Essential Vegan cafe

London, get ready for some of the best vegan food you have ever eaten. Seriously.

As the sad news filters around town of pop up cafe LOTUS Cucina Vegan vacating its Portobello Road premises, consolatory information about its replacement is spreading even faster.

Vanessa Almeida of Essential Vegan is bringing her outstanding savoury cuisine and cake delights to 297 Portobello Road for (what is now) an 8 week long engagement.

If you know of Vanessa and Essential Vegan, you will be aware of just how irresistible her food is and what an untouchable reputation it has in the capital. The supper club Vanessa cooked for my guests was peerless and her cake stand on Brick Lane every Saturday is legendary.

Now West London gets to eat like a champion six days of the week starting Tuesday September 2nd, 2014 as the Essential Vegan Pop-up Cafe sets up shop in the Portobello Juice Cafe between Tuesday and Sundays, 9am – 5pm.

Get excited for this menu.

Cheap vegan hot dogs

Here is some sad news for vegan London and some happy news for vegan London.

The gorgeous pop up cafe LOTUS Cucina Vegan is set to close on Portobello Road this weekend. Marta, the person behind the gorgeous vegan snacks at LOTUS, is packing up and moving on to other adventures.

That’s the sad news out of the way. Want the happy news?

As a thank you to her loyal customers, Marta is celebrating her final weekend on Portobello Road by offering delicious vegan hot dogs for just £2.50 and cups of fruity açaí sorbet for £2.50. That’s a whole lot of tasty plant-based eating for just a fiver.

Get along to 297 Portobello Road (just a 4 minute walk from Ladbroke Grove Underground station) this Saturday and Sunday for inexpensive vegan food and say farewell to Marta.

If you see me down there, please don’t disturb. I will be busy eating my way through multiple vegan hot dogs.

(Sat/Sun refers to 30/31 August, 2014)

Raw vegan in Chelsea

It could come as a surprise to many readers, but I very much enjoy quality raw vegan food. I’m not just talking about the fruit salad I force myself to eat every now and then but well-executed raw cuisine. I’m pleased to say I have found a provider of such food in London.

Eat in King’s Cross

Do you live, work or travel in the King’s Cross area? If you said yes, start licking your lips.

Club Mexicana is a new 100% vegan street food endeavour that is currently popping up every Wednesday as part of the Kerb market on Granary Square just a short stroll from King’s Cross station. You might recall the stall cut its chops as a pop up venture in the Black Cat Cafe across several Saturday nights a few months back.

Check out the photos below to be impressed by the stunning taco, tortilla chips and soup tray on offer from the market stall. The fillings rotate week to week but you will always find a combination of either BBQ pulled jackfruit, beer-marinated seitan, smokey black beans & potatoes and tequila drunken black beans.

How fab does it look?

So long

Another UK vegan restaurant bows out.

A tweet from Cooking The Vegan Books yesterday alerted me to the fact that one of my favourite places in the UK was closing. As soon as I was informed, I raced to the Dandelion & Burdock website to confirm with my own eyes and was met with the following statement:

Hummus Bros love

I was totally blown away by the fabulous people who came along to my pop up vegan event in Clerkenwell last night.

Everyone was super friendly and chatty. That could have possibly had something to do with the mass amounts of Asparagasm beer being guzzled in between tasty bowls of savoury food served by Hummus Bros.

Kamps it up

I jogged today. Not for the sake of exercise, but to get to a bakery selling vegan breads and pastries.

The fabulous @Vegan_Hausfrau reached out to me today on Twitter to alert me to the following Facebook update by Kamps, the German bakery chain with two locations in London.

Why is all the fun, cheap vegan food everywhere but West London? It isn’t!

I recently heard rumblings of a pop up cafe on Portobello Road and wasted little time in getting over there to check it out.
