So Many Vegan Groceries in Romania

I am currently I’m Brasov, Romania.

People told me I would have a difficult time as a vegan and while there aren’t any completely vegan restaurants, I haven’t struggled at all really.

Yesterday I took a stroll through the Carrefour supermarket and was blown away by the amazing selection of vegan groceries. it was far beyond what I expected to see.

Huge fridges of vegan cheese, so many vegan milks, and a seemingly endless selection of plant based products. My head was swimming!

The vegan sandwich meats had an enormous section. As did the milks. So many cookies and snacks. There was vegan ice cream. Too many groceries.

Most of these vegan products exist because of the religious and cultural fasting that many people take part in throughout the year. I am not an expert on the topic but it appears this means going without animal derived foods for periods of time. I even ate in a non-vegan restaurant from their fasting menu and picked up baked goods from a bakery chain with clearly labeled items made for fasting.

Brasov in Romania is a beautiful city with spectacular scenery of mountains and forests on the doorstep. Add all of this vegan food into the mix and you have yourself a fabulous destination.
