have not gone without snacks for our vegan road trip.

Check them out.

When you visit Exeter, make time to visit Chris at Seasons. This grocery store used to be vegetarian but made the switch to 100% vegan just a few weeks ago. Get all your pantry items, pre-prepared sandwiches, chocolate bars, drinks and more.

It becomes an even more satisfying experience when you realise what a friendly person Chris is and how passionate he is about veganism.

You can visit Seasons online, like them on Facebook and follow them on Instagram. (You can also read this awesome guide to vegan Exeter)

Our road trip continued further south and west to the port city of Plymouth, home to one of the best-stocked vegan grocery stores in the UK. There isn’t a lot that Ethica doesn’t have.

All the vegan chocolate. Vegan ice cream. Frozen food. Pet food. Toiletries. Everything!

The shop is packed with everything from essential groceries to decadent treats and it is truly a must-visit for everyone living in or visiting the southwest.

Visit Ethica on Facebook and follow them on Instagram.

Chilli dog glory

Do you like tasty vegan food?

Yes? Get your sweet self to Oxford for one of the tastiest delights in the entire UK.

Check it out.

What you are looking at in the photo above is the fabulous Veggie Chilli Dog served by The Gardeners Arms in Oxford, a vegetarian pub with some wonderful vegan options. This was close to being the best hot dog I’ve enjoyed in the UK. You MUST try it.

Click here to see the full menu, including plant-based meals such as mushroom pie and Indian thali.

You can like The Gardeners Arms on Facebook.

Cycle and eat

Vegan breakfast in a bicycle shop? You got it!

A massive thank you to Beth who volunteered this lovely guest review. Beth wanted you all to know about a recent food experience in a unique setting.

Check it out and plan a trip to York. Unless you already live there. If that is the case, get busy enjoying what you’ve got!

Take it away, Beth.

Vegan business closing

This is sad news.

One of the best vegan food providers in the UK is set to cease trading tomorrow (Saturday August 22, 2015). I am terribly saddened to report the end of The Mighty Food Fight.

Hannah and Isabel have decided to pack away their magic donut recipes and shutter up the food truck, as this much-adored Bristol business is wrapping up.

Here is what the food superstars had to say when I asked for comment:

It’s goodbye for now from us and our beloved food truck René! We’ve had an amazing adventure serving the lovely people of Bristol and beyond some tasty Mighty Sub Rolls and many glorious vegan donuts. We’re so grateful to all our loyal Food Fighters and everyone who has supported us, particularly when René was poorly. We’ll miss all of our customers but we hope that we’ve inspired people to seek out the best cruelty-free flavours. Fancy a chance to try a TMFF donut before we close? Come on down to Moor Beer Tap on Days Road, Bristol, between midday and 8pm this Saturday where we’ll be holding our Last Hurrah with vegan beer from Moor, along with two other street food traders from Bristol Eats.

Terrible news for anyone in love with spectacular vegan food.

You really should do whatever it takes to get along to this final trading day for The Mighty Food Fight. Hannah and Isabel will be serving up hundreds of vegan donuts including Boston Cream, Strawberry Daiquiri, Lemon, Lime + Toasted Coconut and many more.

As this final event is run in conjunction with Moor Beer Company, you can also look forward to vegan mac ‘n’ cheese balls drowned in a fig, tomato and Moor stout ketchup.

Don’t make excuses. Get to the event from midday for stunning vegan food. Get all the details on the Facebook event page.

While you are feeding yourself silly, make sure you take the time to thank Hannah and Isabel for everything they have done to raise the profile of vegan food in Bristol. They have made a profound difference.

Glasgow impresses again

Honestly, you could eat out every day and night of the week in Glasgow and you wouldn’t run out of vegan options.

I’ve written about The 78 in the past, but check out the latest tasty dishes my group devoured during our recent stop. This fabulous pub/restaurant is definitely something you want to experience.

Screaming Carrot

Every town should have a Screaming Carrot.

My recent stop in Nottingham opened my eyes to some marvellous things, not least a workers’ co-op vegan bakery and grocery store named The Screaming Carrot.

Tucked away down a small road in a quiet suburb, The Screaming Carrot is a one-stop shop for all your vegan pantry needs and sweet treats.

Vegan comfort

I’ve found the best vegan nachos in Europe. Tell everyone.

The Auld Hoose is a pub in Edinburgh with a very impressive vegan menu nestled within its non-vegan offerings. You think you’ve had awesome vegan comfort food? Take a look at what our group ordered on a rainy Scottish night, including the biggest and best nachos I’ver ever been served in Europe.
