Vegan tattoo in London

Have you ever wanted a tattoo but can’t reconcile it with your vegan belief system and lifestyle?

Well, you don’t need to put off your penchant for skin art any longer in London. Get busy knowing Maury Decay.

Maury is an artist at Santo Cuervo Studio in Stoke Newington, a loudly and proudly all vegan tattoo studio. Every single thing they use from paper to ink to aftercare is completely vegan and they are fucking proud of the fact.

You should follow Maury on Facebook and Instagram.

Also…

Maury is raising funds to be able to afford to host a booth at the upcoming HUGE Drag World UK convention taking place in London this August. The costs involved are monumental and Maury needs to raise £1000 in order to be at the show.

£300 of the £1000 target has already been met, so Maury needs the vegan community to get behind this project to make the dream of appearing at Drag World UK a reality.

Once at the show Maury will be donating 50% of takings to London Friend, a charity that supports the health and mental wellbeing of the London LGBTQ+ community.

Click here to donate to this worthwhile campaign now. Every little bit counts and Maury will be extremely grateful if you can help out.

If you are not in the position to donate to this project, please share this campaign far and wide. A gay vegan tattoo artist deserves all the help we can offer.

Glorious London venue for vegan events

If you are looking for a gorgeous new venue in London that only supports vegan events, 10 Cable St is for you.

10 Cable St is a new vegan venue in London E1. A former pub known as The Horns and Horseshoe, this was the first public house in London to ban segregation. It started welcoming customers from all ethnic minorities in 1949.

It has been lovingly restored, keeping many of the original features while creating a light, bright, airy and tranquil space. They hosts a wide range of workshops, classes, supper clubs and events based around the themes of food, design and wellbeing and also invite others who shares this vision to collaborate or to host their own events. Yes, get in touch with 10 Cable St if you are a vegan chef or event planner.

I asked founder Moko what the philosophy was behind opening a vegan events space in central London. Here is what I was told:

At 10 Cable St, we think that it’s important to consider the wider impact of the things we do on a daily basis. From the food we eat, to the things that we buy and the products we use, minimising the impact on our bodies and the planet is always at the forefront of our minds. We aim to use only natural, plant-based ingredients in the dishes that we serve and, where we can, we source locally and use organic products. This way, we know where our food has come from and that the impact of getting it from ground to plate has been minimal.

If you want to ask about hosting your own vegan event in this beautiful space, get in touch with Moko via the 10 Cable St website.

If you are interested in keeping updated with all the wonderful events taking place at 10 Cable St, follow the venue on Facebook and Instagram.

Check it out.

OK, so grilled vegan cheese sandwiches are fabulous in their own right but look at all of those extras you can add. Bacon bits! Jackfruit! Seitan!

Of course you would also have to make room for a slice of the baked cheese cake.

Follow Joey’s Kitchen on Instagram and let me know if you get your hands on a sandwich this weekend.

Tibits gets a new location

One of London’s top spots when it comes to vegan-friendly eating in a non-vegan spot is tibits.

This buffet-style eatery just off Regent Street has long been a hub for plant-based eaters. This might have something to do with most of their food being suitable for vegans, including delights such as sticky toffee pudding and a huge range of salads and pastas.

This month sees the opening of a second London version of tibits (if we don’t count the west London version that came and went very quickly years ago).

Fans of the serve-yourself restaurant can know fill up on their vegan options near the Tate Modern on the south side of the Thames.

The maps above shows the new location set to open this month (June 2017).

You can see all of the tibits locations over on their website, including the multiple restaurants spread around Switzerland.

Are you excited about another tibits?

Follow tibits on Facebook to stay updated on the opening.

Ten vegan street food vendors you need to know

London. You are overrun with vegan street food.

With so many choices, it’s a difficult task to know which food business to prioritise.

That’s why I’m here right now to tell you about the following ten vegan street food businesses in the UK capital that you shouldn’t miss.

Let’s get into it.

Over the past few weeks, I have been swamped with messages from people who adore the food of Lazy Boy Kitchen. Everyone wants me to know about this incredible vegan comfort food and I can’t wait to get some in my grubby fat hands.

Always one of the most popular vendors when they trade at my events, Rupert’s Street can’t be ignored due to their gloriously coloured van and tasty, nutritious food offerings.

Club Mexicana are nothing short of vegan street food superstars. The consistently turn out outstanding and decadent dishes. Read about their new residency here.

You can’t write about vegan street food in London without mentioning Temple of Seitan. Even though they now have a permanent shop, they are still ruling every market and event they can make it to.

Always a winner at Hackney Downs Vegan Market, the legendary pie and mash heroes Young Vegans are taking London by storm with food people just can’t get enough of.

With such a gorgeous truck and the prettiest food around, Amrutha has been making a name for itself with mouthwatering food on the go.

Cafe SoVegan can’t get enough praise from some people. After their appearances at Hackney Downs Vegan Market, my inbox is always jam packed with emails wanting to celebrate this gorgeous food business.

I can’t keep up with all of the locations and appearances by Big V London. Their decadent burgers are always a smash hit no matter where they show up and the photos on their account are beyond drool-worthy.

The best vegan donuts in London are from Peanut Butter Bakery. This is not open for debate. They have changed the landscape of how we consume dough forever and have upped the game to stratospheric heights. No one can touch them.

What do you think? Are you happy with this list of London’s finest? Who would you add?

Queen Picnic now trading in London

I thought you all needed to know that Queen Picnic is up and running at the Boiler House on Brick Lane every Saturday and Sunday.

What the hell is Queen Picnic I hear you shriek?

Queen Picnic is a food stand selling vegan sandwiches with fillings they make themselves, such as ‘smoked salmon’ carrot, spicy ‘beef’ seitan, jackfruit ‘bacon’ and chickpea of the sea salad. They told me they are continually developing their recipes all the time as they want to make the best tasting sandwiches around.

Queen Picnic is a two-woman 100% vegan workforce and they’re the first to say they are pretty new to the food stall game. But as I have discovered during my years as a prolific food inspector, sometimes the people with not much experience but a lot of enthusiasm can get it very correct.

Check out some of what is happening at Queen Picnic.
